I think one major hurdle is the cost but to be economical you could just scan in the parts that were specialized. people seem to forget that we already have about 80% of the original unaltered trilogy in HD.
I just finished downloading the whole 1997 gkar trilogy. I have been looking for these forever.
I also downloaded the flunk version of A New Hope.
Does anyone know how the TB versions stack up against these?
Those are the only known versions of the 1997 editions circulating the internet correct?

Also, I recently learned that there is many more of those zoomed in cockpit shots, so I might try and do those too.

if so one thing i'd like to see is some of the laser blasts on the hoth battle rotoscoped in. alot of the laser blasts don't look red any more in the 2004 editions. they look more white/yellow and are hard to see with the hoth snowy backgrounds

i agree with bilditup1. the sabers changing part of the way through kind of sticks out to me. I respect your decision and for people who don't like it i guess there is always v1 for them :-D

love the latest clip. i noticed that obi wans saber turns from a rather vibrant blue to a more lighter blue. also vaders saber has a thick glow about it in the beginning and at times the glow isn't as present.
did you use different sources for the sabers at different times?
people put in alot of time and hard work on these projects for free. I think they welcome suggestions but refering to their blood and sweat as 'little more than nothing' is worse than looking a gift horse in the mouth.

another thing i noticed is that when ben is talking to luke the white light around him has more flicker than in the gout. it's like little white blobs traveling around his shape. Does any HD source (like the 97 editions) not have this that you could use?
(the white blobs may be in the gout too but they seem to be less noticable.)

is ROTJ complete? are you just waiting for us to find the glitch? Lol..that's tough love if so. Also did you consider using wookieegroomers HD rips? Is wookieegroomers more or less detailed than your source? I may have to fire up the work print again and dust off my eye balls ;-)
That DS explosion is a HUGE improvement harmy...and i thought the first was mind blowing.
Also harmy on the new sky and dunes with c3po the sky looks really blue especially compared with the other shots in that scene. I guess what i'm trying to say is I thought the old shot of that fit in better to me.

i've finished watching the work print and it is amazing. here are some suggestions if you need them :-)
1. the new colors don't stick out to me if they're consistent. At the ewok camp at night when c3po and r2d2 are telling the story if you look in the background at the night air it alters from dark blue to dark green where as in the gout I think it just stays one color.
2. at 1:35:34 it looks like the endor moon is way too bright and not green enough
3. when the emperor electricutes luke and is talking his face has sort of a warm pallete (more red tinted)where in all other versions and earlier in the work print his face looked more cold tinted (white/light blue).
4. at 1:53:13 and 1:53:44 ackbar is way too red. Where as in the rest of the work print he is sort of a dark brown/red. also when the guy says "sir, we've lost our rear deflector shields" his skin and the skin of the people sitting around him looks a little too pink.
5. the sky looks different at 1:58:56 which again could just be because the workprint is brighter
6. in some shots the glow on lukes saber looks a little wide to me.
7. at 1:52:50 landos lips look a little too pink but that could be due to the lighting

I am half way through the work print. at about 1:04:22
I've noticed a few color differences between the gout and workprint. However they are really minor and you wouldn't notice them unless you had the gout on the same screen ;-). and even between official versions of ROTJ there were minor color differences.
I can point them out if you like but it really doesn't effect my experience of this masterpiece.
however i did notice that at 53:51 when the rebel group first lands on endor that the sky is completely different in the gout. either that or it's just much brighter in the workprint
that is very minor though.

I haven't had a chance to watch this all the way through yet but from just skimming it here are two things
1. I thought admiral ackbar seemed too red..almost like an apple during the battle at endor. When he said "we've got to give those fighters more time. concentrate all your fire power on that super star destroyer" he looked really red. I may be mistaken but in the gout i think he looks more dark brown than red. also some of the skin tones in the space battle at endor look a little too red. i'll let you know specific shots after i watch the whole thing.
2. I thought lukes saber during the duel looked too wide. But if that's how it is in the gout then keep it that way. To tell you the truth the sabers in the 04 version didn't bother me that much. (I know...i know)
I'm going to watch it all the way through and try to give as much help as possible

lukes and hans heads keep going in and out of focus.
it's most noticable on lukes eyes in that shot
it may not be fixable.
here's one that i would like to see but it's not a big deal.
in the end ceremony it looked like to me that the faces of luke and han when they come into the temple and walk up the isle are hard to focus on probably due to the HD source you used. It could be due to a little dvnr smearing i'm not sure. Are there other HD sources where their faces aren't as blurred?

I think it looks fine harmy. You're not going to be able to please everyone. and the cold hard fact is the footage just doesn't exist in decent quality similar to the sy snootles segment.
I mean what are we expecting here? Harmy to recreate jabba the puppet and film the scene again? ;-)

that looks even better harmy. I doubt anyone would notice if you had put it in that way and not told anyone.
after all they didn't notice the chewey reverse shot in the ROTJ theatrical reconstruction.
by the way how are you going to handle the explosion of the Death star? Upscaled gout or rotoscoping? I'm sure there's something in the 2004 edition that can be used.

If you sharpened dark_jedis v3 and just used the whole shot would that help? all though the reverse shot of chewie is not that big of a deal to me.
