STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time
I added/enhanced two of the Visual Comparison shots. I added another hand/hoof shot and the disappearing, reappearing gun trick in the Death Star Control Room.

I believe that all changes other than that between the xvid, DVD-5, and DVD-9 are just improvements or fixes missed the first time around. Unless I missed something else, which is likely.

doubleofive - Is there any chance of putting a shot of the initial Adywan Ponda Baba 'hoof' arm from the XVID up for me here? Seeing those shots above sure makes me wish we had a glimpse of it in the altered shot AS WELL... Thanks.

p.s. - Your finished 'Visual Comparisons' turned out great!

I really only came up with the concept and first draft, Adywan did all the final screenshotting. I'm not sure if I can screenshot xvid's, but I definitely can't right now because I'm at work. If Ady is too busy to show the xvid changes, I can do that tonight maybe.

Someday I'd like to see all the changes to some scenes from GOUT to 97 to 2004 to Revisited. I don't have GOUT or my 97 VHS's, so I wouldn't be able to do it. Just the major changes, you know?

I'm playing with the pictures of changes, courtesy of Adywan and doubleofive, and setting them to music via PhotoDVD. I originally set it to Enya's best-of album [title escapes me], mainly because it was on my hard drive and I hadn't listened to it in years. Since my wife and friends think it's all sorts of heretical from almost every viewpoint, I may leave the soundtrack as it is.

The question occurs, though, of what TV format is most useful: 16x9 or 4x3. The comparison pictures are almost 4x3, making that natural, and I disabled all animation to keep the pictures as much in view as possible (loss only to overscan).

Would it be preferable to set the format to widescreen and then re-enable the horizontal animation? The picture would slowly drift from side to side for its five seconds' viewing instead of remaining stationary and filling almost all of the 4x3 screen.

(Having only a 4x3 TV, it's an academic question to me but I am curious about others' thoughts.)

A good question, worthy of discussion. I'm torn. Having an 16:9 TV, I tend to lean towards the widescreen, but the pictures would be too small scaled down from the 16:9 image on a 4:3 screen.

http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/9200/swrvisualdvdce2.jpg

Since I learned from some other movie that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, you should go with 4:3, no animation. Or heck, what is preventing you from making both? You must do what you feel is right, of course.

As for Enya... An interesting choice, to say the least.

That's exactly what's happening. It used to send a notification for every reply, but then some people requested that it only send one notification until you view the thread.

I'll add a user setting so that you can choose how you want to be notified.

I thought that also. I can see where they would be coming from, but I never know what to expect; whether I missed one person asking when the DVD-9 will come out or two pages of arguments about people's arms on floors.

I know there's a more appropriate forum for this question, I just wanted to see if it's just me before I go to the mods with it.

(Sorry --- neat to see a picture I've never seen before!)

I was going to say pretty much what Matt here said. The best part is that they had no idea what they were getting into at this point... "Yeah sure, we'll take publicity stills for this cheap movie. No one's ever going to see them anyway!"

You know those threads that goes "was the Empire really evil?", that tries to paint the rebellion as bad guys? Those really bugs me.

Anyway, one of their arguments is that in such a widspread galaxy, it is still only humans that aid the Rebellion. Not until ROTJ do we se any alien members at all (besides Chewbacca).

Obviously, the real reason was effects and coustume limitations, but they try to paint the rebellion as rascists. My point is that, with the Rebellion growing in strenght after the massacre of Alderaan, perhaps we should se an alien or two among the rebels?

Unless this is too hard to do, of course, but it would be nice to undermine those kinds of threads further.

Which is why we should add Jar Jar to the Hoth battles.

But seriously, who's to say that the Rebellion we follow is the entire group and not just the human cell? Who runs a rebellion with only one group of people at one base? The leaders/organizers may be human, and that's why we follow that particular group around. When they meet up in RotJ to stage one final offensive is when we see other species, as if all of the separate cells that have been working together remotely are now together.

Not the best put together argument, but there it is.

The DVD-9 isn't out yet right? This is something different?

"Purist" is something Ady threw together to make the few of us (not me) who were upset about adding music from the other movies in.

It also serves as a distraction until Ady can get the DVD-9 done.

'Purist' version - brilliant: I didnt log in yesterday so I missed that one!
Much better than the crappy 'Doctor Who vs Cylons' gag on SFX!
:)

But the Purist version thing was posted TODAY. His big April Fools Joke was on the Empire thread where he said he wasn't going to do Empire. I think this one is real.

But can we trust anything Ady says anymore?

Or me for that matter?

The "PURIST" version is a really good idea. I don't think I need it, but it's nice for others to have the option.

So, can we see the discarded version of the cover? I'm interested to see your painting skills.

Bobo, you want to explain why Vader is attacking the Wendy's girl? Nice job, BTW.

I wish I could say that I was in on it the whole time, but I seriously was freaking out yesterday morning. I was serious about the heart attack thing. But since I was already talking to Ady about the IV screenshot comparisons, I figured I'd ask.

I did all of the "Noo!" and "notes" myself. I apologize for what I put you through, but I tried to make each post more questionable than the last, ending with the obvious "Ewoks everywhere!"

I said I couldn't take on the project earlier, and I was serious. Adywan is the only person who can take it upon himself to do something of this magnitude. He is also the one who started the joke, so don't blame it on me, I was the one trying to bring you all back down!

We brought a couple lurkers in, so why don't you stick around guys? Apparently we're not all business around here, unless you're talking about arms being cut off. I suppose we'll get to that later...

EDIT: I've been wanting to make an impression on this board, but now I think I'm infamous... I'm a nice guy, honestly!

It's not a joke, he's really burnt out. Why don't people believe him?!

I'm still going through his notes. Very interesting stuff here, but I think I can do it.

EDIT: I need to have Adywan change the first post so that people know it's not canceled, merely re-revisited.

PS I understand the feeling if you really drop the project. And Star Wars Revisited has reinitialized my inner uberfan. That "noooooooo" kinda threw a bucket of water on the fire for a while.... Thanks for that.

Welcome out of the woodwork DarthSmokey!

I wasn't so sure about the "Noooo" either, but it was in Ady's notes! There were some other strange things, I'll have to post them in a bit...

Flickr won't let me show more than 200 uploaded pictures at at time, meaning that I can't have all of the Visual Comparison up at once.

Picasa Web fixes all of my problems. Thanks Google!

Star Wars Revisited Visual Comparison Part 1
Star Wars Revisited Visual Comparison Part 2

*SPOILER WARNING* This shows every change, including the location of the Lucas cameo, and a before unnoticed Adywan cameo (and I'm not talking about the arm in the cantina). If you want to be surprised by any of the visual changes, don't watch it until after you've seen the whole thing.

Please, let this be a joke. All six movies must be re-done by the same person, to give them a similar fee.

We can't demand him to do anything. He volunteered to stay on as a creative consultant, he would tell us what to do, and we would have to figure out how and do it.

I got burnt out just doing storyboards of the changes that should be made in the first 5 minutes of ESB. ANH would have killed lesser men.

Dang it HotRod, I would have really freaked out too.

Of course, if he is serious, if he'll give me his copy of Premiere, I'll take over.

;-)

I don't use premier, i use After effects & Sony Vegas. Luckily it's only really the Emperor that has had some work done to it so there wouldn't be much to pass on apart from all my notes about what i was going to change/ fix. Whoever takes over then i would want them to stick to my original vision so i would probably still stay onboard but only as a consultant.

Honestly, I wouldn't be able to do it. Maybe somebody with some fan editing experience, I'd just get the project and put it off until I give up, just like I did all of my overly-ambitious projects in school.

I'd be willing to do what I could to help, but I don't want to take over.

That thankyou was to both ron2112 and doubleofive.

Just a thought for doubleofive and Adywan - Could you perhaps add comparison shots of any changes from the initial XVID version compared to the final DVD versions? - Such as the change from 'Ponda Baba's' cut arm to his partner's one for instance.

I have come round to the idea of this particular change, but as Ben seems to take TWO swipes at these characters, it sure would have been nice to get even a glimpse of Ponda Baba's orange clad limb too...

I'm sure Ady can do that. I don't remember what all else changed. I liked the Ponda flipper, but understand that it can't really hold a gun, and it makes more sense to be the doctor's arm.

So Ady, where is your flipper model now? Do you have it enshrined somewhere? You know, you could auction it off or give it away so we could make our own shrine...

In all seriousness, did you at least put the shot of the flipper on the deleted scenes of the DVD-9?
