Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Fan Edit Ideas thread...
Time

I have a clear edit that I’d like to make when the blu ray is released. It involves the last shot of Cassian and Jyn, as the explosion reaches them in their last moments. Cassians eyes open just a couple MOMENTS before it goes all white. This has bugged me ever since and I cannot unsee it. I think some creative music editing and cross fading of the video can solve this issue. But I will make sure to add this to my list of wanted edits.

Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread
Time

Just saw Rogue One for a second time. Found myself enjoying the first act a lot more since I knew the plot better this time around. But my theater experience was awful. I was right next to like four 11 year old girls, and they could not stop yapping. Each girl on the end was completely turned away from the screen, as they whispered and giggled. Finally a man in front of them told them to shut up. That was very nice indeed ahaha. But THEN, two other little kids pulled out lightup lightsabers in the god damn theater! It was very annyoing. Never going to the mall theater again.

Also wanted to add two more thoughts:

-I was pretty dissapointed with the score but the track titled “Your Father would be Proud” which accompanies Jyn and Cassians death is BEAUTIFUL!
-After seeing Darth Vader’s final scene a second time, it might just be in my top 3 Star Wars moments of all time. Takes my breath away every time. Easily the best scene of the entire movie for me.

Ranking the Star Wars films
Time

Ranking the theatrical releases of each film:

The Empire Strikes Back: 10/10
STAR WARS: 10/10
The Force Awakens 9/10
Rogue One: 8.5/10
Return of the Jedi 8/10
Revenge of the Sit: 7/10
The Phantom Menace: 5/10
Attack of the Clones: 3/10

When it comes to comparing The Force Awakens and Rogue One, it comes down to the characters. Rogue One has superior action and a more original story but Force Awakens has such endearing characters. Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren are just amazing characters who I fell in love with and learned a surprisingly amount about (Rey and Finn, specifically). In Rogue One, I found Cassian and K2SO to be the only characters who could even compete with what Force Awakens gave me. I know a lot of people disliked Cassian, but I really appreciated his arc. Overall, I am VERY satisfied with what Disney has done so far. I will be there opening night for episode 8 with much excitement 😃

Star Wars Prequel Trilogy (Anti-Cheese Edit) (Released)
Time

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think these edits are near the quality of other options avaible. It’s not even that it’s a bad edit. It is done relatively well, with great redubs and smart cuts. It really has no problems and truly does improve upon the commercial blu-rays that someone might view instead. It’s just a little frustrating to see edits like these get so much more spotlight than other fanedits that I feel are far superior. I really respect people like the Collider crew and it makes me so angry to see them rave about such mediocre edits. If only I could show them Hal9000’s trilogy with Adywans A New Hope Revisited. Edits like these do so much more. Like the following:

-Rescore scenes
-Masterfully reinsert entire subplots
-Restructure a films story
-Redefine how we view characters
-Brand new special effects
-Attempt to modify the tone of the film

These type of edits have clear goals, and attempt to achieve them as best as possible. And it takes these hardworking people YEARS of work. YEARS! After they finish, they are left with an amazing finished product that deserves to be shown to all Star Wars fans. That is precisely the reason that these type of YouTube edits frustrate the hell out of a fan like myself.

I apologize for the rant.

For me I think not having a crawl was good. It established that this was not and “episode” movie, but something different, yet still Star Wars. The beginning did need some work though. Something felt missing from the beginning. Instead I think the title card could be improved and I would definitely change the music that goes along with it. Or maybe even add it to the beginning after “A long time ago…” and then jump right into the movie.

I would also change the constant jumping from planet to planet in the beginning, removing the planet titles with it. The scene with Cassian right after the title card at the city between two asteroids I think can be removed, it doesn’t really add anything to his character and it makes him seem like a really bad guy. I understand that they are trying to get across the fact that in a war there is a lot of grey area and sometimes you have to do bad things for the greater good, but I feel that shooting a man in the back is just taking things a bit too far. It makes it hard for the audience to believe that he is a good guy and makes the scene where he decides not to shoot Galen unbelievable.

I think merging a lot of scenes in the movie especially in the beginning would make the movie flow better. Everything leading up to Yavin seemed kind of disorienting and messy to me.

I would definitely cut the mind reading monster from the movie, and much of Saw as well. I would leave him to be a bit more mysterious. I also didn’t like the voice that Forest Witicker used, it seemed over the top to me, so cutting a lot of his lines would help. Especially the “Save the Rebellion, save the dream” line. If maybe there was a way to restore his blue eyes, that would be kinda neat to see.

As awesome as it was to see Mustafar and Vader in the bacta tank, I thought the conversation between Krenic and Vader was unnecessary, and I’m not sure if I like the force choke pun. Also possibly pitch shifting Vader’s voice to sound more like ANH Vader would be nice if left in. I think the only time I personally would show Vader is the final scene.

The flashback on Coruscant, the R2 and 3p0, and the Ponda Boba and Evazan cameos were not needed as well. As much as I liked Baze and Chirrut characters I think their intro could be toned down a bit. Finally I would change Cassians decision to not shoot Galen and instead just have him get distracted by seeing Jyn on the platform.

After watching it a few more times I may have more cuts.

Just my 2 cents

Very intersting points. I also noticed that Vaders voice was a little off in his scene with Krennic. It sounded kind of weak. But Vader being a badass (choking someone) and a smartass (making a pun while doing it) at the same time, was awesome for myself.

K2SO’s death scene > Han Solo death scene.

That shouldnt be but it is.

Because it’s Han Solo, I think his death automatically gets a huge advantage. I love the character to death and to see him portrayed so well in Force Awakens by Ford again, only to be killed off by some brat, was very depressing. K2SO’s death was really emotional for me and I thought it was really well done but you simply cannot compete with Han Solo. At least for myself.

Very tempted to make an edit where this replaces Revenge of the Sith as the new Episode III. Following standalone films which fit the mold can be used to make Episode I and II but this definitely feels more like a saga movie when you think about it.

My edit would have:
. A new title
. An added crawl
. Removal of the planet titles
. Minor editing on the opening act since it was quite messy
. Also any small nitpicks I find when watching back again

I hope I don’t CHOKE in my aspirations 😉

I don’t think think you will because I quite agree with a lot your points 😉. I still like it being Rogue One, but a new crawl and removal of the title card would be amazing.

The title card looked AWFUL.

Just got back and… VADER!!!

I could have so many more thoughts to give when I’m calmer but right now I just gotta say that the last scene with Vader had me in pure ecstasy. It was just incredible. I don’t give a shit that it was fan service. What’s wrong with Lucasfilm serving me up a scene of Vader in his prime whooping Rebel ass?

More thoughts will come later, but that was hands down one of the best Star Wars scenes for me of all time.

Good news is…I will be applying for a job at Regal Cinema soon (closest theatre). I’v heard wonderful things about working at movie theatres and am hopefully gonna get hired. I have a 4.0, and do a ton of community service, so I think my chances are good.

Worked at a number of movie theaters in my younger days and had a blast. Best of luck to you.

Thanks!

Though my main focus is on academics currently, I also have a job as a youth basketball ref. In addition to a difficult set of advanced classes at my high school, I have a job that, well, Short story put… I hate. A lot. It’s stressful and makes me feel emotionally drained by the end of the night. Being yelled at by an entire crowd of crazy parents, crazy scorekeepers, and crazy coaches is NOT fun.

I’m just very happy about this because reffing has made me feel like absolute shit this entire past year that I’v done it.
