A lot has changed since Star Wars Revisited was released 10 years ago. What is the plan for distribution?

It will be an 8gb(approx) 720p mkv file at first, most probably available through usenet and direct download links. Torrents will most likely crop up not long after. The 25GB bluray and DVD will follow later in the year once i have completed the special features, which i haven’t started yet because i have been concentrating on getting the edit out of the way first

why 25gb why not the full 50gb.

Because dual-layer discs are more expensive and not as readily available/accessible to most people. Also at 720p it’s not likely to make much of a difference in picture quality.

but isn’t the quality going to suffer for it.

No. Not even a little bit.

no compression then great

All commercial 50 gb blu-ray’s are compressed video files.

The only other musical I really love is Singin’ in the Rain. So I guess I mostly like musicals about the movie industry.

Maybe it’s just easier for me to digest the inherent unreal quality of musicals when there’s a meta element involved.

This helped when watching La La Land. It also didn’t have nearly as much singing as some musicals where literally every piece of dialogue is sung. La La Land just has amazingly cinematic, romantic and purely magical musical numbers sprinkled throughout that visualize the feelings and emotions of the characters. That’s why I’m able to appreciate the movie so much. I am surprised however that “Audition” is the song nominated by the oscars, but that “City of Stars” was the song nominated by the Golden Globes. I gotta agree with the Golden Globes for once actually haha.

If you mean special features, by seeing how you did revisited then that would be nothing short of incredible.

Tweaked a bit previous settings; lowered green and saturation a bit, increased gamma and contrast; top WOWOW, bottom WOWOW 2017ReGrade2:

Don’t want to push too much, because I’d like to leave some details in the shadows, and avoid black crush/white clipping as much as possible.

Okay…I’m trying to adjust my colors as well, and although I can’t count on my monitor to give me accurate colors, I think this is close…albeit, I know I have the colors much more saturated then Dre’s here:

Other than the colors being more saturated, am I close to how these settings should look? I ask again, because I can’t trust my own monitor to give me a proper look.

I actually really dig the colors here.

I am about to see La La Land for the second time in an hour. I am over the moon about seeing this again 😃

Oh my…it was beyond extraordinary a second time around. It’s utter charm and beauty have now dethroned Arrival as my favorite film of the year. Perhaps the past two years. The chemistry is so good and Gosling’s performance really stood out the second time.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Fan Edit Ideas thread...

I thought that was one of the things Rogue One did the best, honestly.

It really amplified the meaning of “hope” at the end of the movie and into ANH, as that scene demonstrated how jaded and un-unified the “Rebel Alliance” had become prior to the Death Star plans being stolen and Luke Skywalker coming into the picture. Idk, it was one of the things this movie did to make you appreciate the heroes and events of the OT more; how the universe at large - outside of Luke, Leia and Han’s personal bubbles and character arcs - was affected and influenced by the actions of the OT heroes. We knew the Rebel Alliance was losing before, but Rogue One showed how the Empire’s consistent dominance over them progressively broke their collective strength and resolve, and fractured their unity to the point where the Empire damn near won.

Absolutely agree with you!

Here’s a test clip of the SKB explosion without Poe or any “chipper” X-Wing pilots. I’ve added in a sound effect for the Falcon, since the music had to be faded over prior to that point. Unfortunately, I could not find an identical woosh sound for the X-Wings going by, and so I brought the audio level for the second shot’s wooshes down to approximately match. Altogether, it’s a slightly less punchy Falcon sound and less pronounced foley for the X-Wings compared to the original. At least, at this point.
If anyone is able to play this back and appraise it on a 5.1 surround system, I’d value that. I tried to closely mimic the pan from front to back as heard in each track in the original.

And, Mala, thanks for the offer about the subtitles. That will come in very handy when the time comes.
And, Sougouk, WELCOME to our hive of insanity! We’ve got jackets. Or, at least, I remember ordering one 12 years ago and never getting it. Who was that guy, again? I just remembered that… FFS.

This is so good! With all the happy stuff gone, it really feels a lot more tonally consistent. Nice work Hal 😃

I’m sure he would have, had he been given more than four weeks to compose the score. I’d like to hear what he could come up with given a proper schedule.

Definitely agree. I was listening to the Rouge One soundtrack in the car the other day and it feels to me just like the movie does: a lead-in to A New Hope. Giacchino I think did a fantastic job producing a Williams-esque score that transitions into A New Hope in the time he had.

As for the Imperial March, I’m glad that he gave us the reference without outright stating it. In A New Hope, we had a very different Imperial/Darth Vader Theme and the Death Star’s motif and I was thrilled to hear Giacchino reference these throughout the film because to me, these themes represent a more consolidated and confident Empire that is in control (still evil but more low-key, refined, and bureaucratic. If you listen closely, you can hear some of the DNA of the Imperial March within the original Imperial/Vader theme, too), and the power and menace of the Death Star. For me, the Imperial March has always been the theme of a driven Empire, an angry Empire, which is what we see in Empire and Jedi. They’ve been knocked for a loop by the end of A New Hope and it’s time to take off the gloves of refinement and go to war, which is why I was very happy that Giacchino went back and pulled more from A New Hope when scoring the Empire as it’s a time before Skywalker and the loss of their superweapon; the drive we see in Empire and Jedi isn’t there yet, and so there shouldn’t be an Imperial March yet either.

Its reference during the hallway scene is perfect to me because it’s our first real glimpse at a driven Vader with the Empire behind him, so it makes sense to give us a hint of a taste of what’s possible and what’s to come.

ROTJ is the best Star Wars film... discuss!

wren597 said:

It had the best space battle of any of the Original Trilogy,

I don’t know if I’m the only one who thinks this but I actually have come to prefer the Battle of Yavin far more (particularly the revisited version). It’s much easier to follow, with superior tension and it is a really strong space battle when looked at in isolation. Return of the Jedi’s space battle is really awesome but I feel like it maybe has a little more flair and less substance than Yavin. But seriously, revisited takes it to a whole new level.

Machete Order? mmm
Time

joefavs said:

Personally, I’ve never taken to Machete order. Being deeply familiar with the films myself, I don’t derive any benefit from breaking the flow of the OT by jamming the PT in the middle for the sake of avoiding spoilers. If I were to have a marathon by myself or with friends who have already seen everything, I’d go chronological, likely skipping the PT or using fan edits. If I were introducing someone to the saga, say, to cram for VIII this December, I’d show them the OT and TFA in rapid succession, followed by R1 if they’re into it. If whoever I’m showing the films to in this scenario is interested in the prequels, I’d show those on their own day after the fact. I’d never force them on anyone, but I do think they’re worth a watch for new fans simply for perspective. It would be a mistake to muddy someone’s initial viewing with them, though.

Even knowing the Vader reveal, the prevention of that spoiler isn’t what I like about Machete Order. My favorite things is that you see the Luke’s story play out quite a bit in ANH and ESB, you get hammered with the crazy reveal. Then you see Luke’s father rise and fall to the dark side. And then both their stories come to head in ROTJ. It adds a lot more emotion when I view it in such order.

It’s nice to know that the reshoots added more Vader stuff and that the updated version of Rogue One didn’t cut out Vader possibly fighting on Scarif or anything. If they filmed him kicking ass on Scarif but cut it from the final version, I would be livid.

The re-shoots speak volumes, the original cut must have been even less coherent!

I actually kinda wanted to see Jyn and Cassian running from AT-ACT’s. I love the third act as is, but there is always that lingering curiosity of seeing those cut beach scenes.

I’d like to see a different edit of the entire film, parts just didn’t work for me, agree on third act, best part by far. The opening is confused and it doesn’t flow right imo.

Agreed. I loved the flashback but the scenes after that with all the planet hopping is really unnecessary.
