PC Game: Rebellion AKA Supremacy
Time

I am a HUGE fan of this game. Quite possibly my favourite Star Wars game of all time. It has some many random events and possibilities. Like when I was playing the other day, I had Luke imprisoned on Coruscant. The Emperor was also present (on the seat of power) Luke was a prisoner there for ages.

Suddenly I get a message that Luke has escaped and the Emperor has been injured. Then it shows me a picture of Luke confronting The Emperor, Luke beat him and did a runner.

Luke can also encounter Vader who sometimes brings him before The Emperor himself.

Great game, I hope there are other fans on this site?

I have been playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I've been wanting to play it for years. I was worried before I began that I might be disappointed after all the hype.

I'm really loving it, fun and addictive. A retro-gamers dream.

How did Vader deflect those shots?

Vader obviously dealt with the shots with the force. Without special explanation, it's not reasonable to think his hand is going to stand up to laser blasts without using the force. So I think force use is clearly the original intention. But the eu has to go and muck it up. I think they explain that Vader's gloves were indestructible or something. They also say his gloves give him super-grip, so no that's not bionic streength that's allowing him to crush the rebel officers throat, it's his gloves. What a load of bull. Sometimes I think they set out to give explanations for things in the eu just to see how they can ruin the story. The eu is full of this bull.

Good Lord that sucks!

Empire used to really scare me as a kid.
Time

Glad I was not the only one, there were a lot of other images in that film, which were not scary as such, but were somewhat of a shock/disturbing.

The shot of vaders head, unhelmeted

Hans Torture and then freezing, especially when the slab hits the ground.

I also read somewhere that Bossk toys used to scare kids in the stores, I was surprised by this, especially because I thought the original vintage figure looked kind of hilarious compared to the actual alien.  That's just me though.

Definitely the freakiest film out of the trilogy. There were a lot of shock images I used to enjoy/hide behind the sofa for. The parts that used to terrify me were of course on Dagobah. Namely the cave and Lukes face under the mask.

Was I wuss or did anyone else get freaked out by it?

That's how I feel about H.G. Well's War of the Worlds.

I had the pleasure of reading that for the first time recently (After owning the Richard Burton musical on CD)

I enjoyed it, I especially like the seemingly little known fact that a couple of fighting machines are actually destroyed by soldiers during the initial conflict. Of course, the retaliation by the others is always a devastating counter. The description of the Thunderchild's sacrifice was particularly moving. I just knew before I saw Spielburgs film that they were going to give the tripods shields.

But yes, the english is quite quaint. Because I am very immature I recall an  interesting excerpt which has not aged well at all:

"His landlady came to the door, loosely wrapped in dressing gown and shawl; her husband followed ejaculating."

This is from I-Mockery (incidentally Protoclown is a big fan of the original trilogy and cares little for prequels or EU.)

Dinner with Vader

Han Solo finds out that Lando Calrissian has betrayed him when, thinking they're going to have dinner and catch up on old times, Lando opens the door to the dining room, only to reveal Darth Vader and a battalion of Imperial Stormtroopers waiting for them. Han fires a couple shots at Vader, but then Vader force pulls the gun out of his hand, sits back down, and says "We would be honored if you would join us". As a kid, I couldn't help but imagine that they actually sat down and shared an extremely awkward meal together, with Han Solo begrudgingly asking Vader to pass the potatoes, and with a wave of Vader's hand, the potatoes mystically float over next to Han's plate. I mean, there's food already set on the table and everything. There's just such a big unknown gap in the story here, where we don't know what the hell happened between our heroes and villains from the time that door closed to the next time we seen Han as a prisoner.

Luke VS the Emperor- What if Vader hadn't been there?

Haha very good. I also used to do Palpatine impersonations. He likes to over pronounce his Bs and Ps and grimace to effect his most menacing statements. I'm trying to think of a way to demonstrate his pronunciation through text...but alas my feeble skills are no match for the power of the dark side.

He probably also uses them to pick up hot casserole dishes. That's why he was so eager to sit down for lunch.

I actually really enjoyed "Tale from Jabbas Palace" all the double dealing and lies. I especially liked the story of the gamorrean guard.

It's my guilty pleasure, but I honestly felt that the book captured the atmosphere of all the dark recesses, passages and shady figures you see and imagine in the palace.

Before the awkward refreshments at Cloud City, Han attempted to deal with Vader like he would against a Cairo Swordsman. Another one of Vaders finest moments, as a kid I remember thinking "Wow, this guy really is unstoppable!"

How was he able to deflect the shots? I always used to think it was just a force power, but were they just thumping into his cybernetics? Surely he would have still felt them? I can't believe his gloves to have been made of some kind of laser-proof kevlar?

Vaderisms, an unadulterated adulation of the man, the legend.
Time

What a great link. Thanks! Highly recommended reading, I cannot believe the amount of small changes I did not pick up, I knew there was definitely a difference at least. Even changing the position of his armour to rest above his inner robes instead of under made a big difference.

Much appreciated.

A pity that Darthblades website is gone. The article says it contained a detailed study of the costume.

Who could Uncle Owen hand a serious bare knuckle beating to?
Time

Imagine if Uncle Owen escaped the Imperial cookout that lay in store for him and his wife and instead toured the galaxy in a blue milk induced rage, taking part in bare knuckle brawls all across the empire. If I had to choose a person from each movie that I reckon he could give a serious ass whooping to, my choices would be thus:

Governor Tarkin

No contest. Tarkins biting wit and hatchet features would have little baring on the moisture farmers sun baked knuckles.

"I told you to forget it."

Lobot

Sure, he can manage an entire city/mining colony with his mind, but can he dodge a sand encrusted haymaker?

"There'll be hell to pay."

Admiral Ackbar

I don't think Ackbar can make much of a fist, sure he could probably give you hard slap, which would no doubt be akin to getting slapped across the face with a dead mackerel, but I don't think it would be enough to put down our Owen. He'd knock Ackbar into orbit around Endor.

"I'll make it up to him next year."

Any challengers?

"Alert my Star Destroyer to prepare for my arrival." What was the point?
Time

I never understood the point of this scene at all. The original had a suitably sullen/disappointed Vader making his way back to his ship. Never one for small talk (or pleasantries it seems) he utters "Bring my shuttle." I mean, he has failed the Emperor, unburdened a harsh truth to his son (after cutting his hand off first) watched said son then plunging to a possible death...

At the same time, his leverage is escaping, his son is hanging on for his life (I'm sure Vader could sense he was still alive...) I just find it hard to believe he would really care for his Star Destroyer to stop what they are doing and set up a parade for his return. I mean, if he had come jogging out of the shuttle, shoving the officer out of his way so he could quickly get to the destroyers command centre, then maybe I would have bought it instead of tacking on an unused scene of Jerjerrod (?!?) from Jedi. I have seen people praising this scene as an well used addition to the film. Am I missing some great potential in this shot? What reminded me of this is that the Wookieepedia and EU material have retconned Jerjerrod to have really been present in Empire the whole time.

Also, his voice when he commands his destroyer to prepare for his arrival sounds off to me.

I am pretty sure I am an article on wookieepedia. Should I be scared?

Nothing derogatory anyway. Trying to kick the OT.com article off the site for not being notable enough strikes me as a dig at this site.

I agree. This site gets a huge amount of hits and the contributions towards the fandom made by you guys is undeniable.  I think the attitude towards this site and it's members from some of the fans who are accepting of anything and everything with Boba Fett in it is pretty hilarious. I've noticed digs at this place, makes it worth being a member.
