You heard what he did to Thaddeus, can't have that in the SW universe...

Those effects were weird, the real person arms but animatronic head, just odd.  I'm amazed by McBride's career.  the humor is so base yet people put a lot of money into his productions.

You did see the Chappelle's Show skit about that little scandal in the Jedi temple, right? ;)

I imagine the effects were weird on purpose. Sure reminded me of the "stoned" Yoda in Episode One though!

2001 gets a lot of references and homage in popular culture though. Hal did that commercial for Apple as the real 2001 rolled around. MST3K's final episode on Comedy Central was a huge homage, culminating in a giant monolith in the shape of a VHS tape of "The Worst Movie Ever Made.

The Simpsons and Futurama have done more 2001 jokes over the years than I can count.

Modern movies pay homage to it as well. From the Discovery pod lying in Watto's junkyard, to Kevin Flynn's hideout on the grid.

I must confess I'm a fan of that other space opera Joss Whedon wrote the script for.

It's a sad story, how Fox screwed the Firefly pooch. Airing it out of order, forcing Whedon to change the tone after previewing the pilot, commissioning a new pilot, and then repeatedly preempting it for sports and holiday programming. They had no idea what they were doing.

Isn't that pretty much what Fox has done with just about every show the past decade except the Simpsons? ;)

I'm pretty sure one reason King of the Hill had such a long run was that creator Mike Judge has blackmail photos of someone high up at the network. I swear Futurama got preempted for it even.

I was a member of the original fan club, so in essence I was paying for content like the Bantha Tracks newsletter, but with all the freebies and perks, one definitely got more bang for your 1980's buck. Some of the posters we got with renewing membership are worth a lot today! ;)

I could see charging a small fee to see that live webcam they had on the ROTS set, but I would have liked to been able to see more of the OT behind the scenes stills that had not been seen before, with an option to buy a nice print of them sans any digital watermark.

What are your favorite OT documentaries?

His ANH AVCHD has the commentary that was on starwars.com for a while and it's really good.  I didn't think the other two AVCHDs had any because he couldn't find their companions.

I wonder how many people actually popped their DVD's in the PC to listen to those.  Who was heard from on that commentary?

Did AMC ever do any OT specific documentaries? (American Movie Classics channel for the acronym impaired.) I saw one they did for the original Predator movie that was quite different from what's on the DVD...

I do have a feeling that they have done something so bad to the OT that they know it will all blow up, so they shut the forums down before anything is seen. Probably something like completely replacing Sebastian Shaw this time with Hayden, replacing the puppet Yoda in the OT with a CG version or some other monstrosity.

It doesn't look good :(

I would hope that's one line that's never crossed. George has been on record about leaving OT Yoda alone. He thought Frank Oz deserved an Oscar nomination for his performance after all!

Between the Clone Wars and the upcoming Blu Rays, it seems a curious time to shut down an officially sanctioned message board. Even if things were less than lively, it can't be a big money hole for them?

I wonder what it would have been like if he had done the changes back during 78-82, since the movie was being re-released every year anyway, it must have crossed his mind. Especially since Spielberg did exactly that with Close Encounters, right down to the "special edition" tag. He even had access to the still age-appropriate actors (Spielberg brought back Dreyfuss and Bob Balaban 3 years later) and was apparently so tortured and emo about the shots that didn't work, he might have done something interesting.

IIRC, it was the studio that pressured Steven to add the inside of the mothership scene in order to greenlight spending the extra dough on the other changes. He's recut the film a few more times since then, and the mothership interior was omitted.

If George really was unhappy with the Greedo scene back in the day, (or even the other parts of the Cantina scenes) the Holiday Special production would have been a perfect opportunity to go back and reshoot it.

How many of you watch the Clone Wars series regularly and what do you think of it?

Watched a snippet of the "Godzilla" episode the other day - some invincible Moster dinoSuer with an impenetrable metal shell threatened a planet and they started debating over the ethical question whether killing it as the "last of its species" would be justified.

Then, after they got him tranquilized with some gas, Palpatine or something decided that it should be examined scientifically, in the interest of the war... by TAKING IT TO CORUSCANT.

Then to make matters worse, Palpatine obviously does it out of his lust for power, and he actually lets that through while Mace and a few others are watching. You see, they debate over what to do with the monster in the laboratory, and Palpatine names his reasons (weapon technology for the war, indestructible ships etc.), and then he utters to himself "this will bring power, power!" or something like that with that mad, greedy voice, and Mace stands JUST RIGHT NEXT to him and DOESN'T EVEN PAY ATTENTION.

Guess what, Godzilla escapes after they try to kill it, and starts roaming the city.

Everything I've see from CW until now, was absolute dogshit.

I think that was kind of the low point of the season. But, if you're making the show, and George drops by with a story idea that reeks, you're kind of screwed. ;)

I'm pretty sure the Baron Papanoida episodes were also another "keep the boss man happy" doom task.

and I'm betting she becomes a full fledged Jedi next season.

That can't happen. Remember that Anakin can't be a Master in RotS.

Where is it written in stone that a student can't rise past the teacher? The Jedi seem to bend their own rules when the need arises. Anakin was supposed to be "too old" to train to begin with.

And there is such a thing as a "battlefield promotion"...

I even like the JarJar episodes.

Maybe going a little far there....

I have to admit that jarjar is not nearly as annoying as he was in the prequels.. now he's just mildly irritating.

Anyway, I just watched the finale last night and was pleasantly surprised that chewies appearance didn't annoy me. It was a good episode but it didn't feel like a season finale. Nothing really game changing happened. Oh well. I was satisfied.

Ashoka proved she can stand on her own in a really bad, almost hopeless situation, in spite of Anankin's fears. It's an important milestone for a character many initially disliked, and I'm betting she becomes a full fledged Jedi next season.

Chewie looked spot on to the walking carpet we loved in the OT, and nothing like the ROTS costume.

And for those that missed it, and will no doubt get a sick satisfaction from seeing it like I did...

Yeah, one of the reasons I really don't care for 3d is the fact that it puts noticable strain on my eyes to look through those lenses for a full length movie & the artificialness of it (for lack of a better word) gives me a headache after a while.  I had a mild headache by the end of Creature from the Black Lagoon by the time it was over.  It's not bad enough to keep me from seeing a 3d movie if that's really what I want to see, but I can definately feel the effects of it.

My wife on the other hand, who has long been prone to motion sickness, really can't stand 3d movies b/c they really give her headaches & make her feel miserable by the end.

I also see 3d as a one trick pony.  Sure it's fun at first but the novelty (for me) wears off very quickly and I find I'd enjoy the film much more if I wasn't distracted by the 3d effect and those uncomfortable glasses (which I have to put on over my normal glasses).

I guess 3d doesn't enhance my film viewing experience and is really more of a novelty for the shear spectacle of 3d as opposed to actually adding something valuable to the movie.  It's like a flashy summer FX film that has no plot and cardboard characters.  It's shiny & colorful & pretty to look at (I'm being figurative here) on an occasional basis, but it's not something I want to be a regular part of my movie habit.

You've actually seen Creature projected in it's original 3D format? I'm envious!

I can only speak to my personal experience with the headache thing. I definitely got them with the 3D flicks of the 1980's. (Bad projection ultimately ruined the whole thing just like in the 50's.) The current technology hasn't given me one yet, and I'm a migraine sufferer with more than enough triggers for them. The new glasses fit over my specs a lot better than the cheap paper deals they handed out in the old days.

Many people proclaimed sound, color, and even widescreen as one trick ponies back in the day. All those technologies had the chance to mature and develop though. (Even Lucas thought Dolby Stereo might just be a short lived novelty in 1977.) I suspect we'll see some sort of system that doesn't need glasses by the end of the decade.
