When/Why did you become an OT purist?

Man. I remember the "One Last Time" thing now.

Also, Wook, the Luke scream in ESB is the same as the Emperor scream from ROTJ. And the Vader shuttle scene is just the same scene as his arrival on the Second Death Star in ROTJ.

I also find it interesting how everyone was cool with the SEs until they started to replace the OT. I find that very telling. If only Lucas had done us right, this wouldn't ever have been an issue.

That's what I thought about the scream. I know Vader exiting his shuttle is an alternate take from ROTJ. (You can just glimpse Moff I can't spell whatever his name is waiting to greet him.) I thought the shot of the shuttle on Cloud City was new though?

How should have the Empire Strikes Back Plot Twist have been kept a secret in the prequel trilogy???

Ady, I think it would actually be really cool if you took the layout of this Starkiller action figure, and added a Vader Mask to it. That way, it's just enough Vader added in, without going over the top. It would also mesh better with the PT, since the Vader outfit would look a little off next to the PT Trooper outfits, since it was designed to be similar to the original Stormtrooper outfits.

Perhaps something like this (sorry for my AWFUL photo editing skills):

I used to think perhaps Anakin would live a double life as Vader for a time. (Perhaps undermining the Jedi from within?) The sith(?) armor and voice being his disguise. After the lava planet duel, it becomes his full identity, as Palpatine would need Vader's established reputation to get things done.

Because he is an attention seeking troll
I questioned that at first but seeing some of his other threads... well, the best I can say is that he belongs more at TFN than he does here.

TFN has banned him several times already.

The Vader line change by itself wasn't as bothersome as the undoing of a tightly edited sequence that follows, because George thought someone would be confused at to where Vader's shuttle was and where it would go.

James Earl Jones sounded like Vader had a bad cold. If it was even him recording the new line.

Count in the prequels and there must be a half hour or more of spaceships just taking off and landing again now. I'm surprised they didn't redo Captain Needa's shuttle ride to Vader's command ship. I thought he was going to the local 7-11 for some coffee! ;)

Take the Father Skywalker Pledge (Troll Banned, Pledge Rescinded)

The time has come for a new pledge thread, sadly.

I pledge to never respond to a single Father Skywalker post again.  I won't quote him, I won't respond to him, I won't mention him.

Please also pledge to do so.  This will only work if we all do it.  And I know many of you are already doing this silently, so I leave it up to you if you want to also do it publicly.  I understand if you wish to remain anonymous.  But this guy won't go away until we ignore him...completely.

I pledge to never respond to a single Your Mother post again, I won't quote your mom, I won't respond to her, and I most certainly won't mention her.

Please also pledge to do so.  This will only work if we all do it.  And I know many of you are already doing this silently, so I leave it up to you if you want to also do it publicly.  I understand if you wish to remain anonymous.  But this girl won't go away until we ignore her...completely.

This doesn't even sound like the fellow in general discussion. Are there two of you? Because you don't seem to sleep very much...

The marketing hook for the 1995 THX releases was "Own the originals, One last time", and the Laserdisc carried a "Last chance to own the original version of Star Wars" sticker.

So, in a sense we were warned. However, this was a cynical marketing ploy Disney had already run into the ground by the mid 90's. (Snow White would only be released once on video, ever. Fantasia was marketed as "The final release".) What savvy consumer was going to believe that hogwash again?

I can't recall if the "bonus discs" had any similar hype around them.

Info Wanted: Trying to understand film preservation... perhaps a stupid question, but shouldn't digital masters be struck from theatrical prints?
Time

There was a long contentious discussion about the Blu Ray of The Wizard of Oz at the Home Theater Forum sometime back concerning this. Some people were dismayed that the string making the Cowardly Lions tail has been digitally removed. It was argued that on a 1939 release print, audiences would never have been able to see the wire, because the filmmakers knew the film grain would conceal it.

I'd wager you'd probably not see the wires on the Learjet model on an old print of Goldfinger, either. Lowry painted them out for the UE master.

One article I read about matte paintings as a kid specifically mentioned film grain helps them blend into the live action.

Not a bad question.

The easiest way would have been leaving Anakin's fate unclear, and Palpatine not giving him a new name. (He has to earn it by killing the Jedi and Separatist leaders first.) Leave him at the lava's edge, and don't show what happens after Palpatine finds him. I think some fanedits have done this.

When Vader appears for the first time in Episode IV, there at least would be some doubt as to whether it's Anakin or some other apprentice. Palpatine seems to go through a lot of them.

Well, as Obi Wan once said, that greatly depends on your point of view. You can't buy them on the new format, but the old formats won't last much longer. (Future tv sets may not even have the old analog video inputs.)

We would all love to pay George for a super deluxe Blu Ray set that has everything but the kitchen sink, but he doesn't want to to that. What's a fan of the old version to do that isn't technically illegal if they want to keep watching what they already paid for?

No, it's not illegal to own an old VHS. Lucas has implied in interviews that he won't be sorry when the last tape wears out. He wants people to forget the originals. Even Laserdiscs may be unplayable someday when it's no longer possible to get a player fixed.

Even the 1997 versions are fading from people's memory. As is the theatrical cut of Episode One. Neither of these has ever been on DVD as they were in theaters.
