So does anyone think that The Empire Strikes Back will ever be topped as the best Star Wars movie ever made?
So does anyone think that The Empire Strikes Back will ever be topped as the best Star Wars movie ever made?
That may be the single coolest thing to ever have existed.
Sorry to bump a fairly old thread, but I think that the prequels and The Hobbit are very different in terms of quality. For one thing, the acting in The Hobbit was fantastic, particularly Martin Freeman as Bilbo, who I think is perfect casting. The acting in the prequels, well, you can’t even call it that, it seems as if George Lucas told them to be as wooden as possible with dialogue, only letting them act when they aren’t even speaking. The CGI in The Hobbit is also pretty good, albeit a little cartoony, but far better than the visuals in AOTC and ROTS (I actually feel that the effects in TPM mostly hold up, for the time). The characters are also very fun, especially in An Unexpected Journey, which is by far my favourite of the three. The action scenes are pretty great as well, apart from anything involving Legolas. All in all, while I don’t really like Desolation of Smaug or Battle of the Five Armies, they are far better than even Phantom Menace (which I feel is a good, not great film, trapped inside a mediocre one) and if I were to rate all of them, it would go like this:
An Unexpected Journey: 3.5/4
The Desolation of Smaug: 2.5/4
The Battle of the Five Armies: 2.5/4
And the prequels:
The Phantom Menace: 2/4
Attack of the Clones: 1.5/4
Revenge of the Sith: 1.5/4
The prequels, by the way, were not the worst films ever made.
Are the Punisher movies worth watching? I have heard many differing opinions on them. I am thinking lf watching them before Daredevil Season 2.
There are far, far better edits, but it might suffice.
I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to watch Die Hard. Though, I am only fourteen, and I know dozens of kids who haven’t even seen Star Wars, so, I’m doing alright.
Just watch Machete order: 4, 5, 2, 3, 6, 7. Watch the theatrical prequels and make up your own mind what you think of them. Episode 1 isn’t necessary.
There really isn’t much to like at all.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Decided to give this another chance after everyone on this site said how good it was, and well, it was a lot better than I remember it. Not as great as everyone says it is, but good. The first two acts are pretty damn good, but the third act is just bad. Acting was good all around. I found myself liking Drax and Gamora more this time around.
3/4
I was talking about the original.
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Pretty good all around. The acting was pretty mixed, ranging from good (Nancy) to terrible (Tina). I was very glad when Tina got killed off early. Nobody gave a terrific performance. The teens did really stupid things at times (if you heard creepy whispering or screeching sounds, would you really go to investigate wearing nothing but pajamas?) Also, the only scene I was scared in didn’t even have Freddy in it, which was the hallway scene. I was scared during that scene because the prosthetics they lumped on Tina’s face were disturbing, and the actress who played the hall moniter really unnerved me for some reason. Overall, a 2.5-3/4. Can’t really decide. I think I will skip the others.
FYI, here’s the original version of the podrace announcers:
That is literally scary. It looks like something out of a low budget ripoff of Star Wars.
If the don’t cast Ingruber, I won’t be watching it.
Don’t do it… It will only teach him that this method of interviewing gets results.
what?
A punctuation mark?! Who would have thought?!
Come on, shape it up you guys!
Luke Skywalker, Tatooine
Just saw Deadpool. Technically, it isn’t an MCU movie, but there isn’t a thread for non Marvel Studios films, so whatever. I found it mostly funny, though after the 27th penis joke I was feeling a little flat. The acting was pretty good, and I liked the fourth wall breaks. Deadpool himself was for the most part interesting but a little cliche with the get the girl plot. Action scenes were fantastic, who knew a gunfight on a bridge could be so fun to watch? Overall, a 3/4, wpuld definitely watch it again.
Citizen Kane (1941) – B+
Man, you must be a tough critic. Just out of interest, what films do you give A+ to?
I didn’t realize B+ was low.
No, but everyone I know says that Citizen Kane is one of, if not the best film of all time.

First I watched a fullscreen VHS of TPM when I was four. I remember being confused because at the Podrace everyone called Anakin “Skywalker” and i didn’t know that he was Lukes dad (I had already known who Luke Skywalker was, and was blown away when my Dad told me that Anakin grew up to be Vader) Then I watched the special edition VHS’s of the OT, because we didn’t have Attack of the Clones, or Revenge of the Sith. After watching Return of the Jedi, we went to our local library to rent Attack of the Clones, which I can’t remember watching at all. I did like how the VHS matched up with the VHS of The Phantom Menace, with characters on the spines. When we rented ROTS, I re-borrowed AOTC, because I wanted to see all the spines together. To my dismay, however, they only had the DVD of ROTS, which didn’t have a picture on the spine. I did, however, enjoy thre film. It’s the only one I remember watching. I liked the opening space battle, and how Anakin had no qualms with killing Dooku. I remember hating when a hero wouldn’t kill a villain, just take him into captivity, from which he would always escape. I loved how Grievous had four sabers and used them all at once. I felt so strange when Anakin turned evil. It came out of nowhere, which I felt even at age five. I was bored by the Ani/Obi battle, it was too long. I must have mixed up AOTC and ROTS, because for some reason I had this memory of Obi-Wan fighing Grievous on Kamino. Even as a youngie, they were basically interchangable.
My friend says that CGI Yoda and Jabba are far superior to the puppets from the OT. He also hates Chewbacca. I honestly don’t know why I even hang out with him at this point.
All of my ratings for the MCU movies:
Iron Man: 3.5/4
The Incredible Hulk: 2.5/4
Iron Man 2: 2/4
Thor: 2/4
Captain America: The First Avenger: 3/4
The Avengers: 2.5/4
Iron Man 3: 3/4
Thor: The Dark World: 2/4
Captain America: The Winter Soldier: 4/4
Guardians of the Galaxy: 2/4
Avengers: Age of Ultron: 3/4
Ant-Man: 3/4
I don’t hate any of them. It’s just on the whole they aren’t the best.
Cool. I’ll check out 1, 3 and new Nightmare. But, do they make sense together if you skip the others?
Hey, I never said it was horrendous, just overrated.
Are the Nightmare on Elm Street films worth watching? If so, which ones?
Eh, I wasn’t really a fan. I thought that the characters were boring, except for Quill, and the action scenes never grabbed me, despite being flashy and big. The villain was also very forgettable, I can’t even remember how he died, and Groot’s sacrifice was laughable. 2 out of 4.
