Hard cuts aside, that turned out quite well. The thought of Chewie shooting Kylo had occured to me, but as I said before, I didn’t want him to look like a trigger-happy jerk interrupting Han’s attempt at reconciling with his son, even if we, the audience, know he was up to no good, I was putting myself in the character’s shoes.
Also, thematically I wanted Han to be somewhat haunted by the attempt at reconcilation. When he leaves Leia behind, she doesn’t know he’s seen their son already in this edit, and she asks Han to bring him home if he does see him…Han’s look after she says this is now meant to be representative of how close he was to fulfilling that request.
Thanks. Umm yea this edit is a more silly trigger happy chewie. Id have to look at scene more and see if there is something kylo says that gives chewie a good idea that kylo wont turn.
Oooor. I just thought of one. Probably wont work…have kylo walk that long thin bridge use chewie yelling. So its chewie yelling that makes kylo look back instead of “ben!” As chewie is looking at kylo have han peaking out looking at kylo from distance. Have chewie have a voice over of a young boy saying something like “you’ll always be my friend chewie”…than quick flashback to showing kylo with knights of ren in rain, jedi temple burn, then the new republic planet blow up. Then back to chewie yelling and shooting kylo.
Kinda cheezy and silly.
Or…just have kylo walk that thin bridge. Have solo staring at him and then cut away. Next time we see kylo is when he finds rey and finn in snow. Just cut out kylo bleeding and hitting himself.
Id have to look at footage but hope maybe some of these ideas help somewhat.
