Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

Looks no worse than the PT to me...

I mean, Christopher Lee doing a quadruple somersault off of the catwalk in RotS is every bit as distracting and disbelief-inducing. And Ewan and Hayden see-sawing on a Legend-of-Zelda-style rock platform floating on lava?

Hayden skydiving into a hovercar?

It's not worse, but it certainly stands out more in a movie that is CG-light in all other respects.

Should Jacen, Jaina, and Mara be in the newer films?

Best story to me would be if Leia is married to another man at the beginning of episode 7 but still have to ask Han Solo's help somehow. Maybe they even did not see each other for a long time. That way you can still keep a certain romantic/nostalgic tension between the two characters and write some entertaining dialogue.

Maybe Han Solo could even have to deal with Leia's kids (with that other man). You know: he does not like them at first, but they learn to know each others during the movie, etc... (I know it sounds a bit like Indy 4...even if in that movie Mutt really was Indy's son) Could be a bit tongue in cheek, but could work, if done well. And would be more interesting than if they were his own kids, with children/parents usual problems, blah blah.

That is the worst idea ever.

Especially since it brings to mind the abysmal Courtship of Princess Leia and it's moronic Leia/Han/Space Fabio love triangle.

I re-watched the first season of Smallville over the last week, and here are my thoughts on it:

It didn't suck.

Sure, there are plenty of aspects about the show I don't like: the obvious pandering towards the teen audience, the overuse of kryptonite/meteor freaks, and the Token Black Guy posing as Pete Ross. Those aside, though, there's still a fair bit I like about the show that helps compensate for the pitfalls -- namely Jonathan and Martha Kent, Lex and Lionel Luthor, and Chloe Sullivan.

Overall, I think the first season of Smallville holds up far better than most of the other shows I used to love as a kid but now think are near-complete crap (Mutant X and Andromeda, to name a specific few).

Of course, I doubt my optimistic appraisal will hold up once I get closer to the fourth and fifth seasons. I wasn't comfortable with how the show started playing too fast and loose with the Superman mythos by then, and my stance has probably only solidified since then.

One thing I would change about the art work in the books if I were in charge is that May's hair is black and I would make her a redhead so she looks a little more like Mary Jane but that is just a minor note and down to personal taste.

Her hair colour does lighten further down the line. Sometimes it's a dark auburn and other times it's a dark brown.

Thought I would check out the return of Sensation Comics.

What you get here is two stories per issue. Each has a different writer and artist and the stories are not linked to any continuity that is going on at the moment. The writers have free run for a WW story set at any time. The first issue for example had a story from before the new 52. WW was in her old costume and Barbara Gordon was still Oracle. The next story has Diana in new 52 costume. Good start for the series and it looks like I am in this for the long run.

I wonder if Superman and Batman have similar titles. It'd be the only way I'd ever consider reading anything from the New 52.

Nomi? Shira? Jori?

I forget, are you an Aussie?

Well, they're real world names regardless of their nationality or commonality. =P

The worst is when they just pick a name for evil at random from the dictionary and call the villain that e.g.

Savage Opress from TCW and Agent Kallus from the new Rebels show.

It shows a woeful lack of imagination that is almost impressive. I'm sure at some point in the future there'll be a Sith Lord called 'Baad Gi', it's just a matter of when.

I'm honestly surprised they haven't come up with a "Darth Satanus" yet.

Well, that explains the thread title. As for the thread itself, and why we needed it, no one can explain that.

Sounds like a case for Mulder and Scully.

I guarantee once we have "Smellavision" on our TV sets, all of these Disney Wookies will smell of lilac too. :-)

The scent of lilac would totally clash with the aesthetics of wookiee fur. The fragrance of ginger and/or cinnamon, on the other hand, would blend with the ensemble completely.
