I’m still pretty young, but my excitement for new movies in general has gone down. It’s better this way, because sometimes I forget release dates and get excited when it sneaks up on me. Also, I don’t live very near to any theaters.

Well, I’m not that much older than you.

I think it’s in some ways similar for me and in some ways not. When I was younger there were always a handful of big movies every year, and in between them all I was looking forward to was the next. Now, I live really close to a lot of theaters and see a movie just about every week. Oddly enough the effect is the pretty much the same, every week I look at the new releases and it’s kind of like “oh that’s out this week? Awesome! I know what I’m seeing.”

When I go to college this fall, I’ll get Moviepass since there are a few different theaters in town. If I have time to see any movies that is, idk how much time I’ll have between college things.

MoviePass highly recommend, especially if one of the theaters shows limited release movies.

And your free time probably depends on your major and/or how much you procrastinate, college for me when I first started going to theaters very regularly, with friends being big enablers (and this was before MoviePass existed/was affordable).

Anyway, back to topic, despite my general drop in new release anticipation, the main line Star Wars films usually overcome that and get me excited. The other movies I have a bit of a wait and see approach, depending on the subject matter the investment levels aren’t the same. If say, the first film in this series is good (or it’s about something really interesting), I’m sure my excitement will go up.

And now this… hope they’re good, but once again I feel NO anticipation. It’s weird to feel this way about new Star Wars movies…

Genuine question, do you in general get excited about new movies? I myself have felt my anticipation levels for major franchise movies (and maybe just new movies in general) drop significantly as I’ve gotten older. I just wonder if I’m the only one.

D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are the creators of the TV Series Game of Thrones. The films will be separate from both the Skywalker Saga and the Rian Johnson trilogy.

Very interesting. Also note they aren’t listed as directors, which is smart.

If they don’t, it will be the worst marketing ever.

Only if the movie fails.

Results don’t validate process.

I don’t think anyone here can really speak to what makes for success in marketing (especially when you consider most of us will see it anyway, trailer or not). I don’t think they wouldn’t put out another trailer, but if they don’t, they obviously have reasoning for that. If the movie succeeds, then clearly they had good reasoning.

Read what I wrote again.

I’ve read it. You are stating that if the film succeeds, their reasoning was good. You are assuming the success is directly related to a decision that isn’t particularly traditional.

The one doesn’t prove the other, as I tried to explain.

What I’m saying is if that becomes their strategy (which, again, I doubt), I don’t think it’ll be because they’re throwing their arms up in the air and saying “well whatever, let’s hope for good luck it works!”

Just because it isn’t traditional doesn’t mean it’s bad.

I suppose it comes down to whether you decide you want to like it or not. If you want to like it, you focus more on why you like it; if you don’t, you focus more on why you don’t. You can certainly discuss flaws in something you like, but primarily after it’s been established that the thing you like is the thing they like. Kind of like picking on a mutual friend behind their back, as opposed to listening to someone who hates their guts.

It’s not even really that. It’s just nitpicking I can’t stand. Yeah, you can nitpick and find seeming logic flaws in the plot or whatever. But it’s just as easy to find reasonable excuses for them. For me, these kind of little things ultimately don’t matter in regards to the movie’s quality.

It’s weird that praise is never questioned but the slightest criticism always is.

I don’t see anyone here making declarative statements like "this trailer proves the movie will be great, or “this trailer proves Glover has nailed Lando.” I mostly just see people saying “that looks cool.” You don’t need context to think something looks cool. Even if in the final film the cool looking thing is out of place and ultimately bad, it can still look cool on its own.
