What are you going to do with your SE discs?
Time
Good, but it almost sounds like your completely content with a non-anamorphic release. I think that's the letter we should use, provided we add a sentance about liking to see an anamorphic, hi-def release in the future. Like so:

.......................................FORM LETTER............................................

Dear Mr. Lucas,

Enclosed, please find my three Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition DVDs that I received as a bonus when I purchased the Original Versions of the Star Wars Trilogy on September 12th.

I would have preferred that the Original Version DVDs be in a 16:9 anamorphic format, but since this is all that's currently available, I guess will have to settle for non-anamorphic for the time being. I do, however, hope that we can see a remastered, anamorphic version of the film(s) in the near-future, preferebly on a hi-def format.

But I would much rather watch the Original Version DVDs in a non-anamorphic format than watch the Special Editions in an anamorphic format- so I give my DVDs to you. You may do with them what you like.

Sincerely,
(your name here)

The Chronology of How My love for Lucas has fallen
Time
I think the original poster got it right on. George Lucas didn't do anything past '77, except give the finger to his fans. Lawrence Kasdan is a great screenwriter, and it was him that made ESB, along with the brilliant directing talents of Irvin Kershner, the best film in the Star Wars saga. George Lucas did work on the script of ROTJ, and we all know that that movie, though still great, was inferior to the first two. I don't know if the rest of you agree, but I thought that AOTC was the best of the PT, and I did a little research and found out way. Lawrence Kasdan worked on the script for AOTC! That's what made it better than the other two. (Still not a great movie.)

I saw others on this thread discussing the Yoda fight scenes. I thought this was the stupidest thing about the PT's, and its what pushed me to hating the movies. Yoda is an old, dying man in ESB and ROTJ. He's obviously been old and handicapped for years and years. How did he get so old in the twenty year gap between 3 and 4? If I were making the PT, Yoda would still be in them, but he'd only really be seen in the Jedi council room, and he sure as hell would never wield a lightsaber. (Too powerful to use a simple weapon like that.) Seriously, the timeline in the PT screws everything up. Yoda is old. Very old. And he should have acted just as old in the PT. I would have still had him confront Sidious in ROTS, but not with lightsabers. Both of them were too powerful for lightsabers.

Good idea. It'd be hell organizing it to send them all together, but if we could send them indavidually, with a letter we all agree on, that'd work perfectly. Here's a rough idea of what it should say.

To Whom it May Concern:

I have sent back this disc containing the 2004 Special Edition from the recent editions of the Original Trilogy released on September 12th, the one including the Unaltered Trilogy, because I quite frankly have no need for it. I bought this set for the Unaltered film, the version I prefer. Since I finally have the version of the film that I prefer, I find that this disc containing, what is in my mind, the inferior edition, is completely useless. I have what I wanted, you may do what you please with this disc. And please give us a remastered Hi-Def release of the Unaltered trilogy in the near future.

Sincerely,
Your Name Here

I don't know if that's what people had in mind, but I think something like that, polite but firm, would be good. We could use my rough draft here as a base so that we can keep revising it until we have a version we all agree on.

The last time you saw one of the Star Wars films
Time
Heh, Same Here. It's the complete oposite of my affection for the OT. The first time I watched TPM, AOTC and ROTS, I thought they were pretty cool. Each subsequent time I watched them, they were worse and worse for me, especially ROTS, which I thought was good in my initial viewing of it. I was taken in by the special effects and amazing lightsaber duels in each film, not noticing the horrible dialouge and numerous plot holes they created. Now, I can't even stand to watch PM. AOTC is ok, but now I can't stand most of ROTS. (In fact, AOTC is probably the one in the PT I can find the most enjoyment in.)

Anyway, what was the last Star Wars film I watched? ESB, last week.

Even though my last post might not have showed it, I do think the idea to send them back is a great one. If Lucas really was conducting his "experiment" to see which version the public likes more, he'd release two seperate versions come September. The 2004 editions, and the unaltered versions. THEN he'd see which one was preferred.

But since he isn't doing that, his reaction when these sets sell great will be that people only bought them for the 2004 special edition. So we need to do what we can to show him which version we prefer. (If the fact that the petition here had over 72,000 signatures by the time it stopped accepting didn't show him.) So sending the discs back is a great idea.

I can just imagine Lucas' reaction.

Random Employee: Um...Sir, we have a package for you.

Lucas: What is it?

Random Employee: It appears to be a crate full of DVD's from last week's release.

Lucas: Hah! I KNEW people didn't want the Unaltered trilogy! They just wanted the special edition.

Random Employee: Umm...the discs are all disc one....

Lucas: What the....Oh, I get it! People must have beeen mistaken. Since we highlited this release with the OOT, which I told you you shouldn't do, people thought the OOT was on Disc ONE and thought the special edition was on disc 2, so they mistakenly sent back disc one. Find out who they're from and send them back. I don't want them to just have the bonus material disc.

Random employee: Umm...I think it was on purpose sir. See, there was this note with the package and it---

Lucas: Shut up and send the disc back. Also, now that we know that people don't want the Unaltered trilogy, get someone to burn every last print and master we have left, alright?

Random Employee: Um...Ok...

Today, I thanked George Lucas...

What a great story. It helped me come to terms with something I've expreianced in the past years. A friend of mine loves the PT a lot, and I just couldn't understand why. He's a total PT fanatic, and I thought that was just downright wierd. The story you shared with us made me realize that even if we don't feel the same way, there is magic in the PT that some can experiance, a magic that can give people hope and have fun, and in the case of Quinn, experiance something that makes them truly happy in thier short time here.

Manga and Anime Fans
Time
I LOVE Manga. It's much better than the crap Americna comic-book artists produce. I've probably spent about a thousand dollars on Manga books in the last five years, and I'm very proud of the huge collection I've built. I too like Manga better than Anime. In Anime, there's always so much filler and the pacing is off, but not in Manga. I like that they usually produce it unscensored here in America, unlike Anime. I think I collect about six series of Manga right now. (Though I only buy from Shonen Jump. They have the cheepest and best manga.)

Here are some of the series I collect:

Death Note

Number One in my book right now. It's so fast-paced and thrilling, even if there isn't a lot of action in it. If you haven't read it, go pick up a copy of volume one, you'll be hooked.

Dragon Ball and DBZ

Originally all called Dragon Ball. Great series, they just came out with the final volume of Z. (I have all of them.) It's much better than the long and drawn out anime, which I can't stand dubbed.

One Piece:

Though repetitive, its great action that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It has good morals too about dreams and overcoming obstacles. MUCH better than the crappy anime.

I'd reccomend all of those series, they're really really good, and all of them better than anime counterparts. (Granted, Death Note's anime doesn't premier until December.)

Why do you treat me like a 6-year-old? If you remember the age I gave, it was more than twice as high. And stop saying that the internet was made so that people could acess porn at the touch of a button. The internet was not made for that, but it sadly evolved into that shortly after its creation. You can bash me all you like, just stop using the age excuse as a point for bashing. You might also want to check your spelling and grammar from time to time. Or are you going to use some excuse about being German to wriggle out of that one too?

The Arrows are there to bring order into this chaos.

That made me laugh. YOU are the one creating the chaos by bashing every last statement someone makes. I know what you're reply to this post will be. You'll analyze my post sentacnce by sentance with the stupid little arrows and prove your utter stupidity even furthur.

I cant remember insulting you. Okay, you are a child,
but saying this is just speaking out reality, not an
insult

And as far as i remember, the internet was not
invented to be used by children.

Chris

You don't remember insulting me? You might want to check yourself into a hospital for that one.

And the internet wasn't invented to be used for children? The internet was invented as a tool for sharing information worldwide, be it for children or adults, not so that some German bastard could get on a Star Wars forums and bash every last person who posts.

Sorry if that last comment sounded slightly racist. Just wanted to even out the odds for you making jibes on British people.

Lucasfilm to sell Physical Effects Unit
Time
Exactly! Disney is no longer Disney. They just jumped on the CGI bandwagon, which I'm sure will die soon. It's a fun gimmick, but most people grew up on traditional animation. The only people who have grown up on CGI are people born from the year 2000 and on. THet worst thing about CGI films is that most of them have horrible stories and voice acting. Because its CGI and is more complicated than 2-d drawing, they focus more on the Animation than on the story, and its killing modern animation. I can honestly say I've only enjoyed one animated film this year, and it was Cars. Pixar always gets it right, especially with John Lasseter at the helm. (Although Incredibles was horrible.) Pixar films seem to fit with CGI. They have strong stories accompnoied by strong CGI, and it fits. I don't bother to see CGI films anymore. I wish Disney would just try to re-capture the magic they once had, the magic that died back in the mid-ninties....

Thanks Harlock, but I have given up fighting the fight over there, now my goal is just to expose how one sided that website is, and I have been pissing off Twilekjedi, the CT mod there all day. I PM'd him and asked him if they could create a specific forum that was totally seperate known as the O-OT Forum. I told him if they created it, I would get everyone back who left, and it would be a omage to all the fans who grew up with the series from 77-83, and it would make us feel wanted, not just having our own thread, but our own FORUM! He replied NO WAY, and said it was brought up in the meeting of the mods and nobody thought it was a good idea. I PM'd him again, and told him why don't you just rename the site, "Only Star Wars fans of the movies from 1997-2005" He never responded.

One of my posts was edited, but in it I said that I am the only one who is fighting for the O-OT on this site now since Harlock, Zombie and LordHelmet were banned yesterday. The post was up for everyone to see for about an hour, but I got many PM's from fans who were posting who pretty pissed off. Even though they disagreed with me, they really thought it was lame that the O-OT guys in the argument were the only ones who got banned.

Then I posted about SW getting #39 on the new AFI List, and at this time presently , nothing was posted on the site saying one of its babies, the original SW made a Top 100 list compared with EVERY movie ever. But they were quick to post last Thursday that Hayden won an MTV Award for Best Villain! I got about 2 replies from fans who congratulated SW '77, and my point was made: There is no one left on that site who likes the O-OT and the Original Star Wars anymore. Guys, this is the new radical Star Wars fan. Get used to this niche audience of SW geeks.

Sheesh...That's depressing. I'm guessing this is a bunch of young people who've only ever thought of Star Wars as the six-part saga, and when they saw the OOT found it to be grossly innacurate to the PT, or as it seems that they consider, the first three films in the saga. It's sad to think that the next generation might be made up of Star Wars fand like this. Though, there is stll hope. I'm a teenager and love the OOT, and I might not be alone.

Does George even read his own stuff?
Time
I do wonder if Lucas watched the OT before making the PT. It seems highly unlikely, as the PT opens up so many plot holes. Why does George feel that the PT is the definitive story, and that if any plot holes open, its the OT's fault? The NEW movies open a Plot Hole, he goes back and redoes the OLD ones. Why couldn't he have just thought it through and made no plot holes?

Judging by ESB & ROTJ original box office gross, here is why Lucas started to change
Time
I think ESB is the best, but I don't really have any huge gripes with ROTJ. I think its a great movie too, though I do agree that the Cutsey stuff was pushed a little too far. Someone else compared Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand, and the control they had over the movies; you were absolutely right. ESB was the best because of Kershner. All the character development we saw was because of Kershner, and it was great because of Kershner. ROTJ didn't have any character development, excepting Vader, and it felt very Lucas-ish to me. But I think I like ROTJ just as much as ANH. I think ROTJ has some very metqaphorical stuff in it too--For example, the ewoks are not an advanced civilization, yet they beat the force of the empire with stones and sticks. Not because they are more powerful, but because they have the will power for it, and this them mirrors itself in the other storyline going on at the moment: Luke Vs. Vader and Emperor. Luke is not stronger than them, but his will to find good in his father overcomes hatred and evil and brings down the emporer once and for all.

I do, however, agree that they could have found something better than Death Star number 2.
