Well, I've "attempted" my hand at editing and well....please don't laught at me. All I have is Windows Movie maker, I don't really do editing, and I don't have ROTS, so I took some clips from youtube.

Not bad. Not bad at all considering what you had to work with.

First of all, you had some pretty good ideas. Intercutting the lightsaber fight with the space battle is something that might work, but in the video it comes accross as a little too... less, since there isn't too much footage availible from ROTS to pull this off.

Adding that line from the video game was pretty cool too, but you'd have to remove the music from the game to make it work.

You did seem to make the fight tighter too. The Anakin surprise kick: again good concept. Execution was... a bit poor but not your fault, not at all. This would take some work anyway, since from a moviemaking perspective, a "surprise" shot is mostly filmed close to the surprsed subject, since you capture something that the audience doesn't expect aswell, and you try to capture emotion. Here it's more of a long shot, so it doesn't work too good. If we had the HD version, zooming in might work, though...

Overall: good job, again you made something pretty good with nothing. Which makes this a great job. If you like doing this you might wanna get some serious editing software. Vegas, Premiere,... I'd recommend Vegas for any beginning or advanced editor! It's a great piece of software.

Thread I saw on IMDb: When did you realize Palpatine's true identity? (in the PT)
Time

C3PX,

technically in the moves when Luke and Leia were born, Padme was also a senator and no longer a Queen.

So I don't think she was called a princess because Padme used to be a Queen, rather because - as you said - according to the logic of Alderaan the daughter of a Senator was a princess. So the title was passed on to Leia by her adoptive parents, not by her real mother.

If Lucas had intended otherwise, this would create another plothole: why the hell isn't Luke a prince???

But since most of what Lucas came up with was really an afterthought (Luke and Leia - brother and sister; Vader as Luke's father, then as Leia's father too...) it's not much of a surprise that some things just don't make... sense.

About the "what makes you a queen" thing: what about the hair :p?

Hey ben! I've just watched the video.

First the nitpicky stuff:

Well, there is obviously some work to do sound-wise. Especially in the last part the voices are a bit low and not too well blended with the new background sounds and musical score.

The colors are overall much of an improvement, but seem to be - as previously said - a bit washed out. But overall I really like the style you want to achieve with this, it does it job, just could use some little tweaks.

The good stuff:

I REALLY liked the video. It lacks technically a little, but it's obviously still a work in progress... So overall it's good stuff. The scene in which Padme confesses her love to Anakin is an improvement upon the original and the new music works much better.

When they ride into the arena the new music and editing seemed to add a new tension that was lacking from the original and added some new weight to the scene.

Consensus:

Great concept, great execution! Good job, bro. Altogether I'd rather get rid of the whole scene but that's virtually impossible... But you improved A LOT on it and I might even start to like it now ... :p

You've just made my day.

Yippie!! (I shouldn't be quoting those darn prequels, but who cares...)

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

AMEN TO THAT, Monroville.

A wise man once said that only if you consider the impossible, you can achieve the impossible.

But that man is no more. Consumed by greed and wealth.

-- R.I.P. George Lucas --

These things tend to remind me of an old story. A story of rebellion. A story of children who had to fight their own father after he turned to evil and became what he swore to destroy.

Figuratively, we all are those children. We are leading the rebellion against our evil father who turned to evil and we too have the choice too either fight him or join him. We can forget what Star Wars really was about and just go with the flow. Buy crappy DVD's, laugh at Jar Jar's jokes, buy Yoda-kicking-ass-with-his-lightsaber action dolls. Or we can support what Ady's doing. The restoration and resurrection of the original Star Wars and the attempt at salvaging the horrible prequel trilogy.

Fans already had one victory. Letting George release the originals on DVD. A big joke, I know. But he did it. And he swore never to do it.

I'm pretty sure that George has heard of Revisited. Does he care? Probably not. But do we care? That's what counts. Lucas' biggest dream is to have only his versions of Star Wars remain. But that can change. And it will change. It must change. I'm not showing this crap to my kids.

"Daddy, why doesn't R2 just fly out of there?"
"Because he's tired, dear. No more tough questions for daddy."

Well... This bickering is probably pointless since everything pretty much has already been said about this.

Ady, you've done an AMAZING job. I and all the other fans owe you SO MUCH.

I'm as much an Adywan fan as I am a Star Wars fan now. And that means a lot!!

Anyway... so who here has done some editing and who hasn't? And what do you use?

First of all, I'm not a "member" of the movie "industry". And I'm no professional editor, either . I do, however, have quite some experience with Sony Vegas, Premiere and of course, the Avid. These are, IMO, the only packages that should be considered to be used by any semi-professional movie editor out there. Other, so-called, alternative packages - for example Magix's recent attempt at trying to provide a professional package - only seem to be pro's in eating away diskspace and memory, but that's about it.

I am soon to start working on a Star Wars feature film which will - according to all involved - transcend the genre. Mainly because of the fact that it actually has an interesting, well-written story and very ambitious story to tell without being stupid.

Of course, many effects shots will be necessary, and therefore I'm considering using Premiere to do this, as the new dynamic link feature allows fast switching between After FX and Premiere. As always, being able and creative is of far greater importance than the software you use to get satisfying results.

This brings me to my next point. With all due respect, I feel that you have been a little harsh on Adywan's labour of love. He has never said that this would be the final version of Star Wars. He has repeatedly stated that this was HIS version of Star Wars and the reason that he's sharing it on the internet is not being he's enforcing is as the true version of Star Wars, rather his vision of what should be improved and what not.

And naturally some people will recognize flaws in it, disagree with it, prefer the original... But why criticize Adywan for that? It's not his problem that your opinion is different than his. Its yours.

That's right. I think that the main reason that Adywan is being bashed some times is because of jealousy. People are jealous that they don't have the abilities that Adywan has to create there preferred versions of Star Wars. Because that's the point. Why is Adywan doing this? Because he could.

And whichever criticisms you might have on Star Wars Revisited it cannot for any reason change the fact that one man (with the help of others of course, but he did MORE THAN MOST IF IT, alone) did for FREE what hundreds of paid employees of one of the most celebrated effect houses of the WHOLE WORLD couldn't: he was able to make a version of Star Wars that would please fans and give them more than they bargained for. They asked for Star Wars, George offered them more in the form of Special Editions and what did they get? A big pile of .... nevermind. You get the point.

So if you personally prefer the originals, that's fine to me. I appreciate that. Really, I do. I also like the originals, as any Star Wars fan obviously does, otherwise we wouldn't be here discussing this, would we? The point is that the original Star Wars is gone. Forever, perhaps. I'm not talking about the original negative, or the 35mm copies or the GOUT, I'm talking about the heart of Star Wars, that stopped beating a long time ago.

And that's why fans like Adywan's edits so much. They have a heart. A reason. They aren't George Lucas-style improvements which only focus on technical aspects - let's put another ronto there. Oh look 3D jabba, let's have Solo stepping on his tale, that's funny - Ady's edits are a genuine labour of love.

It shows fans that Star Wars is not lost yet. It started out as an epic saga which was meant to inspire. Now it's just meant to make money. Yet, Ady has been able to inspire us once again, by giving back Star Wars to the fans. We don't need George Lucas. Not anymore.

So, I'm just trying to show that, it's fine that you like the originals. And even if you think that what Adywan is doing is worthless, that's your opinion. But we care. Star Wars fans care. We wanted to be able to watch a version of Star Wars without having to think about how much better the original was and which changes we can actually applaud. And that's what we can do now. Because of Adywan.

Man, this is a long post. Sorry, folks, sometimes if I start to do something, I just can't stop... But I hope I got my point across. No hard feelings to anyone! I respect everyone's opinion and I'm just trying to express mine.

Thanks for reading (if you had the nerve to do so) and hope to hear from you soon.

Info: Voice Actors for Fan Edits and Re-dubs Thread
Time

Hi DuTwan,

great idea to open a topic about this, as this will be really helpful to many people, including me.

I too am looking for a few voice actors. I am currently working on a Star Wars fan film project. Without any disregard for earlier fan film projects, I think it's pretty fair to say that this is the most ambitious fan film ever attempted. Everything is still pretty much under wraps right now. If everything goes according to plan principle photography will commence next week and a website and more information will hit the internet next month, aswell with story details, cast interviews and a teaser trailer for the people involved.

Still, we need for many people to contribute. And except for the obvious need for matte painters and cg artists we are also looking for a few voice actors. Most characters have already been cast, except for a few minor but nonetheless important roles and some roles that are very difficult to cast for obvious reasons, which I'm unfortunately not yet allowed to talk about.

Because of the nature of this project, for some roles the quality of the microphone is very important, but this doesn't necessarily have to be a problem. If you have a low quality microphone but we are certain that your voice is perfect for the role we might decide to arrange a dubbing session with a professional microphone.

For others roles, for example a filtered voice over a comlink, microphone quality isn't that important. Besides, some of the technical wizards on our team might very well be able to blend in you recordings seamlessly with the other audio elements on the audio track of the movie.

So please, if you think you can help us out, send a sample of your voice to the following mail address:

thesithlordrevealed@gmail.com

You will naturally receive credit for you role and although I cannot promise you any money for your contribution, we will be setting up a system for donations and we are planning to share all remaining funds with our actors and contributors.

Sincerely yours,

Darth Plagueis

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time

I have to admit that deliberately decided to wait to register until I had something useful to say.

Trooperman, I did some research regarding the person you are looking for who did the voice in the Star Wars film noir clip you posted.

Apparently, he's quite a busy fan editor, and he's got his own youtube account, which he visites regularly.

This is the link: http://www.youtube.com/user/Spence101287

As you will see it says that the last time he logged on was only a day ago, so I'm sure you'll be easily able to contact him through a youtube private message.

Sincerely hoping that this is useful to you,

Plagueis
