I never liked that Obi-wan's outfit in ANH became the Official Jedi Uniform even though Owen wears the same thing. Have I said that already?

I agree, but I also don't think there should be an "official Jedi uniform."  The only uniform any Jedi should wear would be whatever uniform the Knights (yes, I'm making a distinction between Knights and Masters) wear while fighting in the Clone Wars.

The Dark Knight Rises: No Riddler, No 3D

Well, if I had my way (that is, if I were the showrunner of a live-action Batman TV show), the Joker would be the primary villain of Season 1 - not in every episode, but popping up for about 1/4 to 1/3 of the episodes.  (Pilot would be the Red Hood, ending with Batman tossing him into a vat of chemicals; episode 2 or 3 would properly introduce the Joker, and he'd pop up every now and again throughout the season.)  Season 1 would end with the Joker being incarcerated in Arkham.

Season 2 would see Batman visit the Joker in Arkham now and again, ostensibly for information on other villains, but really to keep tabs on his "rehabilitation."  Near the end of Season 2, Harley Quinn would come into play, and help him break out of Arkham.

Season 3 and beyond would, as you say, see the Joker showing up every now and again, but not very often, and not regularly (if you want to know what I mean by "regularly," see the Daleks in post-2005 Doctor Who).

Damn it, now you've got me thinking too much about this again ... I might have to start drawing up some outlines ...

And now that I think about it, I might condense seasons 1 and 2 into a single season, so the Joker would be incarcerated at the halfway point of the season, and be broken out at the end.  Possibly.

James Cameron uses DVNR on Aliens Blu Ray transfer.

Those comparison shots don't look very different at all to me, IF.  The Blu-Ray just looks like it has better contrast.  And I'm looking at this on a properly calibrated monitor.

I think you're just nitpicking at things for the sake of nitpicking.  The colors are pretty much the same.  In fact, I'd go so far as to say they're probably more accurate to the theatrical release than the pre-Quad DVD was.

Nolan's films are much closer to what Batman should be than Burton's were.  They're not perfect, there are things that I'd certainly change, but they're better by a long shot than anything that came before it ...

... with the sole exception of the early-nineties animated series.  Now that was near-perfect Batman right there.  And, by extension, Phantasm.

If you ask me, they should do a proper live-action series, based more directly (but not slavishly) on comic storylines.  Basically make each season a year in the life of Batman.  Season 1 is pretty much Joker-centric, with Harvey Dent in the background.  Season 2 would be all about the fall of Dent and the rise of Two-Face.  Season 3 would see the introduction of Dick Grayson's Robin, et cetera and so on.

Hell, I'd even like to see Robin evolve into Nightwing, and have a Nightwing spin-off.  That could be good.

Note that, while I say the Joker would be the "big bad" of season 1, that doesn't mean that individual episodes wouldn't have their own villains, or that there wouldn't be multi-episode arcs for certain villains (for instance, I'd see the Riddler come into play in the last third of season 1 or the first third of season 2, have him pop up every once in a while for a season or two, then have him start to help Batman in the later seasons).

At least, that's something I think about quite often.  I've thought about writing an outline for the individual seasons just for shits and giggles, but then I realize it would never get made and decide it's pointless.

Perhaps the Blu-Ray mix has better separation and would be easier to work with?

I know how much of a bitch it is to eliminate one specific element from a finished mix, so it probably wouldn't be much easier.

I know the Blu-Ray has the isolated score from the 20th Anniversary DVD, and I'm pretty sure it also includes a new isolated score.  Not sure what the difference between the two is, though.

I read the thread and I know some people in these forums has them, doubleofive said he did, and vbangle you are just as rude as you've been the last 3 years.

Dark_Jedi's 97 SE V2 set isn't out yet.  What he's working from is (sort of) available, though it's a little hard to find.  I myself don't have it and don't know where to get it.

I'll insist to the day I die that Alien 3, especially in its 2003 "Assembly" Cut form, is a far better film than everyone gives it credit for.

To me, Alien 3 is to the first two as Return of the Jedi is to SW and ESB - flawed, nowhere near as good, but not terrible.

Alien Resurrection is a steaming pile of shit, though.  It depresses me to think that Joss Whedon had a hand in writing it.

I will refuse to buy STAR WARS on bluray!

What I am saying is I understand some people are upset that the OOT will not be on the blu-ray release in 2011 but evently it will come out we just don't know when.

And you're just okay with this?  "Oh, it'll come out eventually, but for now I'll gladly pay for the pile of shit George is giving me instead of the real movie."

That's the mentality I don't understand.  I will not pay for something I won't watch - I won't watch the SE's, and I won't watch the prequels, so why would I buy this set?  And since this is all George is willing to put out now, expecting everyone to be happy with it, why should I be okay with that?  Why should I just say, "Oh, well, it'll come out eventually?"

Today we see those things and think "day time television".  Tomorrow we'll just see the film.  Really clearly.

That reminds me. My dad recently got an HDTV with some kind of optional MotionTrack setting (can't remember the real name of it for the life of me), and I think it's meant to be used primarily for sporting events, but it makes everything look like day-time television. It's really strange watching Dexter or Star Wars with that on. We flipped to a channel where Tomb Raider was on, and it makes everything look really cheap, because it almost looks like it was filmed like a behind-the-scenes documentary and the sets looked a lot faker.

You can turn this off, you know.  Or turn it to its lowest setting, that usually doesn't look too bad.  That's what I had to do for my parents - they found watching it with the 240Hz mode on to be unnerving, and they almost returned their TV because of it.

Any film transfer will introduce some cropping, no matter what.  It's inherent to the process.

The issue is that people don't like that the Blu-Ray seems to be cropped slightly more than the DVD.

I myself see it as a non-issue.  It's nothing like the GoldenEye Ultimate Edition DVD fiasco.

Oh, and Dark_Jedi, could you cap the two shots msycamore posted above from the theatrical cut on the BR?  I think we'd all like to know if the DC stars have made it onto the theatrical shots again (as they did on the 2003 DVDs), or if it's back to its theatrical form like the Here Jonesy scene.

Just one little thing, though: digital projection. You really can tell the difference (or at least it could've been because I knew). It makes me miss film. It had this strange motion blur with vertical movement, I can't put my finger on it... Great colors and definition, though.

In my experimental editing class last night, one of my classmates said "Why does anyone even bother shooting on film anymore?"

The professor and most of the class agreed with him.

I facepalmed.
