How did you first see the Star Wars films?

My first time seeing TPM was the p&s vhs too. When I first moved into my current house 12 years ago, the previous owners left it all alone in a closet. Good for them!

Nice.  I can just imagine the conversation:

"Honey, you left a videotape in the closet."

"I know."

"You don't want to pack it with the rest of the videos?"

"No."

"There's plenty of room, Hon."

"I know."

"But we're already paying the movers to haul 16 boxes of videotapes--might we not as well just throw that last one in there?"

"Just.  Leave it.  It's Star Wars "Episode I"--you know, with the little kid and the minstrel-show rabbit thing?"

"Oh dear god give me the packing tape the packing tape now!!!"

I'm sure that's not too far off haha. And my initial reaction was "Hey it's that new Star Wars movie I haven't gotten to see yet!"

Didn't I just say, that the sabers in the ESB duel weren't redone in the SE? They just screwed up the colors.

To be fair, it should be he screwed up the colors. I actually know someone who worked on the Star Wars Trilogy in 2004 and worked on the colors for SW specifically (which in my opinion has the worst colors of the three) and he said that the mucked up colors were all George's idea. He said at one point he actually got into a bit of an argument with George when Lucas kept insisting that the Jawa Sandcrawler scene had to be extra dark. So it really isn't the colorists' fault, and the colors were in fact intentionally ruined by Lucas.

Its a shame because the new colors are the main reason I have a hard time watching the DVDs/blu's.

I almost never come to this thread, but I did today because of Robin Williams.  Very sad news.

Do you mean THE Robin Williams or is this another one I have not heard of?  I have been avoiding the news lately because it is too depressing.  if this is the Robin Williams I am thinking of then this only confirms that the only news we get these days is bad news:(

It is THE Robin Williams sadly

Yawn. I wasn't expecting a real answer, but I figured I'd send 'em a title request anyway. Clearly the same e-mail they send everyone who asks for a specific movie

Their response:

"Hello Robby,

Thank you for your email. We value your interest in Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment!

The Star Wars (unaltered) are currently unavailable and no re-release date has been set. We are happy to share your movie request with the rest of our team. Your feedback helps us build a better experience for all of our guests and it is truly appreciated!

To find a list of our upcoming releases, and those currently available to enjoy, please visit us online atwww.disneydvd.com.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reply to this email. You may also contact us at 1-800-723-4763 (US)/1-888-877-2843 (Canada) Monday 9:30-7:30 and Tuesday through Friday 9:30-6:30 CST.

Thank You"

I like how they call it "The" Star Wars.

I don't buy that what's going on in this photo is not for any kind of release. Why bring in cameras and professionals to clearly work on something for no reason what-so-ever? I'm also not even sure his tweet denouncing any future release is in English, it didn't really make much sense.

Did he mean that it was all a show for people touring the studio? If that's the case then that really makes no sense

Looks like it could be a tv interview?

It's Comic Con.

They were probably just showing it just to have something to show on the big projectors in the background while everyone partied it up on the convention floor.

That makes more sense than having an event that "debuts" these remastered trailers.

From the sounds of the guy's tweet though he made it seem like they were restored trailers. Would they restore trailers just to have in the background?

 Because they're probably not restored

Yeah which is why I didn't understand why there needed to be a new scan of the OT since the blu rays are in 2k (really 1080p)

1. 2K is still better than 1080p, with 4k magnitudes times better.

2. It's a terrible scan.
3. For future preservation.

OK thanks. So have we ruled out the possibility of it being an OUT release?

Wasn't Episode 1 the last Star Wars shot on film (until ep 7), with Episodes 2 and 3 quite famously being all digital?  In that case, I don't think we should be concerned about any conspicuous absence of Episodes 2 and 3 from rumors of 4K restorations (and if they didn't do it for Episode 1 for its 3D release, I don't think anyone plans to bother doing much further with that one).

Right. I thought all movies being theatrically presented needed to be in 4k and wasn't thinking about the original runs of Clones and Sith.

There's still a lot of 2k out there.
