After testing out Blu-ray ripping for myself, I decided to scrap the 720 MKV rip + 5.1 DVD Rip idea and I bought No Country on Blu-ray.
I'm excited to get working on this!
Here's a quick scheduling update:
MARCH:
A short-film I wrote last year has been selected for production and I'm Directing that - hopefully shooting it at the end of the month.
I'm also working with two clients for editing and graphic design.
Hopefully I can get started on No Country for Gunmen
APRIL:
Post-Production on my short film.
Another production I was doing has to be reshot because the lab tried developing COLOUR 16mm film with chemicals meant for B/W film. So that and a commercial I'm working on are taking up my month of April.
Hopefully I can finish No Country for Gunmen
MAY:
I have a move at the beginning of the month to a place still unknown (depends on work). On the 7th I have a surgery which takes about two-weeks for me to get full recover. I should be able to get back to full-force fan-editting during my second week of recovery through the end of the summer.
Hopefully I can start SMALLVILLE: Superman
JULY/AUGUST 2012
Hopefully I can start Tron: Liberty and get it done by the end of 2012

That's the plan, yes. Keep in mind that this will be a 1080p edit primarily, so the ESB scenes will be upscaled, but the ROTS scenes will be native with some colour correction this time around.
I plan on doing these resolutions:

DVD 480p (10GB)
And I'll probably just do a 720p MKV.

You say ESB without telling us if it begins where it typically does, or when in ESB when it goes back to ROTS. Maybe I'm reading it wrong? And there were a couple of instances of this. Regardless, good luck on the edit!

I've got the upmost respect for what you are attempting to do but the sound mix for the first part really doesn't play well through conventional television speakers or headphones (though I expect it's top drawer in fancy surround sound).

The sequel to Star Wars: Renascent (2011). Part II will focus on the storyline of the Empire Strikes Back with flashbacks to the first half of Revenge of the Sith.
“The Empire Strikes Back: Renascent” is the second of a three-part fan-edit which tells the story of Luke and Anakin Skywalker, simultaneously. The three films will mainly follow the storyline of the Original Trilogy and will have flashbacks to the Prequel Trilogy. It will feature new scenes, altered story lines, and will also feature some new music, which is why it’s a rebirth or a Renascence. This project was first started by two other fan-editors and it is being edited off of the Blu-ray release of the Prequel Trilogy and adywan’s edits of the Original Trilogy."

I'm unsure which I will tackle first (Gunmen or Superman) - both Gunmen and Smallville shouldn't take more than a month or two - I'm really just reworking soundtracks for both, film grain for Gunmen and supplementary scenes and basic CG for Superman.
Just purchased Tron: Legacy on BluRay. Will be buying Tron once I reformat my computer and figure out how to properly rip the disc onto my computer.
Hey guys, just wanted to drop in to say that I just got an editing position with my school's production company - if all goes well, they'll keep me on as a regular employee! :D
For the HD version I will be doing EVERYTHING from the ground up - I won't be using the project files or anything (I might look at them as points of reference, but that's about it - Vegas gets REALLY unstable when dealing with 1080p and higher).

Just dropped in to say I'll be making an ESB: Ren video soon.
I've got some housekeeping to do first; I need to copy and reorganise everything from my MacBook Pro and Portable Drive to my External Hard Drive, then make some last minute edits to some old productions I never got around to finalising and once that is done, I'm going to copy what i have on the desktop onto my external drive, re-organise ALL the files, reformat both my laptop AND desktop, and get things going again.
I'm will be ripping ROTS from the BluRay, and see if I can get access to some of Ady's Revisited footage for ESB, or I'll just get the BluRay rip off of them too, and then I'm going to attempt editing this trailer using FCP7, and a later trailer or scene elements with Avid.
Before I go into a lot of the main editing, I'm going to be working on audio editing, recreating a lot of the soundscape from scratch (so without music) so that I can use the music I want. I'll most likely be doing a lot of this with Vegas and/or ProTools.
Out of curiosity, those of you who've watched this, could you please post reviews over at FE (if you haven't already)? It would help a lot!

Yeah, I had issues with the stereo as well. I had initially edited some scenes with headphones (see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlCszi46i8c) but then when I went over it again in surround, the music bleed from the original track was much too obvious and I was able to get rid of it by putting the new music over all but the main speech track with higher volume - which sounded fine as it was on an isolated channel - when watched in stereo though, the music comes out too loud.
And are you using a PAL player? That could make sense. It's a damn shame though... At least I know what to be aware of for the next two and for the HD version of this one. :P
Where do you live?
I've had no problem with my TDK DVD-9s.
HD version won't come until the entire edit is completed and ANH:Revisted is redone in HD. I'll have the PT clips in 1080p and the OT in 720p upconverted (as ady is only going as high as 720).
