The Fellowship of the Ring (again) Grading Project 2006
Time
I was never able to grab the book cuts in the first place, so I am really looking forward to this. I actually really liked the first LOTR movie, the pacing, the music, the setting.... a nearly perfect movie, except for that arwen nonsense (I hadn't read the books, but I could tell this was Hollywood). 2 & 3 had their moments, but they kinda lost the feeling for me. But I'd be excited to see them edited closer to the books and graded properly.

Phillock, is there any chance of you doing Pay-In-Forward to Germany, when you are done?

Yeah, and having Scarecrow defeated by Katie Holmes was pretty much the dumbest way of finishing him off they could have come up with.

How I would have loved a Tim Burton interpretation of Scarecrow.....

Just thought of another Film that really needs some surgery:

The Island

It started so promising and even when the plot twist is revealed, the idea itself is strong enough to carry on story, but then the movie quickly declines into a typial Michael Bay crapfest. The action is way over the top (helicopter scene), there are too many stupid one liners, hectic cuts, and "hero shots". What really kills the movie, is the making the assasin bad guy turn to good out of nowhere. we are introduced to his background during the last 20 minutes of the movie and suddenly he appears as a hero in the finale. It's just really bad storytelling. His part in the story should have ended with him receiving his payment after his "only you and god" statement.

The Island is one of those movies that really begs to be edited, because beneath all the nonsense, there is actually a good story in there.

Is Dune a good movie?
Time
Despite all it's weaknesses, Dune is probably the most beautiful science fiction film ever made. True, the editing is a mess, the action scenes are weak and the final scene is poor, but all this can be forgiven if you let yourself sink in to the story and the atmosphere.

I really hope some day Lynch will go back and make a true director's cut of the Film. But I'm not too optimistic, we'll ever get to see it, but I almost expect a new Dune Movie (series) to be made in the next 10 years or so, a watered and dumbed down Hollywood epic with huge CGI battles, CGI deserts and CGI worms, streamlined designs, a score by Hans Zimmer, yet everything that made the Lynch Movie special, will be missing.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time
Just seen the trailer and the alderaan explosion.

Here's my thoughts:

The Alderaan Explosion looks great. However I'd suggest not putting any PT characters in there and rather using a pure scenery shot from the ending of Ep III. It's too much of a distraction and as such it kinda lessens the impact of this very powerful scene.

Also if scene as a whole, it is kinda a cheap way of killing off characters that weren't used in the later trilogy anymore.

The Star Trek scenes look awesome! That really would be amazing.

Regarding the light sabers, I think the colours are still a little too weak.

The lasers from the fighters take some getting used to, but they look decent. Never bothered me on the official DVDs though.

Two scenes I didn't like were: The Falcon flying into the hangar. The glow has a very smooth edge and looks a bit unnatural.
And the tractor beam scene with the Matrix colours. Dunno, just didn't dig em.

Other than that, it's absolutely awesome! Think this will be THE edit to go with.

A movie that would really need a touch up is Batman Begins. The fight scenes are way too fast. I dunno really if there is a way of solving it, maybe it'd be possible to slow them down somewhat, so that you can somehow follow the choreography. And the old guy at the end during the monorail scene needs to be cut out (he only has 4 scenes).
