iPad?

This is an interesting subject for me, because even though I don't have the money I'm still in the market for a laptop or netbook. Even though it just a bloated iPhone with no microphone. It looks like I'd be reading more with it. I know Google will try to incorporate their book scanning project into here to make it a better reading device.

What do you think?

Er hem...

I think the iPad is completely ridiculous and useless. They have taken everything practical about the iPhone/iTouch and turned it into something very impractical. It is really too bulky to be very portable, and it lacks much of the functionality and freedom you get from an actual laptop. So in the end, what demand does the iPad really meet? What reasons have Apple given us to opt for an iPad over an iTouch or a MacBook? I can't see any at all.

Save your money, go with a relatively inexpensive netbook (or even better for the Apple fan, save your pennies and grab a MacBook). I think the majority of the people buying the iPad will be those very same technology junkies with too much money on their hands who upgrade to the latest generation of iPhone the instant it is released. Most of the population will see the iPad as the cool but impractical and fairly useless piece of technology it is. It is like the tablet PC all over again... yeah, you don't see too many people at the airport with those do you? Because the tried and true laptop is just that much easier and practical to use.

You guys make your point. I'd probably be better(and cheaper) if I just got a netbook. At least that will have flash. Maybe one of those Android netbooks would be cool. Despite how stupid the iPad is it's expected to have more demand than the iPhone

I was an Apple fan now I'm a Google fan.

I still can't see a practical use for such items (at least for myself).

If I want to read a book, I buy a book (doesn't need batteries, cheap and easy to replace if damaged or stolen, doesn't get remote wiped by an outlet that is actively pirating author's work etc, etc).

If I want to keep a scrapbook an exercise book, a glue stick or some tape and a pair scissors can be purchased for next to nothing.

If I want to use the web portably a netbook can be picked up for a fraction of the price of these electronic fashion statements.

What would you use one of these things for to justify the price (and risk if you factor MS and Amazon etc into the equation)?

I will wait until they inevitably put in a camera. It looks incredibly useful to me though. When I'm sitting in my bed surfing the web a laptop is clunky, hot, and heavy and an iphone is small and prohibitive. I'd like to be able to surf the web with it resting like a book in my lap.

Despite any ridicule this thing will fucking sell millions. C'mon it's an apple device. They know how to market that shit.

And what about an N64 emulator?

If you jailbreak it I'm sure someone will make one. Iphone already has GBA, PS1, SNES, NES etc.
