Right now I'm using cyberpowerDVD, the trial version, I just want to be able to cut frames from movies and post them on the forums. What software do you recommend to do that? Also, is it possible to post videos on the forums, or do you have to link it on youtube.

I am a beginner and I would just like to get the hang of copying frames from movies and posting them on these forums. Right now I have CyberpowerDVD trial version. I am reluctant to buy it because it is $60 and I want to find out which is the best DVD software for beginners before I buy one. My OS is Windows XP Media center 2005 Edition but the DVD software that comes with it needs a DVD decoder, I don't understand why it didn't come with one and it seems like BS to me. I have a photobucket account. So what DVD software do you recommend for beginners?

Once I get proficient, I want to set up a raid array with two hard drives in the raid 1 for protection of my pictures etc. But I think you have to start with a fresh windows install if you want to do that. Right now I am using a hard drive that will be used as a backup and I'm hoping whatever I download on this hard drive I can bridge to my raid array once I get it going.

PowerDVD is a good choice for beginners.

Media Player Classic is an excellent all-round freeware media player, but some of the options could be confusing to beginners.

ffdshow is free, includes a DVD decoder that will work with Windows Media Player.
