Yes, it's all about the lighting. There was a video posted somewhere with Billy Dee singing the cantina song, it had a load of replica cantina aliens in it. I think it was a promo to show off the masks. Anyhow, because of that it was lit really bad, way too bright. Sure you could see the masks but the whole thing looked garbage.
Just imagine those pig monsters with lens flare. ;)
Seriously though, the puppets may look a bit dodgy, but I love the fact that they are actually shooting something real in front on the camera... On film!

The pig-like creature has grown on me. My first reaction was "My, what a horribly big snout you have." But I like it overall now. Curious how much of it, if any, they'll choose to enhance with CGI.
Really like the new "evolved" version of the X-Wing that's based on McQuarrie's original concept. It does seem to have a slightly longer neck with a slightly shorter nose than said concept, but it still looks great I think.
Could that set be a Nerf ranch and it's a settlement of Nerf herders? ;)

As I said, I wasn't talking about concept but about the look. Bantha and Tauntaun are okay, while the new thing looks ridiculous. As simple as that. No point in trying to change my opinion. :)

Looking at the engines, they're definitely set up differently. Bingo's comparison to McQuarrie's design is apt.

I read that the 'Patrol Hoggsquattle' box mock-up that SilverWook showed was done by Kyle Newman ('Fanboys' director and prequel apologist) - A neat job I thought, and I liked the name he gave it...but as I *really* like adywan's 'Nerf' ranch/'Nerf-herder' settlement idea, I'm now going to look on the 'rhino-pig'-doodah as actually being a 'Nerf' until I find out different. :)
He forgot the Kenner logo. ;)

The original intent was that one would be spoilers and images and the other would be general speculation on what JJ might do but they have seemed to have merged.
It would make sense to have a spoiler free and spoilerific thread for people who don't like their spoilers...spoiled.
