I need to tell Jack I found a way back to the past because this is sure as shit what this new Season feels like…The resurgence of my childhood in an untainted form. Haven’t seen E03 yet but I’m loving it so far.
Thread will probably have spoilers for the new season.
The last three episodes have been absolutely perfect IMO. I can’t wait for Saturday night.
.
My only nitpicks with the series so far is that Aku’s recast is disappointing (the guy almost has a mexican accent it seems), the animation not being up to my picky standards of exact replication (and the 3D CG bike was stupid), and the fact that they addressed the previously existing TV restraints on Jack’s ability to kill people. Not to mention the fact that he actually did kill multiple non-robot people in the original run.
It’s been pretty great though, and I hope it just gets better!

Not quite as far back as he needs to go, but it’s a start.
😉
I wonder if his agelessness will be explained (and/or reversed if things end up the way his hallucination-ghost-self seems to think things will end up).

If anything it’s probably nothing more than a curse. But then again his immortality could have been caused by being thrown into the future.
Aku seemed to think it was the latter, but perhaps there’s more to it.

Yeah he’s not perfect but what can you do. At least it’s still clearly the same character though.

I thought Jack killing a human for the first time was a pretty compelling development. I think there’s some ambiguity as to what happened there^. It’s certainly possible he killed them and probably the obvious conclusion, but I have no problem with them stepping around that possibility to mine some drama here.
Get back to the past, Jack!
Maybe my ears are messed up, but I didn’t notice that Aku had a different voice. I learned soon after upon browsing twitter later that night and seeing people talk about the new voice.
I also don’t mind the one possible continuity error very much. Let’s just say… something something time travel something. I didn’t know about the error having not watched the entire original run in years (and even then, I was so young that who knows if I even saw them all between the first run and later reruns).

I think at worst it’s a retcon. If we are to believe now that Jack never killed any humans then it’s not hard to imagine that yeah purposefully came just short of it in that episode (it looks like they could be dead but they are all in one piece and this is a cartoon after all so people can survive a lot). The funny thing is I binged watched the whole show very recently and didn’t even notice that myself.
Binge watching was a really interesting experience for me. I was a big fan of Samurai Jack back during its original run, even though I probably only caught a handful of episodes because it seemed like it was never on. Oddly enough, back then I just assumed the whole thing was completely serialized (partly because I had seen the first three which were, and because nearly episode starts more or less en media res and I was too young to understand that concept) and I thought it was a lot darker/more serious too (probably because it was on Toonami and seemed to only be on late at night). The funny thing is that now the fifth season is pretty much what I always thought the show was, and the first four seasons were nothing more than what I always had to take it as (22 minute fun adventures).
It seems the new episode has been delayed on account of a stupid Rick and Morty April fool’s joke. Ugh.
.
Rick and Morty has it’s fanbase too. And they’ve been waiting a long time for Season 3. A week isn’t going to kill anybody. And it’s better than the stupid stunt they were pulling last night. The only thing worse was the googly eyes thing Cartoon Network has been doing all day.

I know it has fans, and they should be happy they have their new season, but do they need an entire night of programming for one episode to play and replay ᵃᶰᵈ ʳᵉᵖᶫᵃʸ…? No, I don’t think so.
This googly eye thing sounds interesting. I shall google this forthwith.
.
A friend of mine called my brother to tell him that Jack was just moved to a later time and that the joke was over, but I think it was a trick to make me either watch Rick and Morty or JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (the latter of which would make me tear my eyes out).
.
Just be glad they didn’t show The Room this year. You would tear your eyes out. 😉

Having been unable to watch last weekend, I’m finally caught up. I love just how weird and colorful this episode was.
.
My only gripe is that my dumbass DVR keeps saying another show is playing.

I only seem to be able to catch the Wednesday repeats. Just when I was thinking about Jack’s Scottish pal, he turns up! (Did he ever have a given name?) I don’t know what was cooler, his army of daughters, or the machine gun leg. And wow, if that’s what Aku is capable of when he’s in a funk, imagine the carnage when he’s in a good mood!
As dark as this season has been so far, (especially with Jack’s internal battles with doubt and despair) it’s nice to see Jack still instills hope in people, and at least one old ally is actively searching for him. And he’s won over a new one who’s good in a fight.
Is the dark armored figure on horseback another personal demon, or is he real?

Halfway through the new episode. Great overall, but I wasn’t really a big fan of the song they played in the scene right before the commercial break.
.
Episode over. Really got scared at the end there, but all is well. I bet that scene makes me more likely to be wrong about how the season ends though (have I posted my end speculation here before?)
.
I never checked out Samurai Jack back when it was new, for some reason. Maybe I was beginning to age out of cartoons somewhat. I did enjoy the original Clone Wars microseries, though. When I heard they were bringing Samurai Jack back to conclude the series, I delved into the show beginning with the first episode. I was enthralled, enjoying each episode more than the last. No episode was truly a clunker, and the show impressed me greatly. I got through the show faster than I anticipated since it was of such high quality, and found myself anxiously awaiting the new revival miniseries. It’s an unbelievably enjoyable show, and I’ll be sad to see it end.
I recommended the show to a friend of mine and showed him a few episodes from season 1, and suggested that he save ‘Jack and the Traveling Creatures’ for last, prior to heading into the new Season 5. I hope we get to see Jack defeat the guardian and live up to the prophesied ‘conquering king’ visage we glimpsed after their first encounter.
Give Genndy another Star Wars show! I find it difficult to watch TCW or Rebels’ ugly animation.
I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Another great episode. Loved all the returning characters and the end was fantastic. Can’t wait to see where the final episodes takes us (I presume Jack’s allies team up with him to face Aku?).

Me too, though I’m worried the mention of Aku destroying all the time portals includes that one.

Okay. Pretty much, I expected Jack (and co.) to defeat Aku, but still no time portals, so he kills himself anyway, but at least he’d be at peace pr whatever. But now that Jack has already almost done the seppuko thing or whatever, I don’t feel like they’ll bring that back. It’s worth noting, however, that Tartakovsky said that “everyone will be bawling” at the finale.
.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Jack is dead at the end (and Ashi takes his place or something), but yeah I think they’ve probably done their service to the harakiri/seppuku possibility. Which is pretty cool honestly because it’s such a big part of samurai culture but was obviously never even something that would have been so much as mentioned on the show when it was more kid-aimed.
Not sure I like the severed head assassin robot shtick. And the penis joke just seemed gratuitous. I almost did a spit take when I heard it.
The flashbacks and references to past episodes was cool. I don’t think I ever caught the one with the never-ending dance rave people though.
And just who was that mysterious creature giving directions outside the bar?
The really big issue the show has tapdanced around from the beginning is if Jack succeeds, the Aku “future” ceases to exist, or is overwritten. None of Jack’s allies will remember him, if they exist at all?

I agree about the one joke. It sounded like “Hey, this is adult swim, just in case you forgot.”
