I assume you all have seen the kick butt new PS2 design. I'm tempted to get it but I know that's ridiculous until it comes down in price, since I've already got one. But that leads me to my second point; the built in ethernet adapter. That's almost worth getting.

Has anyone played Ratchet 3 online? It looks awesome.

Thirdly, if you check ebay, the new PS2 is going for over retail. You can buy this thing at Best Buy for 150. People are trying to sell it for over 200. And...people are bidding. Idiots.

So anyway, to sum it up, thoughts on new PS2, Ratchet and Clank online, ebay, and idiots?

A built in ethernet adapter is cool, i didnt realize they actually enhanced the system (though very slightly), i thought it was just made smaller and sleeker (redesigned) in an attempt to boost sales. though x-box could use a new release with a smaller console

my thoughts on idiots? i wouldnt know where to begin. But yeah, i see people paying more on ebay for things all the time and i just want to reach out and slap them. Other good ones are people that bid on "captured air" from hurricanes. ghosts' of peoples dead relatives, possessed items, and the best of them all....

$10 gift cards that they win for $10.50. Why, just why? It amazes me that these people even know how to use a computer and buy stuff from ebay. I fear for the future of humanity.

Well, if someone wants to buy it for over retail, more power to the seller. Friggin' idiots.

The way I view this redesign is their last attempt at sales before the launch of PS3. Think about it, PS1 comes out as the big old system then is redesigned as the ultrasmall PSX just before the PS2 is released. Now the PS2 is redesigned and I do believe the PS3 is supposed to come out in late '05/early '06, if I recall. I might be wrong, but I swear I've heard rumblings.

I'm not getting it. I don't play games online. Heck, I hardly play games on my PS2 as it is. I never have time. If you have a PS2 and online capability as it is, to buy this new one is almost as pointless as those people paying higher than retail for it on eBay. But if you aren't online capable yet, go for it (or wait for the PS3 as you'll probably need the money then ).

Supposedly people are paying over retail online because there is a widespread shortage of the new PS2s across the country. Seems to me to be a Sony marketing ploy.

You have to buy an adapter. I don't know if they WEREN'T forward looking, or if they WERE and saw a way to juice more money out of us. Seems like you're paying the same as an xbox but you get less hardware, fewer controller ports, no harddrive, no internet...all you get is the PS2 game library which is funded by the largest market share...

Which, honestly, is enough for me. But the xbox is a better deal.

X Box definitely has cooler exclusive games. But I know far more people that have the PS2 so swapping games is much easier.

You'd be feeding the Microsoft beast if you were to buy a second XBox. PS2 is Sony. Still a beast, but one I loathe much less. In fact, I can't say I really loathe Sony much at all.

I'm a loyal Nintendo user at age 24.

GameBoy->NES ($5 at a garage sale)->N64 (Pod Racer edition)->GBA->Gamecube
Last time I used something other than a Nintendo product or a PC for gaming was ages ago. I rented a Genesis.

I used to be a NES fan. Sony and Microsoft wooed me away this generation. I don't know how it happened, but there you go. And based on the current state of things, I don't think I'm going back. So sad.

Maybe they should refocus and just specialize in the portable gaming market. It's where they've had the most success in recent years.

But Nintendo's lack of sucsess is largely do to consumers, who use the PS2 and XboX becaue they're somehow inheirantly 'cooler' than the GC.
The lack of console sales hurts third party relations, so games like KoToR and GTA don't get published on Nintendo consoles. Think about it. The GC has a bunch of high-quality games that just don't get as much attention as Halo2 does, which is a real shame.
