Im sure most of us are woefully acceptant that GL wont release digitally re-mastered version of the original trilogy. As such i am considering doing it myself. I have done photo and video restoration for about 5 years professionally and would be more than capable of it.
Here is what Im considering.
1) Clean up the video (get rid of film haze)
2) Sharpen and re-contrast the footage
3) Clean up the sound quality
4) Create a 5.1 surround sound audio track
As it stands i don't think i want to do any changes at all to the SFX or clean up accidents(Obi Wan's lightsaber going out for a few frames). If there are alot of people who are interested in cleaning up the SFX then I might do it but Im more interested in preserving and cleaning up the original film.
Has anyone else already done this ?
With what i have seen of GL's support of fan films and so on im not sure that he would care but Im also not sure about the legal issues ... might have to do some research on it.
Please comment on anything(legal or "creative") in this post i am all for doing it but thought id talk to the hardcore fans first.
