We now have the right man on the job. 😃

Never a bad idea to add to the list of available sources for restoration. 😃

Groovy!

Thanks Poita, Harmy, and DarthMallwalker for upping the DVD9 to usenet

The Grindhouse looks wonderful, and certainly has a lot of potential for a great restoration.
Thanks so much to Harmy and Poita for bringing it to us! However I definitely support the drive for more sources. Some of the current grindhouse print is quite badly damaged, or very dark (as in Jabba’s palace and on the barge) and some is a little faded towards the blue end (like the Endor daytime sequences).
You never know, the print on eBay might have slightly less degeneration in the bits where the Grindhouse print falls down, and could save a lot of cleanup work in the long run.
cybr1d - if you have the funds and would like the print as a collector’s item anyway, I think we’d all be thrilled if you were able to collaborate 😃

I’d grab this print, but I’m pretty poor, and I also need to get rid of my 35mm print of Dirty Dancing, which has proved nothing but useless. Side note, anyone want Dirty Dancing on 35mm? 😉

No problemo!
However one might have problemo if he relies upon binsearch.info to find it.
They’ve got Despecialized & Grindhouse lumped together for reasons I don’t understand.
If Grindhouse you seek, NZBIndex is your friend
or, by the weekend, NZBKing should have it indexed I hope

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Yes, yes I do.

Unfortunately my funds are incredibly low 😛

Well it’s good to know some are open to outside collaboration from a newbie.

I’ve been talking to the eBay seller to confirm a few things and just thought y’all might be interested in seeing some other frame shots. http://jmp.sh/3PhPeJp http://jmp.sh/z789aOW http://jmp.sh/Ewoe69g http://jmp.sh/XbHL46G http://jmp.sh/P593Gnl

I’m still on the fence about the purchase, but it’s hard to say no to owning the film.

Consider this an official encouragement to purchase the print.

Hah, seconded. Newbness isn’t really a factor if important resources, skills, equipment, etc are brought to the table.

I’m sure you’re getting whatever advice you would need from poita. And I am jealous of your ability to even consider a purchase. 😃

Seemed fine to me. Sure you don’t have a calibration issue? Perhaps a sub-optimal gamma setting?

Well I think everyone’s screens are different, but I think that was mentioned before by someone else.
It may well be a feature of the LPPs across the board.

Those frames look good!

I’m new to the forum, but I’ve been lurking for a while, and I love all the hard work and labors of love I’ve seen here. I haven’t gotten to watch the RotJ grindhouse yet, but I love what I’ve seen so far. Thanks to Harmy and Poita both for this fantastic copy!

And I second Towne’s jealousy for being able to consider buying that ebay print, lol

Well, yes, that’s why we calibrate. 😉 That way, you’re as close to spec as your display allows.

Well it sure as heck isn’t going to fit onto a floppy.

Here is a ROTJ 1997 SE print. Not mine and not sure of the details.

Looks like it’s just reel 1, which would mean a different end point to reel 1 on the original LPP, as the Vader arriving at Death Star two is chucked onto the end of Empire in the SE’s right?

Is this a good resource? Might be a bit cleaner but that’s about it?

They reuse footage from that sequence, or alternate footage, but no way, the SE still opens with him arriving at Death Star II.

My mistake, I haven’t watched them in 3 years 😛

Hello, Harmy. I thank you very much for releasing the last episode. I want to expose my feelings about the silver edition. I don’t like much the solution adopted by The Team Negative One because the image is completely flattened by the different filters used to correct the picture. This imaging depth problem is significantly viewable when you compare to ESB and ROTJ grindhouse which pictures are naturally sharp and precise with 3D volume. TN1 should have worked on a better copy instead of correcting a so degraded one. I am still missing a true SW grindhouse version without any massive corrections. No DNR filtering lend a sense of warmth and body to the picture, and I prefer that. I really don’t mind dirt, scratches or artifacts. It’s an analog era with a very cinematographic touch! So, dear Harmy if you can find a better preserved lpp print like your ROTJ I will be a very happy guy! Thanks in advance and congratulations for this beautiful piece of history. 😃

They actually had their scanner out of focus, so it lends to a soft look.

The former team members are also going to work on releasing a new one with new scans from Poita, so, a better release will come in due time, not to mention when we may hear about any Tech restorations progressing soon.

SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

Well you can always re-sell it. The only thing I’d point out to you is that the cost to strike a brand new 2hr 35mm print from the IP is about $2000 (if I’m not mistaken). So you do have to consider that the asking price is about twice what it would theoretically cost to strike a new print, baring in mind though that you can’t get new prints of this film though. My point being that you can always re-sell it later if you store it right and keep it in the condition you got it in, but there’s no guarantee of its value later on. If you do get it, yes people would love to get it scanned at 4K I’m sure! 😃

Do you think the Tech’s likely to see the light of day? Do you have some new intelligence? 😃
