Favorite Cliffhanger Endings in Films

 (Edited)

I’m sure almost everyone loves a good, well written cliffhanger ending to keep them at the edge of their seat through the end credits. What are your favorites?

Try to stay away from cliffhangers that are followed up in sequels, but if the follow-up either isn’t what you consider personal canon, or negates continuity from the original cliffhanger, that’s fine.

The Italian Job (1969)

Evil Dead II (1987)

Rhinoceros (1974)

Army of Darkness (1992) – Original Ending

Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

I though we were supposed to stay away from films where the cliffhanger is resolved in the next movie.

The chain of events for the first two Star Wars films continues to stretch on to this day and the events of Star Trek 2 continue to have ramifications for several films and television episodes over many decades and a number of universes. I agree that the Final Conflict is the last proper film but the story did continue in Omen IV even though I prefer to imagine that it didn’t.

That doesn’t mean Star Wars had a cliffhanger.

Hey you don’t see me complaining when I asked for people’s favorite thing about Charles Barkley and all I get is random Charles Barkley pics.

Actually I might have complained, I can’t remember.

Hey, my favorite thing about Charles Barkley is all the images of him available on the internets.

Ah, a simple misunderstanding then. Guess I won’t report you after all.

That one movie that literally ends with a bus hanging off the edge of a cliff and Michael Caine saying “I have an idea!” was a pretty good one.

Not enough people read the EU.
