Thats what I have been saying. You normally have been critical of that view.

Personally, I also appreciate others liking SW as well. In my case, if it were any other film that was undergoing such changes, I would likely be just as quick to criticise the motivations and actions of the director IF he was unwilling to make the original version available. SW was one big step in turning me into the film fan I am today.

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Digital bits has word on changes. So far we have three confirmed changed for the 2004 DVDs.

1. Fixed color on lightsabers

2. A new improved Computer Generated Jabba has replaced the Jabba so many people have complained about

3. The emeror hologram on The Empire Strikes Back has been raplaced with an enhanced version with Ian McDiarmid.

1 & 3 I can agree with off the bat; 2 I'm still not sure about.

Well, this is how I look at it. The scene is not TOO bad between Han and Jabba in ANH if Jabba wasn't so weird looking and had his tail stepped on. So I think really, can GL not go anywhere but up after that? (Since he wants the scene in there forever it seems.)

Personally I like all three of the confirmed changes. I agree the digital Jabba in The Phantom Menace looks much better then the one in A New Hope and I like that the effect is going to be fixed. Like I said fixing the lightsabers would have been one of the first changes I would have made if I was improving the trilogy. The Emperor change I am kind of neutral towards. More changes I would like.

1. Restoration of original Han and Greedo scene

2. Deletion of black matte line around the racor.

3. Han should not step on Jabbas tail.

I can agree with those, too! jimbo, you're scaring me!

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Interesting...

The bits originally believed it was fan created but three industry sources state that that above picture is authentic.

i can agree with all of jimbos changes too!!
damn is it april fools or something...

im kinda half half on the jabba thing though... i wanna see how it turns out... could be a success or an utter fail...

as for me being critical to you jimbo im usually just kidding around... but you really have to start saying i think before your opinions...
i think it bothers many people when you say that AOTC is the best movie ever!!! lol

however as good as all these changes look...
i still want my originals..

Attack of the Clones is the Best movie ever. I can't think of a movie that blends action and story that well. Also home theater forum mentioned that the Racor is being fixed. He didn't mention where his source was but I hope he is right.

Your joking about AOTC being the best movie ever, right?
There's more to a "best movie" then just the integration of action and story. Acting performance, cinematography and direction are just three of the many factors that come in to play for making a great movie. Episode II didn't score well in any of these catagories and the Academy of Motion Picture, Science and Arts didn't think that well of them either.

As far as I know, the version released on DVD next september will be the '97 Special Edition with some additions and alterations.
According to The Digital Bits the shot with the Emperor in TESB will be altered and finally match the Emperor in ROTJ (why didn't Lucas do this for the Special Edition in the first place?). The Jabba creature in the Mos Eisley hangar scene was never up to standards and I've always wondered how this scene made it into the Special Edition, considering Lucas being such a perfectionist and 'quality freak'. He'd better left it out again (it doens't add much to the story anyway), but instead he'll 'improve' the scene using a better CGI model (and off course 6-7 years worth of software improvements). If these were all the changes he's making to the Special Edition, I could live with that (except for the Greedo shoots first thing). But I'm afraid he won't leave it with that...

While work on the '79 Special Editions progressed, the official Star Wars website was very informative on the changes and 'improvements' made to the original version. For the DVD release there has been NO official word (yet) on the changes that no doubt will b made to the movies. We'll just have to wait and see...

You don't have to worry about that. Lucas is way to preoccupied with Episode 3 to put in too many changes. In 2007 is where we will get alot more changes for the 30th anniversery Ultimate Editions.

First of all... Ultimate Editions? I mean, is that official? Really? As far as I know... it is not.

On the DVD's: I expect them to only correct some minor glitches, as those cuts when turning off lightsabers. Nope, no Han shooting first, no CGI Obi-Wan fighting Vader in a more exciting way, Han will step on Jabba's tail...

Lucas has stated that he plans on finishing the trilogy after Episode 3. So these 2004 DVDs will not be the final versions. The Ultimate Editions will try to connect the original trilogy with the prequals. It will add new scenes and new effects to match the story and look to that of the prequals. The 2004 DVDs are not about connecting with the prequals. They are about making changes that should have been made in 1997 but that Lucas lost time or forgot to make. Be sure that in 2007 there will be Ultimate Editions.

So... why release the DVDs now? I mean, if it's not what he wants us to see... oh yeah, I forgot. Money. So that he can buy his Death Star. Which is what he calls his macaroni and cheese recepie.

He is releasing them now because he is sick of fan bitching. Plus by the time the Ultimate Editions are finished HD-DVD will be availble. These DVDs are just way of making quick cash, promoting Episode 3, and showing that the movies are still changing. Personally im glad for any version before 2007. I will be buying these DVDs and the Ultimate Edition HD-DVDs.

He has no interest at all in releasing the original version because he "feels the SE is the final version/stage of the Star Wars Trilogy." He isn't interested in putting out a version that "illistrates how it got to this point."

SO WHY THE HELL IS HE RELEASING THE SE NOW, AND AN ULTIMATE EDITION LATER?!

By this logic, RELEASE THE ORIGNALS!!!!

My stance on revising fan edits.

Amen.

He is releasing them now because people are damn sick and tired of waiting and he is too busy making Episode 3 to create the Ultimate Editions now. Personally he should have released Special Editions years ago and then Ultimate Editions in 2007.

He is releasing them now so he can make even MORE money. Wake up!
