Bond, James Bond

Well, it appears the "Brosnan is out" thread is lost, so I'm starting a new one. The title is purposefully generic to allow discussion about pretty much anything ... the old movies, in-production movies, and the books.

That said, new casting announcements are out for Casino Royale.

Eva Green, recently seen as Queen Sybilla in Kingdom of Heaven, has been cast as Vesper Lynd.

Mads Mikkelsen, recently seen in King Arthur, has been cast as Le Chiffre. How he'll compare to Orson Welles is anybody's guess.

But the coolest tidbit was in the Eva Green story ... that Felix Leiter is indeed showing up again. He's being played by Jeffrey Wright.. Curious casting; I suppose he'll be compared to Bernie Casey before we'll compare him to Jack Lord.

More of the cast is available at commanderbond.net.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

OK, here's another biggie: What's everyone's favorite Bond film?
Author

Being a bit of a Bond fan I am kinda looking forward to this one and seeing how well the new Bond performs, I just hope the standard is raised from World is Not Enough and Die Another Day which IMO shouldnt be too difficult, Bronson in my opinion was wasted as Bond as apart from Goldeneye has wasnt given enough good material to work with and would have like to see him given another go with decent material.

As for Adams question my favourite Bond film is From Russia with Love, and the best Bond IMO was definatly Sean Connery though I felt Dalton was an underated Bond,I really like the majority of the Bond films though some of the worser ones IMO were definatly in the Roger Moore era like Moonraker, A View to a Klll and Octopussy.

I agree. Some of the more recent films with Pierce Brosnan have sucked pretty badly.

We've been through all this before in the old thread, but what the hell:

Best Bond - Dalton

Best Movie - License to Kill

Opinion on Brosnan - Good Bond, shit films (except Goldeneye)

Opinion on New Movie: Craig looks like he could be a great Bond, and I like this back to basics approach, so fingers crossed this will be more like the early Connery films and the Dalton films than the Moore and Brosnan fillms.

I too am a big Bond fan in all his versions. For whatever reason I'm probably more forgiving of the Bond film franchise than I am of any other. But oh well.

I'll add to the mix- Has anyone seen the ORIGINAL filmed version of 'Casino Royale'? I actually have the VHS release of it (and someday should transfer to DVD). Here's a pretty good description as written by a reviewer on Amazon.Com:

In 1954, CBS broadcast a one-hour presentation of "Casino Royale" for its series "Climax Mystery Theatre." This original production, not the 1967 spoof, stars American actor Barry Nelson as Bond (often referred to as "Card-sense Jimmy Bond")and Peter Lorre as villain Le Chiffre. In this production, the American Bond is assisted by British agent Clarence Leiter! This is a pretty much by-the-numbers adaptation of roughly the first half of Ian Fleming's novel, and is merely adequate as far as thrills and action are concerned. Peter Lorre is, of course, the real gem here. For all its shortcomings, however, the original "Casino Royale" is worth watching for its sheer novelty, and the hints of grander things to come.

Yeah, Brosnon was a capable Bond trapped in below par Bond films that just sort of coasted on his ability to do the Bond schtick but without giving a solid plot. GoldenEye rocked though; too bad they couldn't all hold up as well.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

Favourite Bond film: Goldfinger
Favourite Bond: Connery
Favourite Roger Moore as Bond film: Live and Let Die (I'm a sucker for the cheesy voodoo stuff, and Jane Seymour is HOT in this film)
Opinion on Brosnan as Bond: I must confess that I've only seen one Brosnan as Bond film (The World Is Not Enough), so I can't really comment.
Favourite Bond Villain: Gotta be Goldfinger.

Here's a question: What's everyone's favourite Bond theme song? This is a tie for me, between Live and Let Die and Nobody Does It Better.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Mine is actually the From Russia With Love title theme, which is first(and last) orchestrated theme I believe(the one with lyrics is the end theme).

I'll take The theme song from Dr. NO. which became the bond theme song.

how many books and movies are there for bond? I haven't seen any of the sean connery bond films myself. The only old one I saw was moonraker. That and the Bronsan films are the only one's I've seen.
"Who's scruffy-lookin'?" - Han Solo
"I wish my lawn was emo so it would cut itself." -sybeman

Yeah, I'm not a HUGE Bond fanatic, because sometimes his womanising just pisses me off - like in Die Another Day, when he turns that ice-queen feminist into his bitch. I guess I didn't understand how they could be attracted to him until now.

But, without further adieu, here's my take on Bond:

Favourite Bond: Roger Moore
Favourite Bond Movie: Live and Let Die (with Thunderball a close second)
Worst Bond Movie: The World is Not Enough

Live and Let Die was the first Bond film I ever saw, so that may be why it's my favourite Bond film (and it may also be why Moore is my favourite Bond. It also has my favourite Bond song. I'm almost certain I haven't seen them all, though...
MTFBWY. Always.

I'm assuming that you've never seen On Her Majesty's Secret Service or Moonraker if you're saying that The World Is Not Enough is the worst Bond movie.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I don't believe that OHMSS is the travesty that many believe it to be. Despite its shortcomings, it actually matched the book pretty closely.

Moonraker is definitely the turd of the crop.

The Live and Let Die theme song is my favorite Bond theme as well. (mainly because I'm a fan of Sir Paul)

I enjoy "Nobody does it better", from "The Spy who loved me". That movie has the best soundtrack for a Bond movie.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I actually like most of the theme songs my favourites are Live and Let Die by Sir Paul, Nobody does it better by Carly Simon though the one I hate the most is Die Another Day by Madonna, my favourite Bond villians are Goldfinger. Grant from FRWL and the Donald Pleasence Blofeld, I used to love Moonraker as a kid but as I have got older its become one of my least favourites and now rank it at the bottom along side stuff like Die Another Day, though the newest one Die Another Day is the only one I truely dont like

Yeah, Moonraker has always seemed to me to be a little... farfetched for a Bond film. I mean, it's obvious that it was a cash-in on the whole Star Wars/sci-fi craze of the time.

Yeah I think it was a definate cash-in as at the end of TSWLM it was announced I believe that FYEO was the next Bond film but because of Star Wars etc they did Moonraker instead, and yes some of it was far-fetched and Drax isnt a very interesting villian and didnt like what they did to Jaws in the film turning him into a good guy as he was better as a villian like he was in TSWLM, and a some of it is just played for laughs and is a re-hash of other Bond films, though to be fair it does have some good action sequences..
