Info: 'Ben Hur' 35mm for sale on ebay... do these sales happen a lot?

I saw these listings on ebay, and thought it was kind of cool. Do people sell reels separately a lot? Anyway, I’ll just leave this here if any interest arises.

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

People used to, because Ebay would crack down on people selling full sets, but not individual reels. They don’t seem to do that anymore, and most people sell films as complete as they can it seems.

So this seller is either unaware of that shift in policy or just being obnoxious. 😃

After reading the full description on one of the listings, it appears their target buyer is the common “buy multiple reels for a few select frames” type. 😉
Regardless, it would be pretty cool if someone was able to get a completed print of Ben Hur and scan it.

Is the Blu Ray a botch job?

As far as I remember, the Blu-Ray remaster was quite amazing. That doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be great to have a theatrical print, though 😄. But of course, preservation priorities lie with those that really need it.

This forum has totally spoiled me for blurays- I want to see everything scanned from a screener print now! :’(

That is my preference as well. 😄

I just got the BD box and after researching it’s the audio that is in need of fixing. From the Last LD on a modernized 5.1 mix is used with centralized dialogue and doesn’t compare to the big bombastic Oscar winning 70mm mix. The original has directional dialogue panning and the remix has none. Some have said the original WS LD has the original audio in DPL so I’ll have to get it and give it a go.

Necroposting and quoting.
I have the BD double feature of BEN-HUR (1959) with The Ten Commandments (Just the film discs, none of the bonus features). Wondering if the 1925 version has ever been shown in HD at all and has been recorded. The third disc with the set only has the movie in SD format though.
Would be a nice preservation project.

As far as I know it’s always been SD only.

I’ve compared and the original widescreen LD is a different mix but the BD audio isn’t too far off in places. It may be a matter of the matrixing of the 70mm audio making it harder to distinguish as there is quite a lot of dialogue leakage to the rear channels.

So TCM or anyone else hasn’t broadcast the 1925 in HD at all?

Honestly, even though I own the BD release which I typed I own, I’d need to read more about the restoration. I know it received a 6K or higher remaster from 70mm with a 4K output (2.76:1 aspect ratio!), which looks completely stunning on the Blu-ray disc, but clueless on what master was used for the audio. Even if said audio is DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 on the BD. Glad it’s spread over 2 BD50s and also has an isolated music score (in Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround).
Interesting why I love this movie so much it’s due to the fact it’s an Epic and worth watching, even though I’m an Atheist. Better to have a greater appreciation for cinema compared to having it conflict with personal beliefs.

Will this be two BD25s or two BD50s?
