I just came from reading the third issue of the Princess Leia miniseries. Here's my opinion of it in one simple word:

HOO-HUM (Or is that two words?)
I'm with you on this. It's weird to have an issue of filler in a five issue miniseries. I also didn't care for the fact that Leia and her friend were judging the Alderaanians for mining and stuff instead of producing art, because apparently not only does each planet have one climate, but every person from that planet has to have the same hobby as everyone else from the planet? It's not like we've ever seen Leia making art.

Bearded pirates in hot pants, green meat-eating rabbits, crazy old men who think they're Jedi Knights, and all assorted bits of insane awesomeness are waiting in store for you.

Dayum I need to buy these omnibus original comic sets, I never heard anything that crazy about them before...

You've never heard of Crimson Jack, Jaxxon, or Don-Wan Kihotay?!?!

You, sir, fail as a SW nerd.

The Marvel SW comics are by far my favorite thing outside of the movies (I think those last few issues of Dark Times come in second).  I even love the post-RotJ stuff.  I really liked the cartoony artwork in the last bunch of issues.

If you're interested, read Classic Star Wars right before the ESB adaptation.  Marvel doesn't really segue into Empire, so it's a bit jarring when reading.  Classic Star Wars does a great job leading right into it, and the tone of both is very similar (considering the same team of Archie and Al worked on the Marvel books).

Also, check out the Wild Space vol. 1 omnibus if you want more oldschool SW fun.

Marvel did have to put Han back on Jabba's bad side before the ESB adaptation, (they had settled things with him in the comics) and showed the bounty hunter run in Han refers to in the movie.

Hmm...did Marvel show the bounty hunter run in? I thought only the daily strip did back then. The daily strip account was the one considered the definitive version by the EU before it was all axed.

Pretty sure it did, as it lead into the blurb promising the ESB adaptation would begin next issue. The next issue turned out to be a fill in story instead though.

Yep, Marvel indeed gave its own interpretation of the infamous Ord Mantell bounty hunter encounter in the last couple panels of issue 37. Here's what the bounty hunter looked like:

Truth is there are few different tellings of the encounter out there. In addition to Marvel's and the one in the newspaper strip, there was also this one. There many even be more.

Well. I don't consider a VERY rushed couple pages at the end a proper segue.  :P   Classic Star Wars introduces The Executor, gets the rebels off Yavin, and establishes a base on Hoth, among other things.  Plus, it just reads very well sandwiched between the Marvel run.  Vader referring to Luke as his son is weird when reading it in chronological order, though.

With the Marvel book and newspaper strip running concurrently for several years, it's amazing they never tripped over each others' storylines.

One of the 3D comics published during the long dry spell of the 90's has Han and Luke scouting Hoth for a new base location, and Luke tries taming a wild Taun Taun.

I just got my Marvel Star Wars A New Hope Remastered OGN, Some new things I noticed was on page 110 where Tarkin is being told about evacuating the Death Star there has been a red 3D hologram of the Battle Station added next to a view screen. Also there is visible sand on the Stormtrooper's outfits who find the Droid's Escape Pod on Tatooine. Also the scene where Biggs is telling Luke about him joining the Rebellion outside Tosche Station now takes place at night instead of the day. The Explosion of the Death Star looks very different compared to the original, the shape of the explosion itself has been changed & there is now a praxis ring affect and finally Obi-Wan & Luke now have blue lightsabers! Overall I really like the new coloring format and loved the fact this Book does not have an annoying dust jacket However I kind of wished they would have updated the Jabba Docking Bay 94 scene with the actual likeness of the real Jabba and they should have changed Bail Antilles to Bail Organa. I'm going to be putting my Original Marvel Years Vol.1 Omnibus & this Book side by side and see if I can spot any more changes.

That they felt they needed to update a 38 year old comic book blows my mind.

It might have been cheaper to reprint the 1997 SE adaptation Dark Horse did.

I strongly prefer the Original Theatrical Versions of the Star Wars Trilogy over the Special Editions due to them being a big part of my childhood growing up but I see the comics differently then the films themselves and since I already have the Original Marvel Star Wars comics in the Omnibuses I would not have minded them changing the Jabba Docking Bay 94 in the remastered comic adaptation. When it comes to Star Wars comics we have a choice between the Original Versions collected in the Omnibuses and now the Remastered Versions since both are available, I just wished we had a choice when it comes to the Movies themselves.

Darth Vader #5 gives us some possible insight into why Han and Motti didn't believe in The Force.

Not sure if I'm on board with how over-the-top brutal they've made Boba Fett in Star Wars #5. I'd hoped they'd go more low-key with the character. More Drive, less Sin City if that makes any sense.

^On the whole I think it's fine. Nothing spectacular or important, but there's a lot of fun character stuff from the big three. This whole initial wave feels like it exists mostly just to pass the time until Shattered Empire drops in September.

I'm far from a comic aficionado, but I'm less than thrilled about the character and story developments with the sum of the new Marvel stuff. (To be fair, I hadn't read much of anything prior, and was hoping for something substantial and carefully-thought-out, in light of the "canon/legends" announcement that framed it.) It all feels so unlikely and forced, with no real connecting tissue with the films they are supposedly bridging. I think I'll have to treat the new EU the way I did with the old one: major adult novels are head canon, and most of anything else isn't.

The brutal Boba Fett strikes me as very strange in light of rumors that Disney/LFL/whoever were contemplating how to make Fett work as a sympathetic protagonist of his own film. The story group screwed up with the Marvel comics contradicting Heir to the Jedi, in which Luke says he hadn't heard Ben's voice during the two years since the Death Star.

I'll come back for Shattered Empire, but will bow out otherwise. I just don't like them, y'know? Part of it is just because I'm not a big fan of the medium.

Someone posted a cap of a single page from the upcoming Shattered Empire (not a spoiler) in which Old Ben informs a child Luke that he was a friend of his father's, flatly contradicting the dinner scene in ANH where Luke exclaims, "He knew my father?!"

My stance on revising fan edits.

Did he forget this? Probably all that "healthy" blue milk has made his brain rotten over the years (also explaining why he sees "ghosts") :D

The Darth Vader comic has officially gone off the rails. Modern Marvel stinks.
