Well said, ender.

Particularly how certain views take on a popularity that shuts out dissent.

As for ignoring important issues, this caught my eye.

If the Republicans want me to judge them fairly, they need to stop supporting Trump.

ender’s point that I agree with goes far beyond treating Republicans fairly. It’s about debating global warming, net neutrality, religious practices, abortion, feminism, etc. I care about that more than a hang up with a particular politician.

America elected Trump. I have problems with him as you all seem to. But the idea that fairness is dead unless we eject the president from office is absurd.

Sorry but it is the way I feel. I can be fair and debate with you and Ender. But I refuse to be fair and refuse to debate with those that still support Trump. This has nothing to do with whether or not Trump has small hands, whether or not he and his wife share a room, whether or not his Vice President calls his wife “mother”, wears cheap deodorant, or picks his nose. This has to do with Trump being a complete and total disgrace to this nation and its history. Everyone that supports him and everyone that voted for him should be ashamed of themselves. You want to support conservative viewpoints? Fine. You want to support Trump, not fine.

My last post on the matter: Hate Trump! That’s fine! I don’t like him either! But hate him because he’s a disgrace, not because he picks his nose. Hate him because of his misogyny, not because he only brushes his teeth once a day. Hate him for his policies, not his quirks. Hate him because of his decisions, not his unique preferences. Hate him for his words, not his idiosyncrasies. That is my point!

But I’d also argue it’s okay to make fun of him because he picks his nose. He’s Donald J. Trump; he should be able to handle it. People made fun of Obama’s brown suit. That’s okay too, in my opinion.

That was a nice suit, he wore it well.

Can we please stop talking about Obama’s suit and get back to the important issues like Mike Pence’s non-wives?

Pence has a wife? I thought that was his mother.

Why can’t she be both?

I keep coming back to “When Harry Met Sally,” which proved men and women can’t be just friends.

The politicians make the laws and hire the judges though. You can’t ignore the politicians if you want to debate the things the politicians have a say in.

Right. I’m just contesting Warb’s idea that treatment of Pence or whoever hinges on Trump. Clearly you’re judging Pence for his positions and that’s fine.

Well he also calls his wife “mother” and thinks it’s impossible to have a female friend, which is pretty fucked up.

I think the calling his wife “mother” was something that people did years and years ago.

Exactly! Just like hating gay people and women!

I’m not sure you can compare it to hating homosexuals and females.

Did it truly prove that?

Certainly a homosexual male can be just friends with a homosexual female.

Reminds me of some friends of mine who were roommates once. A co-worker of theirs was insinuating that they were a couple, and another co-worker stepped in to put a stop to it. She said “Can’t two gay men be roommates without people just assuming that they’re a couple?”

The punchline is below:

Neither of them are gay.

Right Now: The U.S. government is close to reopening. Senate Democrats helped advance a stopgap bill after a G.O.P. pledge to continue immigration talks. Check out our live vote tracker to see how each lawmaker voted.

• The Senate voted to reopen the government after 81 senators broke the filibuster that shut it down.

So we had a one weekend shutdown. Guess it really didn’t matter after all.

They voted for a budget extension in exchange for a non-binding promise to just keep talking?

Yes.

Republicans always walk all over Democrats and they never learn.

Democrats have a weak position in this situation. Trump’s base doesn’t care if the government is shut down since they don’t want much of what is affected. Republican legislators don’t seem to care about CHIP of DACA (even if their constituents do), so they’re able to take them hostage.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Ah, there’s the spineless Democratic Party I know!

I think it’s more of a matter of holding a finger to the wind and changing their position when it doesn’t seem to be popular. Same conclusion.

The New York Times and MSNBC were laying the blame pretty squarely at the Democrats’ feet, though. Maybe that’s an audience demographic they just couldn’t afford to alienate.

Maybe he just reads different articles. There’s lots of Op-Eds out there. Also, there was an infuriating amount of meaningless “Who will the voters blame?” articles, which leaned toward the Republicans without the media having to take a position at all.

Right. And I didn’t think I proved anything. I stated my observations that the media is generally biased against Republicans.

Well I was using a bit of everyone’s favorite thing called hyperbole, but you get my point. Which is that I disagree with yours.

Media doesn’t have a bias; it’s just that they’re stupid a lot of the time.

Everyone has a bias. (Good) journalists are able to set theirs aside to do their job properly. “Media” covers all sorts of people and entities, many of whom are biased…in both directions.
