I remember when pointless live-action remakes of classic animated films weren’t a thing. Those were good times.
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
*sigh*
Remember the cartoon? Where everything was colorful, and there was energy, and life, and a brisk 92 minute runtime?

Disney seems bent on remaking everything except Song Of The South at this point. I would be up for a new version of The Black Cauldron though.
Where were you in '77?
Yeah. The only real reason I watched this was to try to fatten up my 2017 movie ranking list on Letterboxd a bit. It’s at the bottom.
Hmm I feel like I should make a letterboxd account. I’ve got a bit of a list for the year myself.

Who knows, maybe they’ll make Song of the South with all (CG) animals and no human characters of any race appearing at any point in the film? It seems to work for the ride, at least.
.
I don’t understand why anyone wants to see live-action remakes of these classics. I had no desire to see Beauty and the Beast and it seems like it’s already kind of forgotten. You don’t even have to distinguish between the original and the remake anymore. It’s just understood that you mean the original.
The Person in Question
It will be interesting how these remakes are regarded in ten years or so.
Where were you in '77?
I’d be kind of shocked if they’re even remembered. Look at things like the Ghostbusters remake or the Ben-Hur remake or the Jungle Book remake, the latter of which I actually forgot had even come out. Those are pretty much forgotten already and it’s hardly been a year. With those, I’d bet a lot that 95% of people wouldn’t even think of the remake if those titles were mentioned to them.
The Person in Question
I’ve heard the jungle book remake was actually decent, but nobody can really say for certain.
Decent or not it seems more or less forgotten.

Metropolis (1927) (Whichever restoration was available on Netflix)
OG Netflix with Discs or Newbie Netflix which is pathetic Streaming?
Probably the one people actually still use which to my knowledge has the highest video quality of any streaming service out there.
Although they have made some baffling content decisions lately.

Boy you sound grumpy. I know that Netflix streams are lower bitrate than Amazon, and I guess other’s too? But hot damn, I wouldn’t call it pathetic by a long shot.
Letterboxd is great. The most prominent community is kind of awful, but the actual website is awesome.

I see you’ve met RayRogers.

I see you’ve met internet.
Look at things like the Ghostbusters remake or the Ben-Hur remake
I will continue to defend it. I enjoyed it, I laughed, so that made it worthwhile in my book.

I seem to remember the original Ben Hur wasn’t funny at all.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
Goddamn poor quote editing on my part.

Really? At one time Netflix had the best. The others must have stepped up but it looks damn good in 1080p and Amazon doesn’t even go higher than 720. It definitely looks better than vudu
Amazon and Netflix both have 4K.
yeah, possessed your facts are either a bit out of date, or just based on your experience.
no hard feelings.
maybe you don’t have fast enough to pull 1080p from amazon, or else you are using their PC browser based video which did used to suck, and probably still does. but on my Roku Amazon is certainly a much higher bitrate than Netflix, both at 1080p. but i also don’t care.
I used the sad little streaming service that jumped around from 720 to 480 and back because my brother was playing video games and using lots of bandwidth. I would have preferred not to stream it at all and to watch it on a nice Blu-Ray disc, but such is life.
.
Probably out of date information. I know for sure the last time I actually used Amazon video the highest it went was 720 but that was years ago. It’s definitely not my internet.
No offence
