Make episode II episode III

make episode III a streamlined, grounded psuedo-western about a disgraced Obi-Wan rallying others to his cause and going after the blood lusting tyrant Darth Vader

would work, because episode II could be condensed into five minutes and stapled to the end of Episode I

Like I said, I just don’t find Jar Jar’s stupidity annoying. If anything it’s endearing. As for him being a racial stereotype, that’s simply ludicrous. What little evidence there is is circumstantial and laughably insignificant. The fact he doesn’t even look remotely like a jamaican alone should be enough to dismiss this claim. AotC Watto, on the other hand…

He’s not endearing to everyone. You don’t see Mr. Binks walking around Disney parks as other prequel characters do. Even Watto got a shop in the Orlando park named after him.

Does a character have to be in blackface before they meet your definition of being offensive to some people?

I don’t think George deliberately set out to make Jar Jar offensive. The problem lies in the culture that existed at Lucasfilm where anyone who could say Gee George, I dunno. Maybe that’s not such a good idea? was long gone and Lucas surrounds himself with yes men.

Yes to this.

I should add that in addition to my ideas above I would make the case to Lucas that it would be warranted for him to do a Special Edition of TPM to change some of the more unfortunate aspects of Mr Binks, and also to maybe edit out the Midichlorians.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Weird, I think Watto’s actually considerably worse.

There’s a couple things from the Revenge of the Sith Novelization that really should be in the film, as they seem important to understanding Anakin’s motivations. (Really the whole film probably should’ve used a condensed version of the novel as its starting point, but I digress)

First, is a minor mission to a dying star, which utterly shocked Anakin to the core, and ate at him forever since then. What would he do without Obi-Wan or Padme? What would they do without him?

The second one is the entire reason he got so angry over not being granted the title of Master. Basically, he was trying to see if there was something regarding using the Force to prolong life. However, that part of the Jedi archives was locked off to the Jedi Masters, and his situation wasn’t really one he could talk to them about. So Palpatine appointing him to be his representative was seen to be his was into the title of Master, and thus into the archives. Except Mace Windu said that Anakin merely had a seat, not the title.

Also, Make Mace Windu into more of an obvious antagonist for the rest of the films. He’d represent the most strict and repressive interpretations of the Jedi ways, a clearer sign of how far the Jedi had fallen by the era of the Prequels.

I thought he already did. 😛

There’s only so much you can discuss without sounding like a joke account.

He might’ve, but I think there was more they could do. Like I’d feel some of the more questionable scenes involving Yoda might work better if they were done by the zealous warhawk instead of the 900 year old muppet. “War does not make one great,” would become Yoda alluding to Windu, rather than a slightly hypocritical statement (though a more visible realization that Yoda was played like a fiddle for following with the war might make it less disjointed, and character development instead of hypocrisy.)

I don’t really see Palpatine humoring any low-level Jedi with a lightsaber duel. Why would he bother with that?

Nostalgia for a older age when jedi and sith were in great numbers and he was a young strong man (really actually scrawny). Reveal palpatine is actually a lot older than he looks and combine his character with the “supreme intellect” as described by the director of return of the jedi
