The established canon for the Kelvin “timeline” is that it is in fact actually an entirely different alternate reality:

That is not the way it appears in Star Trek 2009.

That is exactly how it appeared and was intended to appear.

That is not the meaning I got out of Star Trek 2009.

I don’t understand how you could possibly take that meaning from it.

Don’t they say that in the film, literally calling it an “alternate reality?”

Yep. And if Warbler takes everything 100% literally then he would know that in the TNG “Parallels” episode there are millions of coexisting universes. Why that excludes the original timeline in his mind is simply beyond me.

Here’s the exact exchange from Star Trek '09:

KIRK: There won’t be a next engagement. By the time we’ve gathered, it’ll be too late. But you say he’s from the future, knows what’s going to happen, then the logical thing is to be unpredictable.
SPOCK: You are assuming that Nero knows how events are predicted to unfold. To the contrary, Nero’s very presence has altered the flow of history, beginning with the attack on the USS Kelvin, culminating in the events of today, thereby creating an entire new chain of incidents that cannot be anticipated by either party.
UHURA: An alternate reality?
SPOCK: Precisely. Whatever our lives might have been, if the time continuum was disrupted, our destinies have changed. Mr. Sulu, plot a course to the Laurentian system warp factor three.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

How is all manners of blood and violence “family friendly” but saying something is “fucking awesome” not?

Trek could get violent, but I don’t know if I’d say it ever got gratuitously violent. Even an episode with brutal torture scenes like “Chain of Command” was in the service of some kind of sociopolitical commentary or something. It was rare to see sex or violence on it which wasn’t narratively justified or was incredibly shocking just for the sake of shock value. I can’t think of any examples offhand.

I was actually referring to the first couple episodes which, while not excessively violent, are still pretty violent.

I think Remick’s gory death in TNG’s Conspiracy comes pretty close. I’m not even going to link to an image, it’s that gruesome.

The most shocking and gruesome death in all of TOS wasn’t bloody or particularly violent.

This scene freaked me out when I was a kid, and I still don’t like watching this part. It also played against viewer expectations that the redshirt always bites it.
On the flip side of the same coin, I wonder if there were bloopers where the rest of the cubed crew got accidentally stepped on?

“altered the flow of history” in other words: changed history, not create a whole other universe.

From Wikipedia(empahsis mine):

A parallel universe is a hypothetical self-contained reality co-existing with one’s own.

the terms “parallel universe” and “alternative reality” are generally synonymous and can be used interchangeably in most cases

Looks like nothing sort of an explicit crossover between the two universes is going to ever convince Warbler the Prime Universe still canonically exists.

Which we’ve had in both Star Trek Online and the Kelvin comics but I’m sure he’ll just dismiss those out of hand.

pretty sure Star Trek Online and comics are not canon.

The thing is, it just doesn’t make sense that another universe was created. How would going back in time and changing history create a whole other universe? Sorry not buying it.

Holy fucking shit warb this is insane, even for you.

I thought the current comics were canon, except for things like the Star Trek/Green Lantern crossovers.

Read up on the many-worlds interpretation of quantum physics. Once you do, it’s not too hard to imagine how time travel may create a parallel universe.

Steven Hawking believes it, that’s good enough for me.

Orci has a story credit on Khan, Countdown, & Nero.

I thought only the TV series’ and the movies were canon. But maybe I am in error.
