General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread — Page 340

Well said, NeverarGreat. I’m very much looking forward to episode 8, but I feel like the past several years for me were a second wind in a marathon.
Y’know, over analyzing and all the things we’ve covered at length many times here.
Random thought.

My stance on revising fan edits.

The idea that SW had an “overarching vision” and was not fueled by corporate impulse under Lucas is ludicrous. SW has been this way for decades. You can be cynical about it, or you can roll with it and enjoy the parts of it you enjoy.

Forgot to post this when it actually happened, but I went to a comic con last weekend in Worcester, MA and scored a bunch of Star Wars schwag. The 501st had a charity raffle where I ended up winning a gift basket full of figures and legos and stuff. Also got a Millennium Falcon model kit, the 40th anniversary black series Luke action figure with the 77 packaging, and the coup de grace, a Sebastian Shaw Anakin Skywalker action figure from the 90s.

When Shmii dies in AOTC, her last words were meant to be “I love sand” but she died before she could say the last word.

Astonishing haul! Congratulations, good sir.

Awesome man, would you be able to post a picture of the loot?

Not enough people read the EU.

Here’s the 501st basket, which honestly wasn’t anything special, but it was cool to win something. I don’t feel like gathering it all up again for a photo, and anyway I split it with my friend so I only half of the good stuff. The highlights were a little die cast X-wing and TIE fighter that I’ve got on my desk now.

Here’s everything else. I actually finished building the Falcon yesterday. I don’t trust my ability to paint it without ruining it, so I’m leaving it naked for now. It’s still plenty cool that way, IMO.

Here’s some more shots of the Falcon.

Also, I accidentally snapped off Rey’s left leg when I was putting her in the cockpit, so if she loses it in TLJ I want credit for predicting it.

Is the musical cue for Binary Twin Sunset derived from some other piece or was it a 100% unique creation? Because, still, to this day it is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard.

I assume you’re talking about the Force theme and not William’s first attempt at the scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYXLmHmTrzU

I don’t know if the Force theme had its inspiration in an earlier piece, that would be interesting to learn.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Oh man, joefavs, that’s the Bandai 1/144 TFA Falcon model. I’ve been salivating over all the bandai kits since they came out…

It’s too bad you’re not gonna paint it. If you’re unsure about how to do it, there are many tutorials on YouTube. The falcon painting instructionals by fitchenfoo in particular are very very helpful.

I visit several collector sites where I often see people lament the fact that they can’t have the replica they really want b/c the best option is a model kit and they aren’t any good at painting. I find it frustrating because it’s really not that hard and now with YouTube, there are SO many resources to teach you how. It doesn’t take a ton of skill to do a respectable job. It just takes a little practice and mostly time and patience.

I’m not ruling out taking a crack at it down the road, but I don’t have the time or energy to devote to doing it right at the moment. It’s all snaps and no glue, so it wouldn’t be that difficult to partially disassemble it for painting. Time will tell.

I just love how the classic figures look nothing like the real thing. Luke looks like he’s being eaten by his clothes.

No, the specific cue for Binary Sunset. The entire theme (and score) are tremendous but the cue used for the Binary Sunset, with the single instrument leading and bringing in the whole orchestra as Luke looks up gives goosebumps every time. Ending it with a woodwind playing the Rebel Fanfare just further shows what an amazing job Williams did on this film.

I think fabric is one of those things that’s hard to scale down to that size.

Does that Falcon kit come with a “OT” dish?
