Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers ** — Page 33

What is the norm for camera setups these days? Just how many angles can you get on a rather tiny set like the MF cockpit?

Keep in mind it suits Disney’s purposes to put disinformation out there. Which is why the Ace Ventura thing smells funny on the surface.

Where’s Gary Kurtz when you really need him?

We’ve needed him since 1983!

Gosh, this sounds almost as troubled a production as the original Star Wars!

Why would we need him after rotj was already complete?

I still like the cast they put together. I still like that Lawrence Kasdan wrote the script. I like that Ron Howard is directing. Sounds like the pieces are there to make a great movie. I can’t wait to see it. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.

Actually this sounds like one of the worst train wrecks ever put together.

Best thing that could happen for SW would be for this movie to bomb spectacularly.

There have been more troubled productions in movie history. Watch the documentary on the making of Elizabeth Taylor’s Cleopatra movie sometime. It almost drove 20th Century Fox out of business.

It could get pushed back to Dec 2018 and move Mary Poppins Returns because no one gives a crap about that but will still probably give it billions of dollars anyway.

FTFY

After just now discovering that Beauty and the Beast is the highest grossing movie of 2017 here in the States - and by a significant margin over Guardians vol 2 and Wonder Woman - yup, I’d believe it.

Since this is one of the standalones, Disney probably doesn’t care about placing it only three weeks after the next Avengers movie. Similarly, they probably didn’t care about placing Guardians vol 2 - technically also a “standalone” within the Marvel franchise - only three weeks before the original placeholder date for Episode VIII.

Exactly what I was thinking. How on Earth do you fit 15 cameras into the Falcon cockpit set?

Why would Kathleen Kennedy have any say whatsoever on camera setups anyway.

She should start acting like a producer IMO.

You do realize she is also the president of LFL, correct?

I’m sorry, but when is it a good idea for the president of the company, to be deciding how many cameras should be used and where they should be placed?

Where can we sign up and direct Ms. Kennedy’s movies for her?

You’re jumping to conclusions here. Obviously KK was not that involved in the shoot from the beginning. It sounds like they are simply talking about the directors not working fast enough and how they did not accomplish as many shots as was on the schedule. “Set-ups” do not refer to the number of cameras being used. A set up involves everything that has to come together to get a certain shot: camera position and movement, lighting, dolly tracks, in-camera special effects, actor movements, etc. And all of these set-ups would have been planned in advance.

And remember, the specific day mentioned in the article took place very recently, after everything had pretty much reached a boiling point. I’m sure after KK and Kasdan saw the rough cut, and saw how the scenes were playing out when everything was edited together, they gave the directors specific instructions on what changes to make, scenes to reshoot, etc in order to fix certain problems with the scenes. And of course everything needed to happen within a set timeframe.

That being said, I find this all to be pretty amusing. This movie was a bad idea from the beginning and I wasn’t even planning on seeing it in the first place.

I’m sure the co-founder of Amblin Entertainment and producer on the Indiana Jones trilogy, Back to the Future, E.T., Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, etc. really values your opinion.

I was just going off what other people said here and what was in that article.

I have no doubt that what Kennedy and Kasdan were seeing was terrible.

The question is why she hired them in the first place.

When I read the articles today the much more worrying thing about this movie were the things the co-directors (??) said. These guys sound like total bozos.

And wtf would anyone want to watch a Han-Solo learning-from-his-mentor (?!?!?!) movie?

I posted that months ago or last year, whenever it was they brought Woody on board.

The directors had a chance to talk about their movie and talk about Woody’s role, and instead they started talking about how good he was at ping pong. They are just screwballs, which is ok I guess that’s their thing and some people like that. But my point is you know what you are getting with them, so if you don’t want that, why hire them?

Who gives a **** what she thinks. She’s had a hand in making as many good Star Wars movies as I have. Except I’m not telling everyone here to **** off and live with the Special Editions. And I’m not hiring screwball directors and then firing them when they make a screwball movie.

That’s so cool, which two Star Wars movies were you involved in?

I would think anyone in that position wasn’t about to divulge anything about the plot let alone what role Woody is playing.

A fair question. An article I read said it was Kasdan who chose Lord and Miller and then made a big push for them with Lucasfilm/Disney.
I’m not sure why he or KK thought they would be a good fit, especially since Kennedy stated last year that the movie would have more of a “western” feel. A comedy duo doesn’t seem like the most obvious choice, although I haven’t seen all of their work.

Look, I’m no fan of her either, as she’s currently roadblock #1 in the way of getting the OOT, but you’re really just talking smack now.
