Ok.

Keep in mind I don’t read comic books and don’t care about superheroes. I just like Burton’s two Batman films on their own merits.

What merit(s) do you think Batman Returns has?

Most of them?

The characters are great, even The Penguin. The movie looks great. The score is great (one of the few I still listen to).

It’s not a perfect movie by any stretch but I really enjoy it.

How can I take your opinions on the Batman movies seriously when you’re…you?

I don’t recall asking you to do so. No one should listen to me. I’m probably just a Russian chatbot anyway.

  1. Batman and Robin

  2. Batman Begins

This is silly, and I don’t even like Begins.

Well, my reasoning is due to the fact that Batman Begins is a lot of boring origin building that has been shown countless times throughout history. For 80% of the film, he isn’t even Batman. At least Batman and Robin was a Batman movie…as shitty as it was. Plus Arnold singing along to A Year Without A Santa Claus deserved an oscar nom.

What do you expect to see in a movie called Batman Begins? And I wouldn’t call it boring origin building and I think he was batman for long enough. Please tell me you are not seriously suggesting that Batman and Robin was better than Batman Begins?

I’ve tried to like Batman Returns because I enjoy Batman '89 so much, but no matter which way I look at it, I can’t stomach it. Most offending is the horrid portrayal of Penguin. If people are going to get hung up on the accuracy of character portrayals, how can anyone find the transformation of that villain from the “Gentleman of Crime” to the disgusting DeVito representation as acceptable is beyond me. People get hung up on the realism of the Nolan trilogy whenever anything unrealistic happens, but Returns even violates the Burton suspension of disbelief on multiple occasions. Last time I watched it, I was determined to enjoy it. And I didn’t.

I agree

Soundtrack is great, though. Danny Elfman is my favorite movie composer, even above John Williams.

*rips up darth-ender’s Star Wars fan membership card and throws him out of the forum*

There is no better movie composer than John Williams.

In terms of technical skill, there is no doubt that John Williams is better. But Elfman has a way of evoking such powerful emotions, I can not help but love his work more.

Don’t get me wrong, I love John Williams. I just love Danny Elfman more.

Didn’t I already throw you out of the forum?

(Don’t even mention Chris Nolan, those films aren’t Batman or even comic book at all.)

They aren’t‽‽‽‽‽

No, they aren’t. I actually like TDK as a movie (Though there are still some problems in there), but it still isn’t a true representation of Batman as far as I’m concerned. And none of Nolan’s films are good comic book movies. Everything about them is realism-driven, which just makes it worse when something unrealistic happens, and even aside from that, I don’t want a comic book movie that tries to distance itself from being a comic book. If you like them, that’s fine. I much prefer the wonderful comic book world of Burton’s films.

I can understand thinking that the first Burton Batman movie was a true representation of Batman, but Batman Returns? Batman Forever‽ Batman and Robin‽‽‽ Bat nipples? Bat credit card‽‽‽‽ Sorry, but I’ll take the any of the Nolan films over the final 3 of Burton era easy.

Batman Forever and Batman and Robin aren’t Tim Burton films, they’re Joel Schumacher films, and they suck.

Yes but all four are part of the same series of movies.

When someone says “Burton films” they are talking about the films Tim Burton directed.

Yeah, I know, but none the less, the four movies are linked.

Even the Penguin? were you drunk when you posted this?

The score is great (one of the few I still listen to).

Doesn’t it just use the score from Batman(89)?

It is is great score, but I give the credit to the first movie, not the second.

Nope. I don’t care about any previous portrayal of the Penguin. He was disgusting and disturbing, and it made sense.

No.

No.

I’m pretty sure it is very similar to Batman(89).

Ok, why won’t you watch the video I posted? What is so wrong with youtube video reviews that you won’t want them? I’m sure there are bad reviews on youtube, but I’m sure there are also some good review videos too.

I think all of the Batman movies are stupid. But, Returns ends with Face to Face by Siouxsie and the Banshees and Forever ends with Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me by U2, so those are the best ones.

FWIW, I don’t hate Batman Forever and don’t think it’s even a bad movie. Of all its numerous flaws, the only one I find outright debilitating is Tommy Lee Jones’ horrid portrayal of Two-Face. If he had played the character straight, but everything else of the movie had remained the same, I believe it would’ve emerged a good movie in spite of the Bat-nipples and neon and ADHD Riddler.

They really should have given Billy Dee Williams a shot at the role. He was Harvey Dent in the first film after all.

???

Not sure what you’re questioning…
Those songs are in those movies which means those movies have at least one good thing about them and that’s one more good thing than any of the others have.

I thought you were joking.

So Forever is better than '89 because of the U2 song?

You’re crazy. Or drunk. Or both.
