The Promise (2016)

Set during the last days of the Ottoman Empire, at the brink of World War I, The Young Turks plan for the systematic elimination of the Armenian population. The first Genocide of the 20th century claimed the lives of 1.5 million Armenians. Which then led to the Greeks and Assyrians who suffered the same fate.

The movie wraps the historical Genocide with a love triangle between: Mikael Bogohsian (Oscar Issac), Ana Khesarian (Charlotte Le Bon) & Chris Myers (Christian Bale). The love story isn’t perfect, but I felt it was handled a lot better than other movies.

Despite the movie’s subject matter, it doesn’t resort to blood and gore, like The Passions of the Christ. The reason being, is the director Terry George, wanted to make a movie that could be shown in schools.

I recommend watching the movie, as it helps raise the awareness of this brutal act, on fellow human beings.

I’m curious about this one.

The NeoCons(NeoTrotskyites) have been cooperating with the Turks to turn the Mideast into chaos. Now the Hollywood types are portraying them as genocidal.

Prep for the big Gog-Magog switcheroo?

I hope you do check it out. This subject hits home, especially on April 24, which is the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

This could be totally ignorant on my part, and if so I apologize in advance, because I don’t know much about Turkish people or their culture, but those actors don’t look Turkish or having Turkish sounding names to me.

Maybe people shouldn’t put so much stock into IMDB ratings and watch a movie for themselves?

I actually have a few Turkish friends, and their appearances vary quite a bit.

Watched Interstellar again last night. Besides the scene with Brand talking bout how love binds the universe together, I consider this movie to be a masterpiece. The acting, the story, the characters, their chemistry, the effects, the amazing soundtrack etc. It just all comes together into one of the most ambitious movies I have seen in awhile.

Return of the Jedi: Remastered

Lord of the Rings: The Darth Rush Definitives

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - all the points

I’ve only seen around 350 films, but so far, to me, the entire graveyard sequence is the greatest piece of cinema ever. The incredible shots, amazing music, mathematical editing, great revelations…

Without spoilers, what are other scenes that could be objectively the best of all time?

Objectively? WELL. I don’t know. I love all kinds of things. I tried to put together a small top 200 movies ever a while ago so I think I’ve seen many, many more than that. Here’s my personal perfect movies with a few juicy good bits…

  1. Truck chase - Raiders of the Lost Ark
  2. One shot hallway - Hard Boiled
  3. Tech Noir - The Terminator
  4. One shot hallway - Goodfellas
  5. Hairy arm surprise - Suspiria
  6. Chum - Jaws
  7. Baptism - The Godfather
  8. The derelict ship - Alien
  9. The staircase shot - Psycho
  10. You gotta be fucking kidding - The Thing 1982

When I saw this poster art, I couldn’t help but be reminded of 1492: Conquest of Paradise. Both posters use somewhat similar colour schemes too.

IMDB Ratings for The Promise http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4776998/ratings?ref_=tt_ov_rt
10/10 - 53% of votes
1/10 - 44% of votes

There’s campaign to downvote the film going on and others trying to counteract it: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hollywood-is-losing-battle-online-trolls-992582

That is correct. They put those Turkish bots everywhere to downvote the film. They even had some groups buy out the entire Theater, then ask for a refund, to ensure the seats cannot be purchased again.

The Turkish government and lobbyists do this every year, when the Anniversary of the Genocide rolls around.

Turkey has released their own movie about World War 1, “The Ottoman Lieutenant”, starring Ben Kingsley.

After checking the poster, it’s true, they do have similar colours.
It’s possible “1492: Conquest of Paradise” poster’s use of colours denotes nautical themes.
However, the colours used on “The Promise” poster represent the Armenian flag.

Wow, sure that stops people from seeing the film but it certainly gives the box office a boost haha!

Not if they ask for a refund, so the movie doesn’t make the actual money, and doesn’t get reported to the Box Office.

What About Bob? (1991) – ★★★★ (of ☆☆☆☆)

This apparently isn’t on Blu-ray, though it’s in HD on Netflix (with an amazing video master). What a shame that it hasn’t been released yet.

I don’t think I’ve watched this since it was in theaters. Looking at Frank Oz’s resume, I’m surprised he’s only directed eight other movies since then.
