Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) – ★★★1/2 (Ebert scale)

Good movie. The comedy works well and it’s a fun ride. Sam Neil is good, along with the rest of the cast. Good performances all around. I actually never knew that he was a New Zealand guy until I read some after watching the film.

Movie of the year!

Yes, you could have lived it like I did in college. 😉

The Great Wall (2016) * (out of 5)

I went into it thinking it was going to be historical drama.

Premature (2014)

It’s about a high school student whose day keeps resetting whenever he prematurely ejaculates. As expected it was the best movie ever made, no question.

No joke, that’s the plot of the film. Like Groundhog Day meets American Pie.

I hope you’re kidding.

No, I’m not. I had not heard of this movie beyond there being some issue with “white Washing”. I never saw an add or poster. All I knew was the title.

Hero (2002)**** (out of 5)

Now this was more of the type of film I wanted and did not get with “The Grate Wall”.

Planned a big Star Wars marathon this weekend, only had time for two movies 😛

Rogue One
Fourth time seeing it (first at home), and I still love it.

Star Wars (Despecialized)
In its various versions, I’ve seen it more times than I could ever count. It’s still a perfect movie, of course.
EDIT: Well, not all the versions are perfect of course, but you get the idea.

Hero was ok. I liked House of Flying Daggers better, but the last act kind of fell apart.

I just watched Rogue One for the second time today. I liked it, but due to the fact that, unlike the other star wars movies, it’s not really character driven it didn’t really pop as much to me. I mean I enjoy it, but it’s much harder to watch and it doesn’t really entertain me as much as the other ones. But I can’t really fault it for that, it’s just a personal preference. Also CGI Tarkin didn’t look as good as I remembered it from theater. I loved TFA though, I don’t hate everything disney.

I’ve seen it. It’s actually . . . a lot less dumb than it sounds. Kinda of endearing.

A lot of it works, but the explanation we get when he’s in the black hole just doesn’t cut it for me. It felt a bit lazy. But up to that point, and after, it was really good.

Oh yeah, I legitimately enjoyed it. I’d actually give it a six or seven out of ten.

You rated it lower than I did, but you liked it more than I did.

Interstellar spoilers:

I was debating 6 or 7 really. I liked the modern twist on the Dust Bowl era and most of what else happens on Earth. But then I found their insistence on hitting up the big tidal wave planet to be an unrealistic decision. I enjoyed their interaction with relativity there, but there really needed to be a more compelling reason provided for them going to that planet.

But then I really enjoyed the twist provided by Damon’s character, and the father-daughter reunion at the end. I think the idea that McConaughey went back through space time to save his family was a great plot point that was sadly very poorly and lazily executed. “Future human generations created this five-dimensional space for you.” yeah, sure. So why didn’t they all die in Dust Bowl 2.0 the first time around then?
