TFA kind of threw that out by taking the stuff said in that scene literally, though, which might be my biggest complaint with it.

That’s how I’ve always seen it. And still do.
I think it has to do with Han thinking he can do it all by himself, and in turn, by the middle of the movie, he’ll know he can’t and that he needs a companion, somebody he just met, somebody who will stay with him until the end, Chewbacca.
I think his friends will give him that nickname, and he’ll keep it.

This is beyond asinine. Why would you take a beloved OT character and start ****ing him up for no reason. That’s exactly what got George in trouble on the prequels. Beyond stupid.
