STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread — Page 61

Twin suns is a often boring episode but which is saved by two beautiful sequences, the first being the best transition between the PT and the OT to date, at every level (wu xia pian to chambara, chosen one prophecy translated in its new era, Ewan’s Obi-Wan to Alec’s Ben); the second being the very predictable yet moving last shot of Ben watching over Luke from a distant spot. Almost dropped a tear filled with memories there.

This season has failed (too) many things, but at least it got this right. A wasted show with great potential nonetheless…

I think I agree with most, if not all, of you. Very nice.

Unbelievable tribute to Sir Alec Guinness’ Obi Wan. Impression was spot on, and even though the dialogue about wisdom/philosophy was a little over the top, I totally believed that was the same character from the '77 film.

Glad the fight didn’t last long. If they had Old Hermit Ben doing the flipping and kicking it would have been laughable. Fitting end to a long rivalry, despite the fact I didn’t care much about it to begin with.

Seeing both a Jedi and a Sith simultaneously believe they’d find redemption through Vader was awesome, and was yet another example of “things I hate about the PT that are mostly alright in this context”.

I don’t think it was a boring episode by any means, but I agree that it did a good job of transitioning the two trilogies.

I didn’t think they were talking about Vader.

I really liked Maul’s dying words. They made me realize that it wasn’t just the Jedi that have been wronged by Palpatine, Maul was a victim too. He was taken at a young age and forced into the dark side so that he didn’t know anything else. Palpatine stepped on everyone, he left many victims in his wake on both sides of the force. When Vader kills Palpatine he isn’t just doing it for Luke, he’s doing it for all the Jedi, Savage, Ventress and everyone else.

I thought the duel was very reminiscent of a Sergio Leone-style gunfight, a huge buildup of tension and then the actual fight is over in a flash. I liked it a lot, it’s really cool to see that kind of sensibility applied to lightsaber dueling.

Also, after scanning comments sections on a few different reviews, I’ve come to the conclusion that there is nothing more tedious in all of Star Wars fandom than discussion of the numbered lightsaber forms.

Likely it was kept intentionally ambiguous.

There’s nothing really ambiguous about it.

Maul: Oh, you have a purpose here. Perhaps you are…protecting something? No…protecting someone.
Maul: Tell me…is it the Chosen One?
Kenobi: He is.
Maul: He. Will. Avenge us

I think they both seem to be referring to Luke, though I think the ambiguity is whether they’re right or not (or in what way they’re right).

Hidalgo tweeted earlier something to the effect of “just because a character believes something, that doesn’t make it true”. His take seems to be that at this point, Obi-Wan, unable to foresee Vader’s redemption in ROTJ, thinks that Luke must be the Chosen One.

Also, I don’t really care. The chosen one is a dumb prequel thing anyway. As far as I care, Vader killed the Emperor and turned to good out of love for his son.

I still hate Ezra. Hope he dies soon. It would have been amazing to have the episode be only Maul and Ben Kenobi.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

I enjoyed the Obi-Wan bits, and while I kind of expected the last shot, I didn’t expect it to affect me as emotionally as it did.

The whole episode seemed to suffer from “for some reason”, just to get where they wanted to get to close Maul’s storyline.

SPOILERS

The Holocrons can now be used to summon Jedi. For some reason.

Ezra now knows the prophecy refers to Tatooine, which hasn’t been mentioned before. For some reason.

The Holocrons can now point directly to Jedi. For some reason.

Tusken Raiders attack Ezra’s A-Wing. For some reason.

Obi-Wan can sense Ezra baking in the sun. For some reason.

Maul patiently stands there and waits for Ezra to ride off before confronting the object of the hate that has kept him alive for decades. For some reason.

Ezra respects Obi-Wan’s unspoken wish to be left alone and not help the Rebellion when he’s constantly begging for more training. For some reason.

No one asks how Maul died, if Obi-Wan is still alive, what really happened out there. For some reason.

Yet another opportunity passes where Obi-Wan could introduce himself as “Ben” to give himself some excuse to say he hasn’t gone by the name of “Obi-Wan” for decades. For some reason.

I felt we needed a couple episode arc for this. But then other people will feel like they’d been strung along for two episodes to end like it did. Can’t please everyone.

Obi Wan clearly states that the Holicrons weren’t doing what you say they were, Maul was manipulating the to do that. He had been manipulating Ezra for one reason this entire time: find Kenobi.

Well, that was pretty boring. Seriously, am I too old for this, or not enough nerdy? I don’t think I truly enjoyed an episode of season 3, even though season 1 was OK and season 2 had a couple of interesting episodes.

Nah I agree: season 1 was fine and well balanced, with only 13 episodes and none truly bad. Season 2 and 3 are too long and have too many filler episodes. Even the Obi-Wan episode is parasitized by Ezra (I wish it had been a full Ben/Maul episode with no involvement of other characters, the continuity is damaged).

Ezra is the dollar store knockoff of Luke.

Nah, you’re not too old. I liked season 1, and loved the season 2 opener, but for me things went downhill from there. Too many cameos and contrived connections ruin it for me. All aboard on the fan service express…

I don’t get why Luke is made out to be really young when he is exactly the same age as that Princess from Alderaan that secured those Hammerhead ships two seasons back.
I rather liked the episode.
Ezra looks like Snoke his hair like that.
The final two episodes were fantastic stuff. Much better than the prequels or ROTJ 😛

They used Ezra’s character model in “Twin Suns”, they’re not portraying him as being younger than anyone.
