Logan - 9/10

Wow I cried a lot. What a great sendoff for Hugh Jackman. Bad guy was a little mustache-twirly.

Really want to see this, because I love The Wolverine and this is by the same director. Is it similar in tone?

Well, it’s sort of similar in tone, but much more mature and way less studio meddling.

La La Land - 9.8/10

It’s just as good the fifth time.

Get Out - 9/10

This movie isn’t super “scary” in the conventional sense, but it’s thrilling and interesting as hell.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984) – ★★1/2 [Ebert scale]

It’s kind of fun and interesting, but it’s really a waste considering how great it could have been. It’s very underwhelming and it kind of sucked the life out of me by the time I got to the end credits (probably the best scene in the film). It feels like it might have been under-budgeted in production, and an extensive piece of the budget would have needed to be centered on the post production visual effects, so that would explain the smaller aspects that should have been bigger or better lit.

My biggest gripe with the film is that they introduced an incredible cast of characters, but those characters are wasted by being severely underdeveloped. I went through the entire film being given exposition on Buckaroo’s character, but I never really meet Buckaroo’s character in the film. I’m given little things that could be used to create character development, but then the next scene starts without warning and I don’t know what’s going on.

It’s worth a watch, but it really could have been great if it was given a re-write, a higher budget, and maybe even a better director.

Oceans Twelve (2004) – ★★ [Ebert scale]

Petty meh. I like a lot of the cinematography, but Ocean’s Eleven definitely didn’t need this sequel, and it’s rather bland and even hard to follow at times. And the hologram egg is stupid.

EDIT: I will specify the rating scale being used from now on.

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

Do we have a “Last movie partially seen” thread?

Superbad (2007)

I lasted 20 minutes. 20 minutes of absolutely nothing but Jonah Hill dick, balls, and pussy jokes. No thanks.

Sausage Party (2016)

The Founder (2016) - This was a great movie. An interesting story about McDonalds. It’s worth watching.

Not to mention it uses one of the dumbest plot devices in the history of Hollywood, yet thinks itself so very clever for it.

Didn’t the title tell you all you needed to know?

Yeah, pretty much all of those movies with those guys in them are just terrible.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

I watched half this movie last night, and I don’t know whether or not I’ll finish. I could live with the hippie propaganda, but the weak characters and moronic writing make for a boring suck fest.

Get Out (2017) - A mystery/thriller that freaks you out. I got a Stepford Wives vibe while watching it. Everyone in the theater were quite vocal throughout the movie. It does have some funny scenes, to balance out the creepiness. It’s a great movie to check out.

Phantasm: Ravager (2016)

Coscarelli had two decades to work on this movie – two decades to make sense of the convoluted nonsense in the prior three sequels, tie up all the loose ends, and provide a satisfying conclusion to the series. Instead he produces this ugly, cheap-looking, go-nowhere “story” which only succeeds in wasting the talent of the actors and the time of the fans who watched it.

I suspected it was the case before I watched this movie, and now I’m adamant it’s the case: Phantasm should’ve been a stand-alone movie. It was a surreal, unsettling nightmare encapsulated on film; it didn’t need four directionless sequels to expand a story which wasn’t there.

I liked Phantasm II and IV respectively. Oblivion would have been a nice place to end it though, as it took us back to when it all started.

Moana (2016)

Family movie night last night and I was forced to watch this because I was the only one who hadn’t seen it. It was quite good.

Decided to give Cloverfield a chance after avoiding it for almost a decade.
It was just about as stupid as I expected.

Suicide Squad.

My dad is a huge DC fan and rented it on DVD. I don’t know why I sat through it. Also, did the Joker seem entirely irrelevant to the plot and only there because Harley was in it?

I’m listening to the We Hate Movies podcast on it right now. Well, not right now, but it’s in progress.

Not only was he irrelevant to the plot, but he was the worst thing in that movie, and it was full of bad things. He wasn’t remotely threatening, he was annoying. He wasn’t The Joker, he was a stoner with a cold.

Red Letter Media accurately described Suicide Squad as “Hot Topic: The Movie”.

Logan (2017)

Hard to fault. Villains weren’t amazing, though I did love how hammy Donald Pierce was. Best X-Men film no doubt.
