Carnosaur (1993)

This movie is the anti-Jurassic Park. Whereas Jurassic Park had innovative special effects, strong direction, great characters, damn good acting, and leaves the viewer in awe of the majesty of dinosaurs and nature herself, Carnosaur has effects which would’ve been laughable in the '70s, direction on auto pilot, paper-thin characters, tepid-to-poor acting, and leaves the viewer wanting to nuke the Earth just to cleanse the universe of the species which made this movie.

2/10

I’d hate to see what sort of cinematic abomination would make you give a movie 1/10.

If Jennifer Runyon hadn’t been in this movie, I would’ve given it 1/10.

Though if you are curious which movies I have thus far given 1/10:

  • Blood of Dracula’s Castle (1969)
  • Creepin’ (2001)
  • Dünyayi Kurtaran Adam’in Oglu AKA Son of the Man Who Saves the World AKA Turks in Space (2006)
  • Evil Dead (2013)
  • The Humanoid (1979)
  • Inseminoid (1981)
  • Mirrors (2008)
  • Night Train to Mundo Fine AKA Red Zone Cuba (1966)

Evil Dead did suck, but I think 1/10 is pushing it. I liked the effects and the camerawork at least. Also the set design was on point.

I couldn’t look past how bereft of fun, creativity, and meaning the reboot was to appreciate any of that.

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (2001) – ★★★1/2

I think it was lacking somewhat in comparison to the series that preceded it. The amazing music as present in the series was used much more sparsely here, most of the music present being pop/rock songs without the hyper-active jazz feel.

The plot seemed like it was trying too hard to be bigger and grander for a feature film presentation, but it felt very weird in the context of the series, though I’m glad it was all explained properly by the end of it.

The animation and cinematography was just as, if not more fantastic than in the series.

A great watch, over all.

You gave an anime a much higher rating than Toy Story 2.

I never actually rated Toy Story 2 IIRC. I’d probably give it ★★1/2 though. So yes, I am a monster.

THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.

Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

Great premise, great first 80 minutes or so, but really falls flat during the last act.

The last scene made no sense.

7/10

I completely agree. I have seen this movie many times and every time I convince myself the third act will be better after what is a really fun first two acts but it always just ends up making no sense and losing me.

You mentioned that it felt like three different movies crammed into one. Is this common in bigger-budget Christian movies that get a wide release? I’ve only ever seen one, but it felt like they combined three different scripts and had too many characters.

Finally got around to seeing Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. I went into it expecting something awful. I honestly came away having fairly enjoyed it. Sure, Lex Luthor was quite different from other iterations, the religious imagery a bit overused, Doomsday was kind of a stretch in his creation, and yes, the plot was even a bit muddled and hard to follow at times, but I still liked it. Only watched the theatrical edit. The Ultimate is rated ‘R’ and I seldom watch those. But I did read about the deleted scenes and wish they were included to better streamline the plot. Nevertheless, as it stands, I didn’t think it was nearly as bad as people, particularly professional critics, made it out to be. I expected crap, and instead got a decent flick. In my subjective eyes, it’s B.

I don’t watch many, but it seems like it would be a common thing to cram as many plots in as possible to pad out the runtime (War Room could/should have been about 1 hour, but was instead twice that).

I recently viewed a film called BabyFace. I won’t elaborate too much, but it had a storyline. And it made me laugh😝

7/10 Darth Solo biscuits.

And gentlemen there will be no fighting in the War Room.

Dude, Where’s My Car (2000)

Not high art by any means but inexplicably I enjoyed all the repetitive jokes and casual sexism. I also really liked the leads.

Yeah, that’s true. One of those funny stupid movies that still makes me laugh.

What is meant by “casual sexism” and why is it enjoyable?

It’s a religion devoted to casual sex.

I don’t remember it being sexist either, nor have I seen it since probably before Lucky Gungan was born.

I mean I’m sure it’s kind of sexist by nature of being juvenile, but that’s just an assumption on my part.
