Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread * — Page 32

S’OK, I’m more or less equally musically ignorant in a lot of respects.

I was actually thinking of Giacchino’s work with JJ Abrams on the Star Trek reboot movies, where the soundtracks had just “the main theme” and “the bad guys theme” repeated incessantly.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

He’s done lots of interesting scores the past decade or so, and music for the retooled Star Tours ride, so I think the soundtrack is in good hands.

Neat! Vader’s codpiece looks a little weird though. 😉

Should these be in the more spoiler thread…? I mean, I don’t even know what all the characters are called except the one mentioned in the trailer.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Nothing there that hasn’t been seen in the trailer already. 😃

The Figuarts figures are amazing. I’ve been keeping track of them for a long time now and I want all of them.

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

is ‘rogue one’ the death star itself?

It’s the origin for the military callsign “Rogue” for the team on the mission (Rebels).

We don’t get to hear of Rogue Squadron until the Empire Strikes Back (although it was adopted from the small group and became a full squadron).

There was also a “Renegade” Squadron but they are sadly never mentioned.

Rogue Squadron fought the AT-AT invasion in the snow speeders and Renegade Squadron helped the transports escape.

I am starting to think about tickets (no word on pre-sales yet?), and wondering if anyone has good information about any 70mm Film showings?

Probably a really dumb question, but do they even show digitally-shot movies on 70mm?

Star Wars is Surrealism, not Science Fiction (essay)
Original Trilogy Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
Beyond the OT Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
Amazon link to my novel; Dawn of the Karabu.

hm, well i guess i overly-quickly read the info about the filming, the camera used was indeed a digital camera, the Arri Alexa 65. I saw the mention of 70mm lenses and jumped to film in my head.

Well darn. I guess i will have to stick with the digital IMAX 3D, since i doubt there will be any other way to see this in large format.

The only point of having a 70mm showing would be to have the traditional wider 2.76:1 aspect ratio. If they wanted to do that though, they’d have to work out licensing with Weienstein Company who owns the necessary refurbished Cinerama projectors used for the Hateful 8 roadshow.

Yes, for some reason I too was for a long while under the impression that RO would be shot on film. However it seems that only the ST trilogy will be on film while the standalone ones will be shot digitally.
(Unless of course the future director of the third anthology movie prefers film.)

While most of VIII is film, Steve Yedlin, the DOP, confirmed there are parts shot digitally with the ARRI Alexa.

Also to this thread, they released the final trailer (which was a bit spoilery to my taste so one time was enough for me) but looked very nice, and the theatrical poster which isn’t very Star Wars-y compared to all previous posters:

That one TIE looks like a two-winged TIE Phantom.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

How is a poster filled by the Death Star and Darth Vader and covered in Stormtroopers and Tie Fighters not Star Wars-y?

I have my Director Krennic cosplay ready 😀

By the way Han shot first.

The more I see of Krennic the more he reminds me of JeJerrod in earlier and superior draughts of Revenge of the Jedi. I wish there was a way of making JeJerrod less weak in the final film.
