I think it became embarrassing once the prequels were done. From what I remember – although I admit that this may be entirely anecdotal – Star Wars was viewed as a bloated joke by the general populace. That changed during the buildup to TFA.

And definitely after TFA the bad taste of the prequels is nothing but a memory. If Episodes VIII and IX are on par (or hopefully better) than TFA Star Wars will be back to being the best saga in cinematic history instead of just the biggest one.

I certainly have been made fun of for being a star wars fan. Me and my friends growing up were always bullied for our love of the movies. It actually kind of irks me now, because I see the very people who made fun of us in school on their facebooks talking about how much they loved The Force Awakens and what huge Star Wars fans they are.

You should feel smug in the fact that you were right all along.

Its the people that think everything Star Wars is worth a huge amount that irritate me. Like when you pick up a book at a yardsale they want $30 for because its from the 70’s. Ugh.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

I once found a J. Geils Band album priced at $50. It’s insane how people overvalue their moldy old forgotten stuff.

Used to see people at swap meets ask high prices for SW toys that were missing parts or nearly wrecked. And this was before Ebay existed.

There was this book called What to save from the 80’s, published in 1986, in which the author predicted that Star Wars collectibles would never rise in value, since there were no new movies coming along. Comedy gold then and now.

Honestly, from my recent experience, it’s definitely the people who haven’t seen Star Wars who get made fun of.

I’ve actually heard someone say that if you didn’t watch Star Wars as a kid you probably got molested. Suffice to say I no longer associate myself with such a person.

One of my favorite things…

when you mention Star Wars to any middle aged woman the only thing they can think about is “Harrison Ford.” That is their entire film analysis: “Harrison Ford.”

Guess he was considered pretty hot stuff back then😉

Jar-Jar is the Emperor in the extra special edition of ROTJ (scenes 1, 3, and then 6 to the end).

I’ve had kids at my various stages of school get things wrong.

A friend of mine mentioned his dad had a huge vintage collection, which he stated was like from the “1950’s or whatever”.

Also, pretty sure I heard a kid call them the first color movies ever. But that was a LONG time ago, so don’t hold it against him.

Now, I’ve got the people in some film classes who say that midi-chlorians (I think that’s the first time I’ve ever actually said or typed that out…) were always an intended part of the mythos. Although he actually came around after I cited some sources…

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

I’d say the most I get made fun of is when my co-workers start talking abut my “Star Trek tattoo” (I have a Star Wars tattoo).
I like Star Trek though and it’s only playful fun so I couldn’t care less.

A Star Wars fan, admitting they’re wrong?
Now I know you’re full of it.

You have to be careful around here. Flamewars have started from much less. 😉

Well, he is technically right.

If you at least have a rudimentary base of knowledge about the subject you’re looking up then one should be able to discern fact from fiction. Wookiepedia has actually helped me in quite a few debates.

I waste too much time debating here, I can’t imagine doing it in real life too.

I honestly don’t even remember the last time I had any meaningful conversation about Star Wars in real life other than basic discussions about the movies themselves. I guess I’m not as avid a fan as most on here.

I think most of the people on this site don’t really fit in with the current Star Wars fanbase as a whole. A lot of them go into EU stuff and I can’t even have a discussion without prequel nonsense being brought up. It’s hard.
