I agree.Possibly a different kitten.
Or a prairie dog.

How about my daughter swooping in to catch a prairie dog? Will that work?

Ady, sorry to hear about the health issues and now the tooth! I hope you're feeling better sooner rather than later.

It would be nice to get this thread back to its old, more constructive nature. It's Ady's edit. Let him make the final call.

WHAT THEY HATED

- The Falcon exiting hyperspace near Yavin.- I don't get it, it's such a short shot, and it still looked good IMO.

The shot by itself is perfectly done, but it's because of the following shot that it doesn't work well. In a movie, when you follow a moving object from shot to shot, the object must always go in the same direction. But here, we have the falcon exiting hyperspace and going from the top to the bottom of the picture, and then in the next shot she goes from the bottom to the top! It puzzles the viewer: did the falcon just turned back?

It didn't puzzle me. And I doubt it would a majority.

Did Ady say if he will get this to someone to be seeded as a torrent or (the newest updated version he finished just yesterday) or is he waiting for the completed DVD?

Yes you are correct; however, we allready know where the falcon is headed to anyway so it makes little difference ( for us atleast ) which to way the ship is facing in this case. It's just a matter of prefference IMO. The original doesn't show them going in or out of hyperspace at all, or even show the hyperspace tunnel at that. I guess for the ones that have never seen starwars would get a bit confused. It's up to Ady if he wants to change that shot. I'm satisfied either way.

Who said i finished it yesterday? there's still a lot of work to do. but i won't be releasing another XVID. The revised edition will be for the DVD's only.

Oh no. Did i just sound like a certain GL when i said that the only the revised special edition will be available in high quality on DVD.

Since this is PAL-sourced, wouldn't it be the NTSC that features the pitch compromise?

Not only that, but the original version will *NOT* be available on DVD...

Ady, are you *POSITIVE* you aren't GL?!? j/k man... love your work, can't wait for the DVDs and (hopefully) the rest of the Saga

edit: ack, that's what I get for posting so early in the morning... I realize that was the point you were trying to make... sheesh, my bad

Think of how many times you've seen a car drive up to and over a camera (bottom to top) and then the shot switches to the reverse angle and the car drives over and away from the camera (top to bottom).

It works there and it works here as well. Because the Falcon is passing underneath the camera, that's where we expect it to emerge from. There's probably some fancy terminology to describe this certain type of screen direction but I'm too drunk to remember and too tired to look it up.

Bottom line: there's nothing wrong with the relationship between those two shots.

Let's start a petition to get the 'original' version on DVD also...... :-)

No.

PAL discs based on North American titles typically use the simplest method to realize 25 fps. It is why "PAL preference" arguments always imply a caveat.

It is my understanding that Star Wars was (digitally) sourced to North American standards, and that no attempt was made to preserve running times for other markets. Granted, I only have access to the NTSC discs at the moment, so if someone can correct me, please do.

I am also biased to assume the worst, because every PAL disc I have ever rented/purchased in Asia is WRONG. It's wrong, I tell you! Wrong!

I just sent you a PM about this.

EDIT: I didn't read the past posts because every time I come back there is a million, but then I did go back and read some, mainly Ady's stuff...the picture is locked, rendering my original post moot. No problem.

But I would like to now chime in and express that I feel replacing Ponda's arm with Dr. Evazan's is totally the right decision. That was kind of a minor niggle or mine, now it looks to be 100% fixed.

Actually this was one change I hadn't anticipated and thought it was really cool. the blue-shifted color with the mottled sky/wormhole through the windows. I was watching and all of a sudden said, "whoa! sweet!"

It's funny, I was skipping through the avi randomly, and I stumbled across this shot of Han and Leia in the cockpit, and I noticed they're kinda blue-ish. I skipped to another shot of the cockpit for comparison, and my first thought was "Oh no, Ady forgot to de-blue-ify this scene!" Then I watched the entire scene, realized it was wormhole glow, and was much relieved. I think it works great!

I am surprised so many people didn't love the added shot of the TIEs. Right now it's not only my favorite addition of Ady's, but one of my favorite moments in the film! I hope he kept the feel of the shot intact when he revised it for the DVDs.

I agree completely. I was impressed with all of Ady's alterations, but that was the one shot where I said, "Ho... ly... sheeee-it!" I got a sense of a genuine threat, I think it's a great shot.

OK, this is getting ridiculous.

Can someone confirm that the AVI that was TORRENTED is not corrupt? Did the original seeder hack the AVI header or something? I have installed the latest XviD codec and Adywan's file does NOT render properly. According the RIFF header, it was encoded with XviD 1.1

I play the avi perfectly. I tried Media Player Classic, VLC, MPlayer, Kaffeine. All work perfect. First try VLC if you haven't already.

Sorry, when you said you would be doing no more work to the edit, that made me think you were done. So it will be like a month for the DVD?
Thanks!

@Anti-Matter:
You say you have installed the latest Xvid codec but are you certain there isn't another decoder sitting on your system that's producing corrupted output? (For example, an old version of ffdshow). It looks like it's just you having this problem; you would get better help if you started a new thread in the technical help section.

Understood, but it's probably not necessary to open a new thread. I will eventually track the problem, but I simply needed confirmation that the second copy of Ady's file is ok. Presumably, someone (other than Adywan) downloaded the original RAR-packeted copy and then prepared a torrent for the unpacked AVI. I was not entirely convinced that people were distinguishing the two copies of the AVI, but Josuha_Blue has just indicated that it is OK.

Thanks
