I had to start ignoring these GOG sales because — just like Steam — I’ve amassed a huge library of games I’ll probably never have time to play. And I’ve purchased too many games on sale only to see them on sale again for still less before I’ve even had a chance to play them.

Realistically, when am I going to find the time to play through Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights (and their sequels)? Probably never, but that didn’t stop me from buying them anyway.

This. All of this, including the bit about those RPGs. I need to turn off notifications of sales for my Steam wishlist on my phone.

JEDIT: I have 212 games on Steam. 89 on GOG. Many of them I have not played, so I can’t justify buying more just because they’re on sale.

The Nintendo Switch is the fastest selling console in US history, outselling even the Wii. I find this very hard to believe, given people were in hysterics over the Wii, but it’s true.

outselling the Wii? This can’t be true.

The Nintendo Switch sold around 4.6 million consoles in its first few months, while the Wii sold only 4 million in that same timeframe.

By the way what consoles do you have Handman? I have a Xbox 360, PS2, N64, 2DS, PS4 and my PC

I’ve got all of the Nintendo consoles up to the Wii (lost interest afterwards), an Atari 2600, a PlayStation, a PS3 that’s mostly used as a Blu-ray player, and an Xbox 360 that I really ought to sell one of these days.

I bought my PS3 Slim because I needed a Bluray player after someone gave me a Bluray as a birthday present.

Switch is legit. It’s the only console I own.

I bought a PS3 because I either was going to have to return the movie or else actually start getting Blurays instead of DVDs. Bluray players weren’t quite on the cheap yet, and I bought my PS3 Slim secondhand from eBay so also not retail price.

JEDIT: That being said, I have an Atari 2600, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Switch, PS1, PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim, Dreamcast, and a PC. Only my Switch, Wii, PS3 and PC are currently hooked up.

I’m not sure that says as much about Switch as it does about you.

I forgot to mention, I have a Sega Genesis hooked up too, and that’s all you really ever need.

I currently have a PS4 Pro and a PS3 Slim hooked up, and a PS1 and an Atari 2600 in my closet.

I used to own a standard PS4 (sold it to my brother when I upgraded to the Pro), a fat 60GB PS3 whose disc drive gave out (which I gave to my brother after cannibalizing his YLOD’ed 80GB for its disc drive), and a PS2 which I shared with my brother and gave to him when I got the 60GB PS3. I also once owned a Nintendo GameCube exclusively so I could get the MGS1 remake, but I hated the remake so I sold the system after beating that and Rogue Squadron.

Other than that I’ve never owned a Nintendo or Sega console, though I played the shit out of Sonic 1 & 2 and a few other games on my uncle’s Genesis growing up, and I’ve never owned an Xbox of any kind.

+100%

I have a Japanese Mega Drive (model 1 first run) hooked up to a 32 inch CRT via HDRetrovision’s YPbPr miracle products. Outside of getting it region modded some time and possibly getting a nice Sony Trinitron to replace the flat glass screen I’ve got, that blast processing is definitely all I really ever need.

I also have a GameCube that stopped functioning, that’s currently waiting at a friend’s house for a different friend to take a crack at fixing it (since he fixed his own previously).

The rest of my consoles are actually my brother’s. Original XBOX, XBOX 360, PS3, PS4, Wii, extremely broken GameCube. I think that’s it.

I want Nintendo to make a direct stylistic sequel to the GameCube called the Game³. Like an upgraded GameCube with stronger hardware and modern capabilities, but still retaining the sleek design sensibility and perfect controller design.

Army of Darkness: The Medieval Deadit | The Terminator - Color Regrade | The Wrong Trousers - Audio Preservation
SONIC RACES THROUGH THE GREEN FIELDS.
THE SUN RACES THROUGH A BLUE SKY FILLED WITH WHITE CLOUDS.
THE WAYS OF HIS HEART ARE MUCH LIKE THE SUN. SONIC RUNS AND RESTS; THE SUN RISES AND SETS.
DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.

I think they called it the Wii U.

No. The Wii U is nothing like the GameCube. It’s a direct sequel to the Wii, hence the use of that name. Only it’s really a beast of its own even then.

No. The Wii U is nothing like the GameCube.

It sold terribly; had a great lineup of games, although not many due to limited third party support; had the ability to use a second screen as a controller, introducing unique gameplay that was ultimately underutilized; had neat cover art; and had the best controller for Smash Bros ever.

I think Handman was making a joke. Something like how the ³ suggests the third console generation following the GameCube itself.

Or that. But the N64 didn’t do well either.

The only video game consoles I ever owned were two N64s* and a SNES. Both N64s were lost to the pawn shop, the SNES just failed to turn on one day (I suspect the cats pissed on it when I had it stored away in my closet, ruining it).

*Owned separately, years apart.

Since you added this bit in later, the Wii is basically a GameCube with motion controls. There is really little difference hardware-wise. If the GameCube sold as well as the Wii did, they’d have definitely capitalized on the name.

But the N64 didn’t do well either.

The N64 was the beginning of Nintendo’s problems with third-parties, and holds the distinction of being the first console where they were no longer the undisputed king of the business. But even still, this was a world where Sega was doing even worse, and before the Xbox. The N64 did well at the time given its problems.
