Nice job! I’d be interested in seeing the (or close to) original colour grading applied to the new footage - just to see if the new scenes look more convincingly intergrated with the original 1976 Footage.

Check out Neverar’s Technicolor restoration of the ANH Blu-Ray. He rolled back some of the BR changes so it’s essentially the 2004 version now (no rocks in front of R2, for instance), but it contains all of the 1997/04 CGI changes with 1977 Technicolor grading applied.
I haven’t checked it out yet myself (waiting for V2 with the lightsaber effects replaced with the 1977 effects), but the screenshots look impressive.
Thanks!
I’m back at it, creating a color grade for the 4k77 scan, that will also be used for my bluray regrade. Here are the first few shots of the bluray regrade:

Much more pleasing to the eye than purple-faced people.
What bothered me most about the colour grading for modern STAR WARS home video releases, was how blue Greedo looked. I remembered him being green NOT blue.

Thanks! I’ve finished the next batch of frames, and brightened the color grading somewhat to improve shadow detail:
Out of curiosity, for your SE regrade will the output be LUTs to apply over the Bluray, or LUTs to apply to Neverar’s regrade of the Bluray?

I will use Neverar’s regrade, since he’s fixed so many issues with it, it’s now the best source available.

Honestly never considered that you’d use my version, despite the intention of it being a base for further edits.
I’m honored. 😃
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
I love that you two are (sort-of) working together.
I’ve updated the first set of regrades:
…and two shots at full resolution:
I’m working on the Vader/Antilles confrontation for the shot by shot regrade. I’m combining information from multiple sources, including the 4k77 scan, and the 1997 SE scan by poita. The 4k77 scan is rather blue shifted for large parts of the Tantive IV sequence. Here are two shots, that are close to being finished:
^ Looking really good, Dre, but could this scene use just the slightest bit of a brightness, or gamma increase?

The relative brightness is determined by the prints, so I believe this scene should be a a little darker.
Another update of the first set of the shot by shot color grading:
I’ve done a quick color correction of the first reel of poita’s 1997 SE scan, which also serves as a color reference next to the technicolor references for my regrade. Here are the Tantive IV shots and a few Tatooine shots as a bonus:
Here are the two sets of shot by shot regrades that have had a second pass:
stunning.

Are these also from the 97 SE?

No, these are regrades of the bluray using the 1977 technicolor prints and the 1997 SE prints as a reference, and NeverarGreat’s technicolor recreation as the main source in stead of the bluray itself.
Here’s a slight update of the color grading mostly in the first set:
Working on another shot for a change. Here’s a first pass:
Here’s a first pass of one of the shot in the Ben’s hut sequence:
Here’s another shot of the Death Star conference room sequence:
