If they had tried to pull it off as some big reveal a la ESB, I would’ve been rolling my eyes. They still managed to achieve this with Han’s death scene, though.

Actually, I went into the film already knowing that Harrison Ford wanted Han to have died in the OT given the character’s arc from a selfish scoundrel to a loyal hero was complete; and that he was unhappy with the “teddy bear picnic” in Jedi in lieu of a more bittersweet ending. So I could tell it was coming pretty early on in that scene.
I’m not saying that scene is obvious, I’m just saying it was in no way a shock.
chyron just put a big Ric pic in your sig and be done with it.
I’m sure everyone knew what was going down on that bridge.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
My question is, when Ren does take his helmet off during the interrogation, why does he lay it down in a pile of ash? And why is there a pedestal with a pile of ash there to begin with?

That’s probably where the stormtroopers hide and smoke their death sticks and can’t shoot anything.
It was an insert shot that was originally supposed to go in the “Vader prayer” scene. It’s meant to be Vader’s ashes, and they were meant to have been stored in Ren’s quarters along with Vader’s helmet, but then they decided to have Ren keep his helmet on for the “prayer” scene and for some reason Abrams thought the shot fit during the interrogation scene.
So as it stands now, Ren apparently interrogates prisoners next to Vader’s ashes.

What I meant was that I was rolling my eyes at how laughably predictable his death was. We’re in the same camp.
I finally watched this edit and just wanted to praise the good job done throughout.
There’s several cuts I wouldn’t have made but if this version had been what I saw in the cinema I wouldn’t have felt anything was lacking.
After reading the cut list a few months back I went in thinking the early “who talks first?” scene wasn’t going to work. I really love Poe’s line but, honestly, the way that you edited it plays perfectly and the quiet moment you’ve created actually enhances the scene. Ditto for the edit right at the end - I adore the scene with Luke and that was the only way the movie could possibly end but after seeing how well this works I’m changing my opinion.
Loved hologram Snoke and the other subtle effects tweaks you did. I liked how you handled the Rathtars too. The Kylo/Ben reveal worked out far better than I thought it would as well. There’s enough mystery for it to be a surprise but also enough information if you go back for it not to feel like a cheap trick.
I could go on, but suffice it to say that I thought it was a really impressive fan edit. Well done! I’m looking forward to your Rogue One edit even more now (if I ever figure out how to download it that is!!)

The guys over at BanthaFodder.fm just posted their podcast interview with me on their website. Episode 22 is a review of HttF, Episode 23 is a review of RotR, and Episode 24 is the interview. Check it out at http://banthafodder.fm/

Oye I finally watched your edit.
All in all, you did a fantastic job.
There were some good cuts and a good flow to it all.
The reduction of the Rathar scene was good since it didn’t drag on too long.
The “masked” interrogation worked well. I personally like the thinking behind it. Somewhat wonky, but hey, I like the idea better.
Good job about cutting away Chewy during the Ray and Leia hugging was good … such a silly mistake on JJ about that part.
Granted there are some cuts I miss … like the troopers walking away from Kylo’s frustration.
Not a huge fan of the holo-snoke, personally a bit distracting to me visually. Plus the idea of a more realistic take of the hologram from TFA shows some improvement on technology since the PT era and OT. Even without that point, it was a bit distracting to me.
“Because you are a PalpaWalker?”
Thanks for the feedback jarbear! I appreciate your support! 😃

PM sent! Cant wait to see this 😃
Could I have a link to the edit.
Can I have a PM for this edit?
The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.
I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.
ForceGhostRecon recommended that I check this out. May I have a link to this fan-edit? I was impressed by his TLJ edit way better than Ivan’s. Now, I’m curious about yours.
My version doesn’t have the call to the light force vision. Is that a mistake (if not ‘‘tis a shame because I was looking forward to it).
Yeah, I abandoned the idea based on feedback and skill limitations at the time.

I also didn’t see the storm trooper killing the guy that Cassian met in the alley. Was it also abandoned too? In your rise of the rebellion edit.
Yes. The entire scene was removed as to introduce Cassian when Jynn meets him for the first time. Too much planet hopping and ultimately it wasn’t needed. I also wanted Cassian to be more of a hero in the edit.

That is fine man, I will say I am enjoying what I’m seeing so far. I will give this a full watch. I love the changes that I’ve seen such as less glossy and more natural Grand Moff Tarkin. Also, Vaters eyes aren’t to read. I do realize that his eyes were red in certain lighting in the original trilogy, but in rogue one they overdid it. You made it look a bit more natural and amazing as a post to a very detailed cosplayer’s Halloween costume. PS, I also love the or heck of planet names when people go there and I love how Jyn is dreaming about her past.

Did anyone do a version of TFA that kept Kylo Rens helmet on during the Rey interaction scene?
StarkillerAG said:
DigMod did, in his “Heir to the Force” edit. It’s not very convincing, but it’s still an attempt.

Thanks StarkillAG, I didn’t know DigMod made that version. I think it needs to be rotoscoped to pull it off properly.
Yeah this was my first true edit that I had actually pushed to complete and get on IFDB. The side shots of Kylo during the interrogation, behind when talking to Snoke, and far shots when talking to Snoke were rotoscoped to retain his helmet. I had attempted to do the same with every scene during the interrogation, but the main issue was his hair. At the time I was very much learning how to mask and hadn’t yet dabbled in painting out things using image editors and then combining it with key framed masking. I’ve tried soliciting for community members who have a black series Kylo Ren helmet to finish the scene, but never received any bites. Maybe one day I can revisit the edit or someone with more skill can pull it off. There are a lot of things I’d go back and readdress in it. If you have any ideas or technique tips please let me know.

Hello, can I get the link to this edit?
Came here to say this is still my favorite cut of The Force Awakens. I’m so happy that fanedits exist because now I have versions of the sequel trilogy that I actually ENJOY rewatching. For me the best cuts of this trilogy are:
Heir to the Force - Digmodification
The Fallen Knight - Clark Zuckerberg
Duel of Fates - Joshuabri (the only version that removes Palpatine I’ve seen)
Watch these and the movies make damn sense and are actually GOOD.
Are there any Google Drive links aveilable
