right, right - when you do get those, it sounds awesome, but in general, unless you have an amp that'll matrix the source for you, then meh, and if the space isn't *that* big then 7.1 is overkill. and in a small bedroom, of course it makes no sense to have even a 5.1 setup. it's probably worth putting together a solid 2.0 by hunting for cheap, old ampsand some nice speakers off slickdeals though. could even go for 2.1 if you get an amp with a sub out, like a TCA Gizmo (hard to found nowadays) but if space is an issue, you could easily live without this.
