The Acolyte (live action series set in The High Republic era) - a general discussion thread
Time

This.

They bait people and then cry wolf when they get poor ratings.

After being pretty “meh” after seeing the trailers, i was surprised at how much i liked the first 2 episodes. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but to me it actually feels like Star Wars, unlike BOBF, Ahsoka and the latter part of Mando. The acting & dialogue is fine, which the trailers somehow made it seem prequel level bad, but it isn’t. And thank GOD we finally have colour back in Star Wars and not that horrendous desaturated & over dark grading that’s plagued the majority of the TV shows so far. The only thing that feels a bit off to me is the ending of both episodes. They don’t seem like an episode ending. It’s seeming to be aimed at editing into one long movie that has been chopped up into episodes more than an episodic formula.

Sadly, the dark side of the fandom is ripping it apart. The usual " Woke" bullshit comments are everywhere. Slating the show because of its female lead, the fact they mentioned " two mothers" and other crap. If it’s not white male lead they don’t class it as Star Wars. Wankers. I’m so fed up hearing how Star Wars is dead, just because it doesn’t follow their narrow minded bullshit. No one is allowed to just enjoy it any more without all their vitriol. I’ve seen so many commenting on how they refuse to watch it but will review bomb it wherever possible. Then attacking fans who dare to say they like anything “Disney” Star Wars.

This show has started out pretty well. It has my interest. I LOVE the score and i think that’s one of the reasons why it feels more like Star Wars to me. It feels very Willams to me. Although i don’t mind the different style scores in things like the Mandalorian, it seems to take away something for me. The Acolyte is probably the first TV show that i rewatched the first eps in the same day.

It doesn’t help that the creators and actors go out of their way to publicly say that they’re trying to make people mad on purpose

Smudger9's Bad Batch Movie Series [EP1 & EP2 RELEASED; EP3 WIP]
Time

The clone rebellion seemed more like an afterthought. Rex should have been involved in the finale, now it just seemed like they included him in the show to attract more TCW fans that maybe weren’t into it. Perhaps his episodes and the non bad batch episodes could be edited into a sort of coda for TCW instead.
As for Boba, I’d say he’s broken all his ties to his past at this point and so doesn’t need to be a part of her story.

Well the show showed promise but they teased too much and ultimately played it far too safe and predictable for my tastes.

I agree. It was set up for an amazing finale, but they just didn’t deliver.
We should have had a major clone rebellion, Rex and his crew should have been involved and at least one of the batch should have died. And Ventress should have tied into Omega’s future.

And I can’t believe alpha didn’t make an appearance!

Act 2 is where a lot of fat needs to be trimmed and I’ll work on that this week after the premiere. I desperately want to keep the Clone Wars flashbacks but they may have to go 😦

That’s probably the only thing I truly liked about the show, Hayden’s return as Anakin. Unfortunately it doesn’t really do anything to push the story forward so it should be cut.

When you think about it, not a lot has happened over the course of 7 episodes. It’s basically just “Star Wars: The Return of Thrawn”. Seeing Hayden as Anakin again was nice more satisfying than in Kenobi), and I really like the the actor who plays Ezra, but over all, the show has not covered a lot of ground.

Totally agree. Plot wise it fits a 3 act movie perfectly.
Act 1: Character introduction & getting the map to Seatos.
Act 2: Confrontation on Seatos & Journey to Peridea.
Act 3: Thrawn reveal & Finale

However, it’s been edited and structured in a way that makes it difficult to cut the fat.
Much work to do! Hopefully all will become clearer after the finale.

Perhaps they saw how popular that Kenobi fanedit was and decided to make this in such a way as to make an edit very difficult 😉

Wouldn’t surprise me. I also wonder if fan editing is one of the reasons we don’t seem to get deleted scenes anymore.

Do you think fanediting would have that much of an impact?
I would have thought it was Disney not wanting to show anything except their original product. For example there was a book written by J.W Rinzlet about the making of TFA, he did the other 6 films, but they subsequently cancelled it.
